About Jiang Nan Bellevue

Located at 11111 NE 8th St #120 in Bellevue, Washington, Jiang Nan Bellevue aims to bring the authentic taste of Jiangnan cuisine to local diners. As a new entrant in the Chinese Restaurant category, Jiang Nan Bellevue has generated both excitement and constructive feedback from its initial patrons. The restaurant boasts a clean and nicely decorated interior, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for those looking to experience the flavors of the Jiangnan region of China.

The service at Jiang Nan Bellevue has been described as friendly and helpful, with staff members noted for their quick service. This positive aspect contributes to a welcoming environment for diners. The menu itself is reported to be exciting, featuring a wide array of dishes that entice customers to explore the diverse offerings of Jiangnan cuisine, with particular anticipation surrounding their Peking duck.

Among the dishes that have received high praise is the Spicy Pickled Pepper Bullfrog and Shrimp. This particular offering has been highlighted as delicious, fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavor, indicating a commitment to quality ingredients and careful preparation. Customers who have enjoyed this dish note that it is evident the kitchen puts care into each creation, suggesting that certain specialties at Jiang Nan Bellevue are already hitting the mark with diners seeking authentic regional flavors.

However, initial experiences have also brought to light areas where the restaurant may be undergoing some growing pains. One customer who tried the braised pork belly in black tea sauce found the pork belly to be tough, which contrasts with the expectation of a delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture for this dish. This suggests potential inconsistencies in the preparation of certain classic dishes.

Another dish that received critical feedback was the deep-fried dried chicken with dried pepper, where a customer noted an excessive amount of fried dough compared to the chicken. The suggestion was made that the dish might be improved by reducing or eliminating the fried dough, indicating a possible imbalance in the proportions of ingredients.

The fried rice was also a point of disappointment for one reviewer, who found it unappetizing in appearance and lacking the characteristic "wok hei," a smoky flavor imparted by a hot wok that is highly valued in many Chinese fried rice dishes. This suggests an area for potential improvement in the fundamental technique of preparing this staple dish.

Perhaps the most anticipated dish, the Peking duck, also received a mixed review. Instead of a traditional presentation of the whole duck, it was served pre-sliced on a plate. The skin's color did not align with expectations set by promotional images, and while the skin was somewhat crispy, the meat was reported to be a bit cold. Comparing it to a renowned Peking duck restaurant in Vancouver, the reviewer rated Jiang Nan's version significantly lower in terms of presentation, freshness, and crispiness, though noting the overall taste as "okay" but potentially not worth the price.

Furthermore, the operational flow of the restaurant was observed to be somewhat uneven, likely due to a new staff. Instances of staff forgetting to check on the table, requiring customers to flag them down for drink refills or plate changes for the Peking duck, suggest that service protocols are still being refined. The ordering process was also described as awkward, with a single tablet for the entire table leading to confusion, particularly when the assigned table number differed from the initial information.

Adding to the operational challenges, there were instances of the serving staff bringing dishes that the table had not ordered. While this could have resulted in complimentary items, it also indicates potential issues with order accuracy and communication within the service team.

Overall, while Jiang Nan Bellevue shows promise with its clean ambiance, friendly service, and the delicious Spicy Pickled Pepper Bullfrog and Shrimp, initial customer experiences indicate that there are areas that require further refinement. These include ensuring consistency in the preparation of dishes like the braised pork belly, adjusting the proportions in dishes like the deep-fried dried chicken, improving the quality and presentation of the fried rice and Peking duck, and streamlining the operational flow and ordering process.

For local users in Bellevue looking to explore Jiangnan cuisine, Jiang Nan Bellevue offers a new option with a pleasant environment and some standout dishes. While some aspects may still be evolving, the potential for a great dining experience is evident. It might be worthwhile to consider trying their highly recommended Spicy Pickled Pepper Bullfrog and Shrimp to get a taste of their strengths. As a new restaurant, Jiang Nan Bellevue may benefit from the patience and feedback of its early customers as it works to refine its offerings and service. I had a great meal at Jiangnan Restaurant. The place is clean, nicely decorated, and has a cozy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was quick. The food was delicious—especially the Spicy Pickled Pepper Bullfrog and Shrimp. Everything was fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavor. You can tell they put care into each dish. If you’re looking for tasty and authentic Jiangnan-style food, this is a great spot to try. I’d definitely go back and recommend it to others.

We were excited to try out this new restaurant, especially the Peking duck. Browsing through the menu was super exciting as there are so many dishes we want to try. Then reality struck. The pork belly in the braised pork belly in black tea sauce was tough. It's supposed to be a delicate dish that melts in your mouth. But this dish was chewy. There were more fried dough than chicken in the deep-fried dried chicken with dried pepper. I think they could do away with the fried dough. The fried rice was very disappointing too. It didn't look appetizing, and the taste lacked "wok hei" Finally the duck showed up. Instead of showing us the whole duck, it was already sliced and set on a plate. The skin color didn't look anything like the picture on the window. The skin was somewhat crispy, but the meat is a bit cold. We've tried Iden Quan Ju De in Vancouver. If that was a 10 in Iden, then Jiang Nan's would be around 5 at most. It lacks presentation, freshness, and crispiness. But the overall taste is okay, probably not worth the price tag. The operational flow of the restaurant is still not smooth as the staff is new. They would forget to check in on our table. We had to flag them down several times to refill our drinks or switch out the plates for wrapping the duck dish. The ordering process was completely awkward as there's only one tablet for the entire table to browse through the menu. The ordering was confusing as well as tlit asked us to enter the table number. Then we found out we were seated in a different table than what they had told us from the front desk. The serving staff brought us several dishes that we hadn't ordered. We told them we didn't order those, or we could have gotten extra dishes for free. Unfortunately it wasn't a great experience as we had high expectations for such a supposedly high caliber restaurant. Perhaps we would give it another chance in six months after they work out all the flaws in their process.

Came here on a Friday evening and had a reservation for two. It turned out not to be needed because it wasn’t busy at all. I was underwhelmed by the service considering it’s located in the Bravern. I joined a friend and wasn’t walked into the dining space, we ordered from an iPad at the table so recommendations were non existent, just felt like shines exterior with little substance. Food was okay, I ordered the crab meat and while good it was too rich and don’t think I’d order it again unless I had at least two others to share with. Lions head is quite tasty, it was seasoned well and the sauce is very good. The Peking duck was alright, had more meat on it than I expected but tasted fine. Would have liked to see more wrappers, because we ran out between two people, can’t imagine if there were more dining together. Don’t see myself being a regular here because of the price point based on location and less on the food itself.

Jiang Nan has some areas for improvement, like the passion fruit juice having too much ice, the Peking duck being inconveniently placed behind a tall fish dish, serving chopstick having a small chip at the end, and the lack of cocktail options, which was surprising. However, they do offer a selection of house wines, two types of red wine, and some shot drinks. The iPad call button for servers wasn’t very effective, and with such an extensive menu, navigating it on the iPad was a bit challenging. On the positive side, the ambiance was welcoming with its red-themed interior, the menu offered great variety, and the dishes provided good value. The well-made welcoming salad, with its slightly acidic taste, was a nice touch that helped with digestion.

It was one of the best Chinese food experiences in West Coast. The manager was absolutely brilliant. I have known Jiang Nan brand since I was in East Coast. So happy that there’s one more location in Seattle. Keep the good work!
