About Hy-Vee Chinese
Welcome to Hy-Vee Chinese, a Chinese food counter located within the Hy-Vee grocery store at 3505 Bottineau Boulevard in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Hy-Vee Chinese provides a convenient option for shoppers and local residents looking for a quick Chinese meal. Typically found within a larger supermarket setting, Hy-Vee Chinese likely offers a variety of popular Chinese-American dishes available for takeout and possibly for immediate consumption within a designated seating area in the store.
You can reach the Hy-Vee store at this Robbinsdale location, including the Chinese food counter, by phone at (612) 720-9078 or via their mobile number +1 612-720-9078. Using these contact details, you can inquire about the daily menu offerings, place orders for pickup, or ask about any specific dishes you might be interested in. As a counter within a grocery store, the service model is likely focused on quick service and convenience for customers already visiting the Hy-Vee for other shopping needs.
Customer feedback available online presents a mixed view of the food quality and consistency at Hy-Vee Chinese. One particularly critical review described a disappointing experience with the orange chicken and fried rice. The reviewer stated that what they received as fried rice was essentially "brown rice with a few peas in it," lacking the typical ingredients and flavor of fried rice. They also found the orange chicken breading to be "awful" and the sauce it was coated in to be equally poor, rating their overall experience a very low 1 out of 10. This customer concluded that they could have spent just a couple of dollars more at a traditional Chinese restaurant for a much better quality and hotter meal. This strongly negative review raises concerns about the quality and authenticity of some of the dishes offered at Hy-Vee Chinese.
In contrast, another reviewer offered a more positive, albeit qualified, opinion, stating that Hy-Vee Chinese offers "most authentic Chinese around." However, they included a specific warning against ordering the kung pao chicken after 6 pm, claiming that it is left out for too long. This suggests that while some dishes might be considered authentic and presumably of good quality when fresh, the food handling and holding practices might lead to a decline in quality later in the day for certain items. This piece of feedback indicates a potential issue with food freshness depending on the time of day and the specific dish ordered.
Based on these limited reviews, the menu at Hy-Vee Chinese likely includes popular Chinese-American dishes such as orange chicken and fried rice, as mentioned in the negative review, and kung pao chicken, as highlighted in the more positive but cautionary review. Given that it is located within a grocery store, the menu might be somewhat limited compared to a full-service Chinese restaurant but would likely include other familiar items like lo mein, chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and perhaps some vegetable-based dishes. The authenticity of the dishes appears to be a point of contention, with one reviewer finding it mostly authentic while another found their meal to be far from satisfactory.
The environment of Hy-Vee Chinese is that of a food counter within a busy grocery store. It is not a standalone restaurant with its own dedicated dining area, although the Hy-Vee store itself may have a general seating area where customers can eat food purchased from various in-store counters, including the Chinese section. The ambiance would be functional and focused on convenience rather than a specific dining atmosphere. Cleanliness would be expected to be in line with the overall standards of the Hy-Vee store.
In terms of services, Hy-Vee Chinese primarily offers takeout service, allowing customers to purchase their food and eat it elsewhere. Depending on the Hy-Vee store's layout, there might be limited seating available within the store for immediate consumption. The service is likely quick and transactional, catering to customers who are already shopping or looking for a fast meal solution. Delivery services are not mentioned and are less common for food counters within grocery stores, but it is possible Hy-Vee partners with third-party delivery services for some of its prepared foods. Inquiring with the store directly would clarify any delivery options.
Features of Hy-Vee Chinese are primarily its convenience and location within a well-known grocery store, making it easily accessible for many shoppers in the Robbinsdale area. The potential for "most authentic Chinese around," as mentioned by one reviewer, could be a feature if the quality and freshness are consistent. However, the negative review regarding the poor quality of the orange chicken and fried rice, as well as the caution about the kung pao chicken after a certain time, highlight significant potential drawbacks. The pricing might be perceived as a feature if it is indeed lower than that of a dedicated Chinese restaurant, as suggested by the negative reviewer's comment about a small price difference for potentially much better food elsewhere.
Promotional information is not provided in the limited reviews available. Grocery store food counters often have daily specials or meal deals that might include the Chinese food section. To find out about any current promotions at Hy-Vee Chinese, it would be best to check the Hy-Vee store's weekly ads, visit their website, or inquire at the Chinese food counter directly. They might offer discounts on certain combinations or family meal options.
In conclusion, Hy-Vee Chinese in Robbinsdale offers a convenient option for those looking for Chinese food while shopping at Hy-Vee or seeking a quick takeout meal. However, the limited customer reviews present a mixed picture regarding the food quality and consistency. One reviewer found some authenticity but cautioned against ordering a specific dish late in the day, while another had a very negative experience with standard dishes like orange chicken and fried rice. Potential customers should weigh the convenience of its location against the reported inconsistencies in food quality and freshness. To get the most up-to-date information on their menu and any promotions, and to assess the current quality of their offerings, it might be beneficial to visit the counter or call the provided phone number. Given the starkly contrasting reviews, expectations should be managed, and perhaps trying a small order initially could help gauge the current quality and suitability of Hy-Vee Chinese for individual preferences.

Customer Reviews
Got some orange chicken and fried rice. I think I just got some brown rice with a few peas in it. The orange chicken breading was awful, as was the sauce it got coated in 1/10. Terrible. I could have spent two more dollars and got hot food from an actual Chinese restaurant.
Most authentic Chinese around. Just don’t get the kung pao chicken after 6pm. They leave it out too long.
