About Jade Cafe
Located at 1688 Bryant Street in San Francisco, Jade Cafe offers a Chinese dining experience characterized by substantial portions and flavorful dishes. As a member of the Chinese Restaurant category, Jade Cafe has garnered attention from local diners seeking satisfying meals. While some aspects of the experience have received mixed feedback, the overall consensus points to a restaurant with generous servings and certain standout dishes that make it a noteworthy option, particularly for those in the vicinity.
Based on customer reviews, the environment of Jade Cafe presents a mixed picture. One reviewer noted that the restaurant was "packed with families enjoying their meals," which is generally considered a positive sign of a popular and well-regarded eatery. However, another reviewer mentioned that the restaurant "could use a bit of upkeep." Additionally, there was a comment about a homeless individual sometimes sleeping in front of the establishment, though the reviewer humorously advised not to let that deter potential customers, referring to the cafe as a "hidden Gem." These observations suggest that while Jade Cafe may not boast a particularly polished or modern interior, it is clearly a place where people come to enjoy the food, and its popularity with families indicates a welcoming atmosphere despite any potential aesthetic shortcomings.
The service at Jade Cafe appears to be generally well-received. One reviewer described the service as "solid" with "attentive staff" and noted "no complaints there." This positive feedback suggests that the service is efficient and that the staff are responsive to the needs of their customers. This aspect of the dining experience contributes positively to the overall impression of Jade Cafe, even if other areas might have room for improvement.
A notable feature of Jade Cafe is the generous portion sizes offered. One reviewer specifically mentioned that the plates are "hefty," indicating that diners can expect substantial servings, providing good value for their money. This is a significant draw for those looking for a filling and satisfying meal.
Among the dishes reviewed, the "crispy honey walnut prawns" stand out as a highly recommended item. One customer who had tried this dish at other places remarked that Jade Cafe provided the "biggest serving along with the biggest prawns I’ve ever had from a restaurant," emphatically stating it as a "Must try!" This strong endorsement suggests that the crispy honey walnut prawns are a signature dish at Jade Cafe, known for its generous quantity and quality of ingredients.
The "Mongolian Beef" is another dish that received positive feedback. While one reviewer noted that the beef itself was "ok," they also stated that "the over all flavor was spot on and the plate was hefty." This indicates that the Mongolian beef at Jade Cafe is flavorful and provides a substantial serving, making it a satisfying choice for those who enjoy this classic Chinese-American dish.
The "duck wonton noodle soup" received a more nuanced review. While the presentation and the flavor of the duck itself were praised as "on point" and "flavorful" respectively, the broth was described as "a little underwhelming," needing the addition of soy sauce and chili oil to "instantly" bring the flavors to life. The reviewer also noted that while the waitress said the soup came with vegetables, only two pieces of bok choy were observed, suggesting that the quantity of vegetables might be less than expected. Despite these points, the reviewer concluded that it was a "quick and decent wonton soup" when already in the area.

I stopped by this restaurant after attending a nearby Junkjournal event, looking for a quick bite before heading home. At first, I considered the spot next door (which was completely empty), but this place was packed with families enjoying their meals—always a good sign! I ordered the duck wonton noodle soup. The presentation was on point, and the duck itself was flavorful. However, the broth? A little underwhelming. Nothing that a couple of spoonfuls of soy sauce and chili oil couldn’t fix! Once added, the flavors instantly came to life. I asked if the soup came with vegetables, the waitress said yes, but I only saw two pieces of bok choy. When I ask for vegetables, I mean an array of vegetables. I should’ve been more specific? Service was solid—attentive staff, no complaints there. The restaurant itself, though, could use a bit of upkeep. Would I go out of my way to eat here? Probably not. But for a quick and decent wonton soup when you're already in the area? Sure! 🍜
Jade Cafe I pass this place all the time and wonder what it taste like. There’s usually a homeless guy sleeping in the front but don’t let that stop ya(lol). This place is a hidden Gem. The plates are hefty and flavors are awesomeness. -Crispy Honey walnut prawns: had this dish at other places many times and Jade Cafe gave the biggest serving along with the biggest prawns I’ve ever had from a restaurant. Must try! -Mongolian Beef: not too spicy, beef was ok but the over all flavor was spot on and the plate was hefty. Would definitely come to Jade cafe again.
The food was okay, I’ve had better but maybe don’t go here for delicious food. The price was reasonable too, and the food came quickly. It really felt Chinese restaurant and I felt back at home again 🥲. Toilets were okay and all gender bathroom. Only one toilet though. Either way, I might go again, but at the same time it isn’t the best option for good food. I only went there because I was hungry.
While waiting for our EV to charge at a nearby station, we decided to dine at this restaurant. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The service was lacking, and the staff came across as somewhat rude, possibly due to the fast-paced nature of the restaurant. The food was underwhelming—it didn’t seem as fresh as I had hoped, which affected the overall experience. The price we paid didn’t seem to be worth it in general. On a positive note, the portions were generous, but that alone didn’t make up for the quality. I genuinely wanted to enjoy our meal, but it fell short of expectations. Given that the restaurant has been around “since 1990”, I had higher hopes for authenticity and flavor. I really hope they can improve because the place has potential.
Food was great as well as the service and the environment of the restaurant. The portions are big and the price is very reasonable. We ordered the lunch special for two people and we got a lot of food!!!
