About Hunan Restaurant

Hunan Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at 1101 N Jesse James Rd in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. For those looking to experience authentic Szechwan cuisine, they can be contacted at (816) 630-5588 or +1 816-630-5588. As a "Chinese Restaurant" specializing in the Szechwan style of cooking, Hunan Restaurant offers a distinct culinary experience compared to restaurants focusing on Cantonese or Mandarin dishes.

Based on recent customer reviews, Hunan Restaurant has garnered high praise for its food quality and service. One visitor who stopped for lunch in Excelsior Springs described it as "quite an unassuming diner but absolutely outstanding dishes!" This suggests that despite a possibly modest exterior, the culinary offerings are exceptional and memorable. The reviewer specifically mentioned ordering the Teriyaki Shrimp and Sweet-n-Sour Chicken, both of which were described as having "huge" portions and being "bursting with flavor!" This positive feedback led the customer to declare Hunan Restaurant as "hands down one of my favorite oriental restaurants I've come across," and they highly recommended it with a perfect 10/10 rating.

The same reviewer also commented on the service, noting that while the hostess was busy, they still felt like they received focused attention, contributing to a "wonderful experience." This indicates a high level of customer service and attentiveness, even during busy periods.

Another local customer proclaimed Hunan Restaurant as the "Best Chinese food in town." They highlighted the Szechwan style of cooking, advising those accustomed to Cantonese or Mandarin cuisine that the flavors might be a "little bit different." This points to a key feature of Hunan Restaurant: its specialization in the bold and often spicy flavors characteristic of Szechwan cuisine. The reviewer also praised the restaurant for being "quick" and having prices that are "in line with current economy," suggesting both efficiency and reasonable value.

This local patron mentioned that they typically order "to go only" and noted that errors in their orders are infrequent, occurring "only once in a while." This indicates a reliable and accurate takeout service, which is a significant convenience for local residents.

The reviews collectively paint a picture of Hunan Restaurant as a hidden gem in Excelsior Springs. While it might have an "unassuming diner" appearance, the food is consistently described as outstanding and flavorful, with generous portions. The specialization in Szechwan cuisine offers a unique taste experience for those familiar with other styles of Chinese cooking. The service is also highly regarded, with staff described as attentive and efficient.

The information available does not provide extensive details about the restaurant's environment beyond the "unassuming diner" description. It's possible that the focus is more on the quality of the food and service rather than elaborate decor. However, the positive experiences suggest a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere that complements the excellent food.

In terms of services, the reviews explicitly mention both dine-in (implied by the lunch visit) and takeout ("to go only"). Delivery service is not directly mentioned in the provided feedback. The quick service noted by one reviewer suggests efficiency for both dine-in and takeout customers.

A key feature of Hunan Restaurant is its focus on Szechwan cuisine, which is known for its liberal use of garlic, chili peppers, and the distinctive Sichuan peppercorn, which imparts a unique numbing sensation. This sets it apart from other Chinese restaurants that might offer a broader range of styles. The positive feedback from both a visitor and a local resident underscores the quality and appeal of their Szechwan dishes, such as the Teriyaki Shrimp and Sweet-n-Sour Chicken (though traditionally not Szechwan, their preparation at Hunan Restaurant is highly praised).

Promotional information or special offers are not mentioned in the available reviews. Local users would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any such promotions or loyalty programs.

For local users in Excelsior Springs, MO, seeking a Chinese restaurant that offers a flavorful and authentic experience, Hunan Restaurant comes highly recommended. Its specialization in Szechwan cuisine provides a unique alternative to more common Cantonese or Mandarin options. The consistently positive reviews regarding the outstanding food, generous portions, quick service, and attentive staff make it a top choice for both dine-in and takeout. If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant that offers more than just the standard fare and delivers a memorable culinary experience, Hunan Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

In conclusion, Hunan Restaurant in Excelsior Springs, MO, is a standout Chinese restaurant specializing in delicious Szechwan cuisine. In Excelsior Springs, MO and stopped here for lunch. Quite an unassuming diner but absolutely outstanding dishes! I got Teryaki Shrimp and she got Sweet-n-Sour Chicken. The portions were huge and bursting with flavor! Hands down one of my favorite oriental restaurants I've come across. The hostess was busy but I felt like she was focused all on us. A wonderful experience. 10/10 highly recommended!

Best Chinese food in town. It is Szechwan so if you are used to Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese, this is a little bit different. They are quick, price is in line with current economy. We typically order to go only and only once in a while is there an error.

We live an hour north west of here. Arrived w my family after attending a local escape room. We all ordered from the lunch menu. The food was fresh and yummy. Reasonable price. They had a sign posted that groups of 5+ will be charged 18% gratuity. We tip well regardless. I really enjoyed the spiciness of my meal as well as the tender meat. The fried rice was really good.

Got the sweet and sour chicken….most blandest sweet and sour chicken I’ve had in my life. Tastes like nothing. Rice was just as bland. Literally cried and ate at the same time.

The Crab Rangoon was bland, not bad but also not that good, chicken and vegetables was very good, chicken was tender and juicy, veggies were cooked great just a little crunch.
