About Hy-Vee Chinese

Hy-Vee Chinese is a Chinese restaurant located within the Hy-Vee grocery store at 1601 S Sycamore Ave in Sioux Falls, SD 57110, USA. They can be contacted at (605) 310-0765 or their mobile number, +1 605-310-0765. Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Hy-Vee Chinese appear to be somewhat inconsistent, with past positive experiences being contrasted by more recent concerns regarding service, portion sizes, and food freshness.

One long-time customer shared a mixed review, noting that they had generally enjoyed Hy-Vee Chinese in the past, citing good food quality and generous portions. They specifically mentioned a "$7 night" promotion, during which the food was typically fresh. However, their recent experiences over the last month to month and a half have been less positive. This customer highlighted a new staff member behind the counter at a different Hy-Vee location (49th and Louise) as lacking personality and being "very stingy" with food portions. While this comment pertains to a different location, it indicates a potential inconsistency in service and portioning across Hy-Vee Chinese outlets. More concerningly, the reviewer noted that the food at the Sycamore Avenue location had not been fresh on the last couple of visits. Typically, they would dine in at the "restaurant Fortune" (likely a seating area within or near the Hy-Vee), but due to recent surgery, they took the food home. They found the meal unappetizing, leading to most of it being discarded – a first in a long time for this customer. They expressed hope for improvement in the future, stating that even at the $7 deal price, it was no longer a good value given the recent decline in quality and portion size.

Another customer offered a brief but direct assessment, stating, "Not 5 star Chinese let's be honest." This concise feedback suggests that while Hy-Vee Chinese might be an acceptable option, it does not reach the level of a top-tier Chinese restaurant in terms of overall quality.

Considering these two reviews, it appears that while Hy-Vee Chinese may have had a reputation for good food and value in the past, there are emerging concerns regarding consistency. Issues with portion sizes (potentially at other locations but indicative of a broader trend), declining freshness of food, and an overall perception of not being a high-end Chinese dining experience are points that potential customers should consider.

As a Chinese food counter likely situated within a grocery store, the environment of Hy-Vee Chinese is probably functional and convenient for shoppers. It may offer a casual seating area for those who wish to eat their food on-site, as suggested by the mention of "restaurant Fortune." The primary focus is likely on providing quick and easy Chinese meals for takeout or immediate consumption while grocery shopping.

The services offered likely include ordering at a counter, with the option to take the food to go or eat it in a designated seating area. The mention of a "$7 night" suggests potential promotional pricing on certain days or dishes. The negative comment about a staff member being stingy with portions indicates that the serving process is handled by counter staff. Delivery service is not explicitly mentioned, so it is unclear whether Hy-Vee Chinese offers this option, either directly or through third-party platforms.

Features of Hy-Vee Chinese might have historically included good food quality and generous portions, particularly during their "$7 night" promotion. However, recent feedback suggests a potential decline in these areas. The convenience of being located within a Hy-Vee grocery store is undoubtedly a feature, allowing customers to combine grocery shopping with picking up a meal. The "$7 night" itself, when the food is fresh and portions are adequate, could be considered a feature attracting budget-conscious customers.

The provided information mentions a "$7 night" promotion, although details such as the day of the week or the specific dishes included are not provided. The recent negative feedback suggests that the value of this promotion may have decreased due to reduced portion sizes and a decline in food freshness. Local users interested in any current promotions or daily specials at Hy-Vee Chinese should contact them directly at (605) 310-0765 or +1 605-310-0765 or inquire at the counter when visiting the Hy-Vee store.

For local users in Sioux Falls, SD, considering Hy-Vee Chinese, it is important to weigh the historical positive experiences against the more recent concerns raised by customers. While the convenience of its location within a grocery store and potential value from promotions like "$7 night" might be appealing, the reported issues with inconsistent service (portion sizes) and declining food freshness are significant drawbacks. The general sentiment of not being a "5 star Chinese" establishment also sets expectations at a certain level.

If you have enjoyed Hy-Vee Chinese in the past, it might be worth trying again to see if the recent issues were isolated incidents. However, it would be prudent to inquire about the freshness of the food before ordering and to be mindful of potential inconsistencies in portion sizes. For those looking for a higher-end or more consistently reliable Chinese dining experience in Sioux Falls, exploring other dedicated Chinese restaurants might be a better option based on the provided feedback.

In conclusion, Hy-Vee Chinese at 1601 S Sycamore Ave in Sioux Falls, SD, has received mixed recent reviews. While it may have previously been known for good food and value, recent concerns regarding service (portion sizes) and food freshness have emerged. The convenience of its grocery store location and potential promotions like "$7 night" are factors to consider, but potential customers should be aware of the reported inconsistencies. For the most up-to-date information on their menu, specials, and current food quality, contacting them directly at (605) 310-0765 or +1 605-310-0765 is recommended.

Normally I really enjoy this place. The food is usually really good and you get a good helping. However, over the last month to month and a half the new gal that is behind the counter on 49th and Louise is without personality. And she is very stingy with the food. Even though it's on $7 night usually the food is fresh. Last couple of times it has not been. Usually we sit in the restaurant Fortune so that we can sit and talk. However, due to me having surgery this last time I took it home to eat. It just wasn't that appetizing. For the first time in a long time most of the food ended up in the garbage. I am hoping that in the future that things turn around because even for $7 deals it's not a deal.
