About Hy-Vee Chinese
Welcome to Hy-Vee Chinese, a Chinese food counter located within the Hy-Vee supermarket at 6655 Martway St, Mission, KS 66202, USA. Operating under the platform category of Chinese Restaurant, Hy-Vee Chinese provides a convenient option for individuals looking to purchase Chinese cuisine, primarily for takeout, while shopping or as a quick meal solution in Mission and the surrounding areas. Unlike a traditional standalone Chinese restaurant, Hy-Vee Chinese operates within a larger grocery store setting, which may influence its environment, service model, and menu offerings.
Based on the available customer reviews, Hy-Vee Chinese appears to focus primarily on takeout service. One reviewer mentioned taking their order to go, and the other described the unusual service of receiving dry chicken with condiment-sized packets of sweet & sour sauce, implying a takeout-oriented setup where customers are expected to self-sauce their meals. While the possibility of limited dine-in options (such as seating within the broader Hy-Vee food court area, if available) cannot be entirely ruled out without further information, the reviews strongly suggest that takeout is the primary mode of service. To confirm if any dine-in facilities are offered, or if delivery services are available (either directly or through third-party platforms), it is recommended to contact Hy-Vee Chinese directly at (913) 333-1788 or +1 913-333-1788.
The environment of Hy-Vee Chinese is likely integrated within the Hy-Vee supermarket. Customers can probably expect a counter or food station where the Chinese dishes are prepared and served. It is unlikely to have a dedicated restaurant ambiance with specific décor or extensive seating arrangements typically found in standalone Chinese restaurants. The focus is more on efficiency and convenience for shoppers. One reviewer's comment about it being "better to go to a real restaurant" might implicitly refer to a perceived difference in the overall dining experience and atmosphere compared to a traditional establishment.
The service model at Hy-Vee Chinese seems to be that of a quick-service counter. Customers place their orders, and the food is prepared or served for immediate takeout. One review highlights a peculiar service experience where the customer ordered sweet & sour chicken and received plain, dry chicken along with small packets of sweet & sour sauce. This suggests a deviation from the typical preparation of this dish, where the chicken is usually coated in the sauce. It also implies a self-service approach for saucing, which might be unexpected for some customers. The other review does not specifically comment on the service interaction itself, but rather on the quality of the food received.
The limited customer feedback provides some insight into the features and quality of the food offered at Hy-Vee Chinese. The first reviewer ordered sweet & sour chicken and found the experience unsatisfactory due to the dry chicken and the need to use small, room-temperature sauce packets. This suggests a potential issue with the preparation or presentation of this popular dish. The second reviewer ordered beef and broccoli and described it as "terrible," noting that the beef was "gummy and chewy" and the broccoli was "practically raw." This indicates significant concerns about the quality and proper cooking of this particular entree. The same reviewer also found the crab rangoon to be "dried out and hard as a rock," pointing to potential issues with freshness or cooking of this appetizer. Overall, the initial customer feedback raises serious concerns about the food quality at Hy-Vee Chinese, with descriptions like "dry," "gummy," "chewy," "raw," and "hard as a rock" painting a negative picture.
Regarding promotional information, the provided customer reviews do not mention any specific promotions, discounts, or special offers associated with Hy-Vee Chinese. It is possible that being part of a larger supermarket chain, any promotions might be integrated with overall Hy-Vee offers or advertised within the store. Local users interested in potential deals or specials at Hy-Vee Chinese should check the Hy-Vee store's advertisements, flyers, or website for any mentions of their Chinese food counter. Alternatively, they can inquire directly at the Hy-Vee Chinese counter or by calling the provided phone number.
In conclusion, Hy-Vee Chinese in Mission, KS, located within the Hy-Vee supermarket, offers Chinese cuisine primarily for takeout. The limited customer feedback available raises significant concerns about the food quality, with descriptions of sweet & sour chicken being served dry with packets of sauce, beef and broccoli being terrible with gummy beef and raw broccoli, and crab rangoon being dried out and hard. The service model appears to be a quick-service counter, and the environment is within the supermarket setting. For local users seeking Chinese takeout in Mission, the initial reviews suggest caution may be warranted regarding the food quality at this establishment. It might be advisable to consider other local Chinese restaurants with more positive and detailed feedback. To inquire about their current menu, hours, and any potential promotions, contacting Hy-Vee Chinese directly is recommended, but given the negative reviews, it would be prudent to manage expectations regarding the quality of the food.

Customer Reviews
It might be fine if they actually have what you want. But it's pretty strange to order sweet & sour chicken and the guy serves you dry chicken and points to a tub of condiment-size room temperature packets of sweet & sour sauce. Better to go to a real restaurant, I suppose.
Will not get chinese from here again. Beef and broccoli was terrible. Beef was gummy and chewy, broccoli was practically raw. Crab rangoon was dried out and hard as a rock.
