As a Chinese food service operating within a grocery store platform in Springfield, Hy-Vee Chinese provides a selection of popular Chinese-American dishes. Our category includes items such as hibachi, cashew chicken, orange chicken, and pot stickers, offering a quick and accessible solution for those seeking a Chinese meal. Being situated within a larger retail environment, the service model is primarily focused on takeout, allowing customers to enjoy their food at home or elsewhere.

Recent customer reviews offer insights into the quality and service at Hy-Vee Chinese. One customer expressed a fondness for the hibachi, stating, "Love getting the hibachi, when i can get it." However, they also reported significant issues with the service, describing instances of being ignored and made to wait extended periods. According to this reviewer, a staff member, described as a "kid working there," often prioritizes cooking individual orders from scratch for other customers before attending to new requests, leading to waits of up to ten minutes just to begin an order. While acknowledging the hibachi's quality ("if you have all day to wait, it's good hibachi..."), the customer's experience highlights potential challenges with the speed and attentiveness of the service, particularly during busy times.

Another customer shared their experience as part of a "cashew chicken trail series of reviews," providing a more detailed assessment of specific dishes. They noted that the cashew chicken, while being "grocery store cashew chicken," was "still not the worst." This suggests a middle-of-the-road quality compared to dedicated Chinese restaurants. In contrast, they rated the orange chicken poorly, giving it "1 out of 5" and describing it as "soggy." The rice was characterized as "a weird in between of steamed and fried," indicating a potentially unconventional texture or preparation. The chicken breading was found to be "nice," but the chicken itself was "a touch dry," likely due to "sitting in the warming tray." The sauce was described as "really sweet," which the reviewer felt was not the ideal primary flavor. On a more positive note, they mentioned that "side options were plentiful," and the "pot stickers was a nice change to the usual options," suggesting some variety and potentially appealing alternatives on the menu.

These reviews collectively suggest that while Hy-Vee Chinese may offer some palatable options, such as the hibachi and possibly the cashew chicken, there can be inconsistencies in food quality, as seen with the soggy and overly sweet orange chicken and the slightly dry chicken. Service appears to be an area of concern for at least one customer, with reports of significant wait times and a lack of attentiveness. However, the availability of plentiful side options and the inclusion of items like pot stickers offer some variety beyond the standard Chinese takeout fare.

The environment of Hy-Vee Chinese is inherently that of a food counter within a grocery store. Customers can likely expect a functional space designed for order and pickup, rather than a traditional restaurant setting with dedicated seating and ambiance. The focus is on convenience and accessibility for shoppers. The cleanliness and general upkeep would likely align with the standards of the broader Hy-Vee store.

In terms of services, Hy-Vee Chinese primarily offers takeout. Customers place their orders at the counter and take the food to eat elsewhere. The first review suggests that made-to-order items, like the hibachi, are available, but there can be delays depending on the order volume and staffing. The second review implies that some items, like the orange chicken, may be pre-prepared and kept in warming trays. It is advisable to inquire about the preparation methods and potential wait times when placing an order. Delivery services are not mentioned and are less common for grocery store food counters, so it is unlikely that Hy-Vee Chinese offers this option.

Key features of Hy-Vee Chinese include its convenient location within a well-known grocery store, making it easily accessible for shoppers. The availability of hibachi is a notable offering, although service times may vary. The cashew chicken is described as decent for grocery store fare, and the presence of plentiful side options, including pot stickers, provides some menu variety. The "great lunch pricing" mentioned in one review (though for a different restaurant, it's a general aspect to consider for grocery store food counters) could potentially be a feature at Hy-Vee Chinese as well, offering affordable meal options.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the customer reviews. Grocery store food counters sometimes offer daily specials or bundled deals, so it would be prudent to check with the Hy-Vee store or the Chinese counter directly for any current promotions. These might include discounts on certain dishes or meal combinations.

In conclusion, Hy-Vee Chinese in Springfield, MO, offers a convenient option for Chinese takeout within the Hy-Vee grocery store on W Battlefield Rd. While some customers have enjoyed specific items like the hibachi and found the cashew chicken acceptable for grocery store quality, there are also reports of slow or inattentive service and inconsistencies in food quality, such as soggy orange chicken and potentially dry pre-prepared items. The availability of plentiful side options and items like pot stickers provides some menu variety. Customers seeking a quick Chinese meal while shopping may find Hy-Vee Chinese a viable option, but it is advisable to be prepared for potential wait times and to inquire about the freshness and preparation of specific dishes. For the most up-to-date information on their menu, services, and any current promotions, please contact the Hy-Vee store directly at (417) 689-7483.

Love getting the hibachi, when i can get it. Most of the time I just get ignored and told "hold on" by the kid working there who wants me to wait 10 minutes for him to cook the last person's order from scratch before he is able to grab the ingredients to start mine. But if you have all day to wait, it's good hibachi...

From my cashew chicken trail series of reviews. It’s grocery store cashew chicken, but it’s still not the worst. The cashew chicken was better than the soggy orange chicken (orange chicken get’s 1 out of 5 in case your curious). The rice was a weird in between of steamed and fried. Chicken breading was nice, but chicken was a touch dry, probably from sitting in the warming tray. Sauce was really sweet, which is not what I think the lead flavor should be. Side options were plentiful, and the pot stickers was a nice change to the usual options.

The habichi steak and shrimp were burnt, the veggies were not cooked at all, and to top it off, there was a sticker on the green pepper.

Food at Hy-Vee Chinese was awesome. They have some pretty good deals for kid's meals. Everyone there seemed friendly, but you never know how they truly feel. Anyways I would definitely bring my kids here to eat and shop. P.S. I really like the spicy orange chicken.
