While this platform categorizes Ichiban as a Chinese restaurant, customer reviews indicate that it operates as a Japanese steakhouse specializing in hibachi and sushi. It's important for local users to be aware of this discrepancy.

Based on the limited reviews available, customer experiences at Ichiban appear to be quite negative. One reviewer states that the food is "certainly not authentic Japanese" and describes the sushi as potentially "imitation" and not fresh. This reviewer also found the restaurant to be "extremely expensive" compared to other sushi options in the area and strongly advises against dining there, citing a severe negative physical reaction and dissatisfaction with the lack of a refund.

Another review details a rushed hibachi dining experience, where the soup and salad were served quickly followed by a chef who performed the cooking show in a hurried manner. The reviewer found the noodles and filet mignon to be "undercooked and tasteless." The service was also criticized for being premature with to-go containers and dessert orders. Despite a manager acknowledging the issues and offering a small discount, the reviewer remained "very unsatisfied" with the meal and the overall customer service, suggesting a failure to adequately address problems.

Given the strong negative feedback regarding the authenticity of the Japanese cuisine (with one reviewer explicitly stating it is "Chinese run," though this is an unverified claim), the quality of the food, the service, and the value for money, local users are advised to consider these reviews carefully. There is no indication of a specific environment description or promotional information in the provided text. It is crucial to note the significant difference between the platform category (Chinese Restaurant) and the actual described cuisine (Japanese Steakhouse, Hibachi, and Sushi) based on the restaurant's name and customer experiences.

P The food is certainly not authentic Japanese and the sushi is maybe like imitation at best. It is not fresh. It is not actually that good at all in any way shape or form of quality and they are certainly not Japanese. It's Chinese run and it was extremely expensive by far the most expensive sushi restaurant in Ocean and Monmouth county. I highly would never recommend anyone going here. It is horrible. I threw up multiple times. I tried to get a refund and they didn't give me one and it was just not a good experience at all. I will never be returning here. They will never be getting my business.

I would like to start off by saying I have eaten there many times. Unfortunately today was the worst. As we sat down we were given a menu. We ordered Filet Minion hibachi dinner. The soup and salad came immediately. We didn’t get a chance to finish the soup and salad when the chef came and started cooking. He went through the whole “show” in such a rush it was like he had a train to catch. The noodles were undercooked and tasteless. The Filet Minion was tasteless. The meal itself was so rushed. The waitress brought to go containers while we were still eating and took our ice cream order while we were still in the middle of our meal. I spoke to a manager who was very nice and agreed with everything we said. He saw exactly what was happening and he apologized for the bad meal. We get our check and he did nothing to accommodate us. I said something to him and he said he told the waitress to give us a reduction. He came back with the 20% reduction. This was a terrible meal and I was a very unsatisfied customer. He said he would call the boss to see what could be done. After a few minutes he came back and told us that is all he could do. This is the reason why many small restaurants fail. They don’t own up to and fix their problems. Unfortunately Ichiban is a terrible value for your money and has terrible customer service.

We went here for our son’s birthday. I was alittle nervous about it being in a mall but the service was outstanding the chef was funny, outgoing, and great. The price we so affordable and they accommodated our group of 10 people instantly. I will definitely go again and highly recommend.

I was really looking forward to my meal, and everything started off well — but things took a turn when my main course arrived. I ordered the steak hibachi, and to my surprise, the plate was completely smothered in gravy, which is not how it’s normally served. The gravy was so excessive that it leaked into the rice, and honestly, it was a huge turn-off. When I brought it up, they claimed they added the gravy because some people complained the steak was dry — but that should be a special request, not something done automatically. I didn’t ask for extra gravy, and it definitely wasn’t what I expected. If they’re going to make changes like that, it would be nice to ask the customer first.

Our family has been loyal customers for many years. Usually pickup. They are very kind, meticulous and fast service. Unfortunately, we have noticed after covid, the prices have increased more than once, and portions are smaller. I suppose that’s understandable with inflation. We sometimes think about going elsewhere. It’s disappointing because we love it there and the food used to be much better years ago. Hopefully they go back to how it used to be but doesn’t seem it will
