About Jian's Kitchen (品江南)
Jian's Kitchen (品江南), located at 5824 Forbes Ave Lower Level in Pittsburgh, PA, is a Chinese restaurant specializing in Southern Chinese cuisine that has garnered high praise from local diners. Many consider it to be among the best Chinese food options in Pittsburgh, with one enthusiastic customer reporting frequent visits and enjoying the family-style dining experience with friends.
Customers have consistently highlighted the kindness of the staff. However, it's noted that their service style leans towards a more Eastern approach, meaning they may not offer the constant attention expected in Western dining, but they ensure that all your needs are met. The restaurant itself is described as a small place, and one reviewer recommended making a reservation, even just an hour in advance.
The food at Jian's Kitchen (品江南) has been described as "delish," with generous portion sizes. One customer particularly enjoyed the Kung Pao Shrimp, noting its pleasant spiciness. Another diner was impressed by the whole fish dish ordered by their companion, which came with a glove for handling. A standout appetizer seems to be the crab rangoon, which has been called the best in the city by at least one reviewer. Overall, Jian's Kitchen (品江南) offers a delightful culinary experience with tasty food, kind service, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a place that customers eagerly anticipate revisiting.

This is some of the best Chinese food in Pittsburgh. Since I found this gem I probably stop in at least once a week and it’s always a feast. I love grabbing friends and eating family style. The staff is so kind. But be aware they are more eastern style in that they don’t wait on you hand and foot like expected in western dining, but you’ll get everything you need.
Honestly, I don't know how I ended up here but it was delish and the people were very nice. It's a small place and we made a reservation about an hour before showing up. I am a pretty routine kind of girl and I got the Kung Pao Shrimp and it was spicy! I don't believe in too spicy so I appreciated it. Every bite was delish. The portion size was large and could probably feed another me. I have no idea what my boyfriend ordered but he ordered an entire fish and it came with a glove, Their crab rangons might be the best that I've had in the city. I can't wait to check this place out again.
This was my first time having northeastern style Chinese food. I had the cumin lamb and the pork and cabbage dumplings. The lamb was tender with juicy fat, and dish had tasty spices and heat. The dumplings have a distinct cabbage taste, and you can add chili oil and soy sauce to your preference. The wait staff were attentive and will help you with the menu. I'll definitely be back
This place, although located in a obscure underground on the Murray District, offers a relatively authentic Chinese food experience. The food comes in a big proportion, and matches the “northeastern China” food experience deep in my memory. However, I would say that the servants could have been more enthusiastic… and I consider it a sin to not have Sesame oil & tomatoes in the miniature dumplings soup (疙瘩汤). Also the waitress forgot our rice until we asked for it. It’s not even during a busy hour!
