About Jin Gege
Located at 699 Lewelling Blvd # 270 in San Leandro, CA, Jin Gege stands out as an "amazing authentic Chinese restaurant" within the local Chinese Restaurant category. Based on enthusiastic customer reviews, Jin Gege offers a compelling dining experience characterized by delicious food, a pleasant environment, and attentive service. This introduction aims to provide local users with a detailed overview of what Jin Gege has to offer, combining insights into its ambiance, services, and signature dishes.
The environment of Jin Gege has been positively described as "clean, roomy, new and bright." This suggests a comfortable and inviting space for diners, moving away from the often cramped or dimly lit settings sometimes associated with smaller eateries. The spaciousness likely contributes to a relaxed dining atmosphere, suitable for individuals, families, and groups. The "new and bright" aspects further imply a modern and well-maintained interior, enhancing the overall dining experience. These positive remarks about the ambiance suggest that Jin Gege provides a welcoming setting for enjoying a meal.
In terms of service, Jin Gege is praised for its "polite service." This indicates that customers can expect a courteous and attentive staff, contributing to a positive dining experience. Combined with the appealing environment, the friendly service likely makes Jin Gege a place where patrons feel comfortable and well-cared for. The review also mentions a "variety selection of authentic Chinese food," highlighting a key feature of the restaurant. This suggests that Jin Gege offers a broad menu that caters to different tastes and preferences within authentic Chinese cuisine, encouraging diners to explore a range of dishes.
One of the standout recommendations from a reviewer is the "mixed BBQ pot rice." This dish is so popular that the reviewer advises ordering it immediately upon sitting down, as it takes approximately 25 minutes to prepare and seems to be a favorite at nearly every table. The fact that the chicken in this dish tends to sell out quickly further underscores its popularity and the potential need to arrive early or order promptly to secure it. This "mixed BBQ pot rice" appears to be a signature item that local users should definitely consider trying, representing a potentially unique and highly sought-after offering at Jin Gege.
Another highlight mentioned in the reviews is the quality of the roast pork and BBQ pork. Both were described as "delicious," "tender," and "flavorful." The roast pork, in particular, was noted for having a "nice crispy skin," a characteristic often highly valued in Cantonese-style roasted meats. These items clearly left a strong positive impression on the reviewer, who stated they would "definitely be back for more of these." For local users who appreciate well-prepared and flavorful roasted meats, Jin Gege seems to be a promising destination.
While the roast pork and BBQ pork were clear favorites, another reviewer also tried the "clay pot rice," which they found to be "good" but noted that it "still missed the mark compared to Asia." This suggests that while the dish was enjoyable, it might not have fully met the expectations of someone familiar with authentic clay pot rice from the region. Similarly, the "pea sprout with garlic" was described as "delicious but the same as some other Chinese restaurants" the reviewer had visited. This indicates that while Jin Gege offers well-prepared versions of common dishes, some items might not be entirely unique to the establishment.
Looking ahead, one reviewer expressed their intention to try the "roast duck" on their next visit, suggesting that this is another item on the menu that has garnered interest and is likely a specialty worth exploring. This indicates that Jin Gege's menu extends beyond pork and rice dishes, offering other potentially authentic and delicious options.
Based on the overwhelmingly positive initial review, Jin Gege seems to be a hidden gem that might be underrated. The reviewer's surprise that it didn't receive higher than a four-star rating suggests that it offers an exceptional dining experience that exceeds expectations. Their enthusiastic recommendation to visit and their emphasis on the popularity of the mixed BBQ pot rice and the quality of the environment and service make a strong case for local users to try Jin Gege.

The clean, roomy, and bright environment, coupled with polite service and a diverse menu of authentic dishes, creates a welcoming atmosphere. I don't know why this amazing authentic Chinese restaurant didn't get beyond four stars?! Don't matter anyway cuz if you're late the chicken would be gone! And do send in your order of mixed BBQ pot rice once you sit down cuz it takes 25 min and every table is getting it. Clean, roomy, new and bright with polite service and variety selection of authentic Chinese food! This is the one you don't want to say no I haven't visited yet.
The roast pork and bbq pork were delicious. They were both tender and flavorful, and the roast pork had a nice crispy skin. These are the two items that stood out for our meal today that I'll definitely be back for more of these. Other items we tried are clay pot rice which was good but still missed the mark compared to Asia, and pea sprout with garlic was delicious but the same as some other Chinese restaurants that I've been too. Next time, planning to try their roast duck.
Pretty good bbq flavor, quite authentic love that they can chop in front of you.
Very flavorful but maybe a little bit salty for some people, meat is very tender and juicy, authentic Hongkong style food. Price is average considering everything go up now! Since it’s pretty new, so it’s pretty clean inside. This place will definitely one of my go to restaurants for Cantonese food.
I've been going here on and off since they first opened for both takout and dine in. The service has always been okay for the most part, but for the takout last night, the dish we ordered was raw. See picture. We ordered the duck, and you can see it was raw. There was a small pool of red on the bottom of the take out box too. Question: How can the bucher cut the duck and not see that it was still bleeding? It's definitely one star for the raw duck. Also, I don't think the pieces came from the same duck. Some of the duck had darker skin and some had a very noticeable lighter skin. The lighter skin duck parts were raw. Darker skin duck was okay.
