About Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant

Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant is located at 7357 Lakeshore Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060, USA, serving the local community as a Chinese Restaurant with a focus on takeout services. They can be contacted at (440) 257-0030 or via their mobile number +1 440-257-0030 for placing orders or inquiries. Situated in Mentor, Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant aims to provide a convenient option for those seeking standard Chinese takeout fare.

Based on recent customer reviews, the general sentiment towards Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant suggests a somewhat mixed experience, particularly concerning the food quality and the ordering process. One reviewer described the food as "decent, nothing special," characterizing it as "pretty basic Chinese takeout which is good" for those seeking a simple and familiar option. They noted that while the food wasn't particularly great, it wasn't bad either. This suggests that Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant might be a suitable choice for those looking for standard, no-frills Chinese takeout.

However, this same reviewer also highlighted a significant challenge with the ordering process, mentioning that it "was difficult to order over the phone due to language barrier." This is a crucial piece of feedback for local users who prefer to place their orders by phone. Communication difficulties could lead to order inaccuracies, as was the case for this reviewer who wanted General Tso's chicken with lo mein on the side but received rice instead. Despite this issue, they did note that the food was ready on time and arrived warm, and that the portion sizes were "big," which they considered a positive aspect, especially for the price. Their overall conclusion was that the place is "good if you need a quick takeout for decent price."

Another recent review presented a more negative assessment of the food quality. This customer described their experience as "mediocre at best." They ordered the Szechuan chicken and a quart of wonton soup and found both to be "very bland with almost no taste." Furthermore, they criticized the fried rice, stating that it "isn't really fried rice," and were particularly disappointed by the excessive liquid in their main dish, commenting that it "could have been soup." This reviewer's first experience was so unsatisfactory that they stated they "will not be back." They also mentioned ordering a dinner portion with the intention of having leftovers, but the food was so disappointing after a few bites that they would not finish it, leading to a feeling of having wasted their money. This strongly negative feedback suggests that the flavor and preparation of some dishes may not meet the expectations of all customers.

Considering these two reviews, it appears that Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant offers a standard takeout menu with large portion sizes and decent pricing, which might appeal to those seeking value and convenience. However, there are potential drawbacks, including a possible language barrier when ordering by phone, which could lead to mistakes, and inconsistencies in food quality, with at least one customer finding the dishes to be bland and poorly prepared. The description of the food as "basic" by one reviewer and "mediocre" by another suggests that the culinary offerings might not be a standout in terms of flavor or preparation compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area.

The reviews do not provide any information about the environment of Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant, as both seem to be focused on takeout experiences. Therefore, local users will need to infer that the primary focus is on efficient order preparation and pickup rather than a dine-in ambiance. Similarly, there is no mention of any specific services beyond takeout, such as delivery options. It is also unclear if Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant has any unique features that distinguish it from other similar establishments in Mentor.

No promotional information was included in the provided text. Local users interested in deals, specials, or loyalty programs would need to inquire directly with the restaurant or check if they have any online presence, such as a website or social media page, where such information might be advertised.

In conclusion, Hunan Lake Chinese Restaurant in Mentor, Ohio, appears to be a basic Chinese takeout establishment that offers large portions at a decent price. However, potential customers should be aware of the reported challenges with phone ordering due to a language barrier and the possibility of inconsistent food quality, with some reviewers finding the dishes to be bland or poorly prepared. While it might serve as a convenient option for a quick and affordable takeout meal, those seeking more flavorful or higher-quality Chinese cuisine might want to consider other options in the area. Further investigation into recent reviews and perhaps a personal trial order could help local users make a more informed decision based on their individual preferences and priorities.

Food is decent, nothing special. Not bad but not particularly great. Pretty basic Chinese takeout which is good. Was difficult to order over the phone due to language barrier. Wanted general tsos with lo mein on the side but got rice not sure where the disconnect was. Food was ready on time and warm. Portion sizes big which is good. This place is good if you need a quick takeout for decent price.

Mediocre at best. I ordered the Schezwan chicken and a quart of won ton soup. Both were very bland with almost no taste. The fried rice isn't really fried rice and there was so much liquid in my meal it could have been soup. This was my first time coming here and I will not be back. I ordered the dinner portion to have leftovers later but this food was so disappointing after a few bites, I won't finish it. So I just spent $22 on something I won't eat. I would definitely recommend skipping this place if you're thinking about coming here.

What a pleasant surprise! I haven’t been to Hunan Lake for a very long time because it was just an average take out place. I was just there and wow! The service was very fast, and the food...a complete difference from what I remember. The fried rice had many ingredients which you can see! My daughter got the pork fried rice and she commented on how much pork there was throughout. I’m not sure if there are new owners, but I tell you what...it has completely changed! I’ve tried many of the local Chinese restaurants, and in my opinion, Hunan Lake is my favorite! No complaints what so ever. Try them out!

Wow. . read the whiny reviews of "it's inedible" and "it's bland", "the rice was hard", etc., etc. . .this is during The Covid Crisis. . .they said "15-20 minutes". .was quicker than that. . .no "mask required" sign on the door yet the employees were behind a wall of Plexi and wearing masks. . .only thing I didn't like was a single pen that everyone had to use to sign the credit card receipt. Food? While it wasn't overly flavorful, it wasn't too salty like most Chinese food. . .I got beef and broccoli and Won Ton and rice. . the rice was fine, could taste the beef and broccoli and it was a huge serving .add salt if you like. .not me. . .won ton was also good. . .all for $12. . .I'll have leftovers. . .shut up and eat! :-)

I live right next door to this place, and I enjoy it each time I go. Food is always fresh and not so salty like most Chinese-American cuisine. I also enjoy they put bean sprouts in their fried rice, compliments the dish splendidly. Entrance is takeout focus, with a clean entrance, clean counter and utensils/sauces were well stocked.
