About Jade Garden
Jade Garden is a Chinese Restaurant located at 1139 5th St SW in Charlottesville, Virginia (zip code 22902), USA. While it operates within the category of Chinese Restaurants, offering Chinese cuisine to the local community, recent customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding service, online ordering practices, and billing transparency that potential patrons should carefully consider.
One customer expressed a highly negative experience, focusing on the demeanor of the staff member at the front of the restaurant. They described the "lady up front" as "RUDE" and strongly advised others to "Eat elsewhere," suggesting that the restaurant's attitude does not warrant patronage within the shopping center where it is located. This review also highlighted issues with online ordering, stating that the restaurant does not begin preparing online orders until the customer physically arrives to pick them up. Furthermore, this customer reported having to pay extra for condiments, even for rice, which is typically included with most Chinese takeout orders. This feedback points to potential issues with customer service, online order handling, and additional charges that may not be standard practice.
Another customer shared a concerning experience related to billing. This customer visited for lunch around 3:45 PM and was initially quoted a total of $10.70 for their order. However, upon requesting a receipt, the total shown was $9.56, a difference of $1.14. When the customer inquired about this discrepancy, they were told that the restaurant had not updated their system. The reviewer found this explanation to be "unethical" and stated that they would not return to Jade Garden, advising others to "be careful" as they suspected potential overcharging. This incident raises serious questions about the accuracy of pricing and billing practices at the restaurant.
Considering these two recent reviews, several critical issues emerge regarding Jade Garden. Firstly, there are significant concerns about the rudeness of at least one staff member, specifically the "lady up front," which can severely detract from the overall customer experience. Secondly, the restaurant's policy regarding online orders – not preparing them until the customer arrives – negates the convenience typically associated with online ordering and could lead to unexpected wait times. Thirdly, the practice of charging extra for condiments, even for basic items like those intended for rice, is unusual and could be perceived as nickel-and-diming customers. Lastly, and most seriously, there is a report of potential overcharging due to discrepancies between the quoted price and the receipt total, coupled with an unsatisfactory explanation from the staff. This raises concerns about the restaurant's ethical practices and the accuracy of their billing system.
The provided information does not offer any positive feedback regarding the food quality, environment, or other services at Jade Garden. The focus of the recent reviews is solely on negative aspects of service and business practices. Therefore, it is challenging to provide a balanced introduction based on the available information.
For local users in Charlottesville, VA, considering Jade Garden for their Chinese food needs, it is crucial to be aware of these reported issues. The negative feedback regarding rude service and potential overcharging should be taken seriously, as these can significantly impact the dining experience and trust in the establishment. The unusual policy for online orders also diminishes the convenience factor for those who prefer to order ahead for a quick pickup.
The practice of charging for condiments, especially for something as basic as rice accompaniments, is not standard in most Chinese restaurants and could be an unwelcome surprise for customers. This, combined with the billing discrepancy, suggests a need for caution and vigilance when ordering from Jade Garden.
Given the severity of the reported issues, particularly the potential for overcharging and the rudeness of staff, local users might want to consider alternative Chinese restaurants in the Charlottesville area that have more positive and reliable recent feedback. The lack of any positive comments in the provided reviews further underscores the need for caution.
The phone number for Jade Garden is (434) 979-3512 or +1 434-979-3512. While potential customers could use this number to inquire about the reported issues or their policies, the recent experiences suggest that the actual service and billing practices might not align with standard expectations. The address, 1139 5th St SW, Charlottesville, VA 22902, indicates its location for those who might still consider dining in, but the negative service reviews would still be a significant concern.
In conclusion, recent customer feedback for Jade Garden in Charlottesville, VA, highlights significant problems including rude service, inconvenient online ordering policies, unusual charges for condiments, and potential overcharging. Local users are strongly advised to consider these negative experiences when deciding whether to patronize this Chinese restaurant.

The lady up front is RUDE. Eat elsewhere they don’t deserve to be in this shopping center with their attitudes. Don’t order online they won’t cook it until you arrive. And you have to pay for condiments for you RICE
So I came for lunch around 3:45 and placed my order told 10.70. Then I asked for my receipt and it said 9.56. When I asked why the difference they stated they had not changed their system. Which seems unethical to me. Will not go back be careful they seems to be over charging.
Easy to sum up... Decent American Chinese fast food. I ordered a lunch special sesame chicken from a not so upfrontly nice or engaging staff member (see other reviews about rudeness) and added a drink and an egg roll. I think I paid 2 bucks to add the egg roll and drink. I was given a wait time of 10 mins so I left and came back. When I came back to pickup my order was ready. Jade has COVID-19 precautions in place as far as a plastic wall that blocks customers from staff. The wall goes from the floor to the ceiling. There is a notched slot to pass cash and cards and a small hatch to retrieve your food. I did not notice any staff wearing masks so the wall might only be to protect the staff from the customer. The staff member forgot my drink but had already pulled it out to hand over to me. When I mentioned it she cracked a smile and we had a laugh. Other reviews speak on Jade's customer service lacking but overall I was fine with it. The humor about the drink made things better. I carried my order back to work but on the way I couldn't help but smell the egg roll. I was starving and snatched it up...fried to perfection and very tasty. So tasty that I didn't get a picture of the golden browniss, sorry fam. As for the main entree the chicken was fried well, having crispness and a sauce that wasn't too sweet. The rice was bland and not what I was hoping for as a friend rice but in totality I could return and try something else... Definitely craving another egg roll right now SMH.
I have been coming here since I was a kid and have not found another Chinese spot that tastes as good as this. I don't live in the area anymore but I always get Jade Garden when I am here. The food is always so hot and fresh. The flavors have remained consistent throughout the years. I am not sure why the ratings are low because it is hands down the best Chinese food I have ever had. The fried chicken wings with pork fried rice and sesame chicken are my favorite. Hot oil on the side is a must. I wouldn't be so quick to judge a book by its cover with this one.
It tasted like it looked, absolutely disgusting. Also, not a single vegetable in sight. No thank you. Sorry, had to edit. My fortune cookie was stale too. Would give 0 stars if I could.
