About Hunan Garden***
Welcome to Hunan Garden, a Chinese Restaurant situated at 2726 Raeford Rd in Fayetteville, North Carolina. As a member of the local Chinese Restaurant category, Hunan Garden aims to provide a diverse menu of Chinese cuisine to the Fayetteville community. Based on the available customer reviews, Hunan Garden appears to offer a pleasant dine-in experience with well-received food and friendly service, although there is a notable concern regarding the packaging of delivery orders placed through third-party services.
One customer shared a highly positive experience, specifically mentioning the deliciousness of several dishes: the "Dragon & Phoenix," "Beef with black bean sauce," and "Mongolian pork." This indicates that Hunan Garden offers a variety of flavorful entrees that are enjoyed by its patrons. The reviewer also commended the in-house service, highlighting their server Nick, who was described as "quick to take our order" and attentive in "keep our drinks refilled." This suggests efficient and attentive table service for those dining at the restaurant.
Furthermore, this customer praised the owner of Hunan Garden for being "so pleasant, greeting you like a long lost friend." This personal touch from the owner can significantly enhance the dining atmosphere, making guests feel welcomed and valued. The reviewer also offered an insight into the restaurant's ambiance, noting that while "the place looks closed from the outside," the interior is surprisingly "cozy and comfortable." This suggests that despite a potentially unassuming exterior, Hunan Garden provides a warm and inviting space for its dine-in customers.
In contrast to this positive dine-in experience, another customer reported a significant issue with a delivery order placed through Grubhub. This reviewer specifically requested that the restaurant ensure the packaging was "securely closed and tamper proofed" due to the nature of delivery services. However, the image shared by the customer shows a food bag that appears to be completely open upon arrival. When the customer contacted Hunan Garden regarding this issue, they described the restaurant staff as "very argumentative," who reportedly stated that "it was hard to close the bag." Given that this was a "$60 order," the customer expressed considerable disappointment and advised others to "beware that if you get it through a delivery service, be prepared to receive it like so." This incident raises concerns about the restaurant's handling of delivery packaging and their responsiveness to customer complaints regarding delivery orders.
Considering these two contrasting reviews, the in-house experience at Hunan Garden seems to be quite positive, characterized by delicious food, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere fostered by a pleasant owner. The feature of a cozy and comfortable interior, despite a potentially less appealing exterior, suggests that Hunan Garden prioritizes the comfort of its dine-in guests. The quick service from the wait staff is also a notable positive aspect for those dining at the restaurant.
However, the experience for customers using delivery services like Grubhub appears to be less reliable, at least in the case reported. The issue with the open and potentially tampered packaging of a significant order, coupled with the argumentative response from the restaurant, is a serious concern for those who prefer to enjoy Hunan Garden's food from the convenience of their homes. This suggests a potential disparity in the quality control or handling of orders depending on whether they are for dine-in or delivery.
The services offered by Hunan Garden likely include both dine-in and takeout, as indicated by the two reviews. Their partnership with Grubhub also suggests that they provide delivery services through this third-party platform. The positive mention of a server implies that they have staff dedicated to attending to dine-in customers. The ability to prepare and serve dishes that are described as "Delish!" is a fundamental service that they seem to provide well for their in-house guests.
Features of Hunan Garden that can be gleaned from the reviews include a menu with well-received dishes such as Dragon & Phoenix, Beef with black bean sauce, and Mongolian pork. The presence of attentive wait staff, like the server Nick, is another positive feature for dine-in customers. The welcoming demeanor of the owner also contributes to a positive in-house experience. However, a potential negative feature is the apparent lack of secure packaging for delivery orders and a potentially unhelpful response to customer concerns regarding these issues.
Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any specials, discounts, or loyalty programs offered by Hunan Garden should consider contacting the restaurant directly at (910) 323-3778 or +1 910-323-3778. They may also have information about any promotions available through their delivery partners like Grubhub, although the negative packaging experience might make customers hesitant to use such services.
In conclusion, Hunan Garden in Fayetteville, NC, appears to be a Chinese Restaurant that offers a positive experience for those who choose to dine in. The food is described as delicious, the service is attentive, and the owner is welcoming, creating a cozy and comfortable atmosphere inside despite a potentially unassuming exterior. However, there is a significant concern regarding the packaging and handling of delivery orders placed through Grubhub, as reported by one customer who received a large order in an open bag and encountered an argumentative response from the restaurant. Local users considering Hunan Garden should weigh these factors based on their preferred way of enjoying their Chinese food. If dining in is an option, the experience seems to be quite favorable. However, those opting for delivery through third-party services should be aware of the reported packaging issues and consider taking precautions or confirming packaging security with the restaurant when placing their order.
For residents of Fayetteville, particularly those near Raeford Road, Hunan Garden offers a local option for Chinese cuisine. The positive review of the food and in-house service suggests that it could be a pleasant place to dine. However, the negative experience with a delivery order highlights the importance of clear communication and reliable packaging, especially when using third-party delivery platforms. Potential customers might want to inquire about the restaurant's packaging procedures if they plan to order for delivery.
Ultimately, Hunan Garden seems to be a tale of two experiences based on the available reviews. The dine-in aspect appears to be a strong point, while the delivery service, at least in one instance, fell significantly short of expectations. Local users may want to prioritize dining in to fully enjoy what Hunan Garden has to offer, or exercise caution and communicate their packaging concerns clearly if opting for delivery.

Ordered the Dragon & Phoenix, Beef with black bean sauce and Mongolian pork. Delish! Our server Nick was quick to take our order and made sure to keep our drinks refilled. And the owner is so pleasant, greeting you like a long lost friend. Yeah, the place looks closed from the outside, but inside it's cozy and comfortable.
I ordered from here through grub hub, and asked them to please make sure their packaging was securely closed and tamper proofed. This was how I received my food. When I called them back, they were very argumentative and said it was hard to close the bag. This here is completely open. Being a $60 order. I am not a comparative person, but I just want others to beware that if you get it through a delivery service, be prepared to receive it like so.
I mistakenly orderedonline from Hunan Garden - I thought it was a different restaurant 100 miles away. I called them, and they refunded my order with no hesitation. I really appreciate their great service!
I ordered this tonight and it looked like old grease that the chicken was fried in I saw chicken feathers on the chicken I tried to get a refund for it had to do a run around
Okay... I've been a customer of Hunan Gardens since it's been opened in 1984. In fact, my parents knew the original owners. Raeford Road was a mecca for 3 Chinese restaurants across from one another in those early days. China King, in the corner of Purdue and Raeford Road (which is now the present day Doslinger), David Chin's Golden Dragon (which is now Sammios on Raeford Rd.), and of course Hunan Gardens across the way in Higland Shopping Center. These were real authentic Chinese restaurants in Fayetteville. And they were all great places. Hunan Gardens has changed owners several times, but they kept the same traditional Szechuan and Cantonese dishes in their menus. I love how they make their Chicken Curry with right spice and heat it's supposed to be, their egg rolls are huge and fresh, you can never go wrong either choosing their Egg Foo Young or their Beef and Broccoli. Their combination meals for lunch are excellent for anyone on a budget, but they give you so much that for $9.50-$11.00, for their combo lunches you have enough leftover to eat for the next day. Okay...so then building looks a little disheveled, outside maybe needs some updating as well as the inside decor. But, this place is closest to the most authentic Chinese food that has not been too Americanized for an Americans palette. So, of you want to complain that their fried rice didn't taste right or their egg roll wasn't liked what you had from the another Chinese restaurant you always go to...just remember, this place has history. The chef here knows what he's doing because I've traveled a lot, and this place has been the closest one I've had real, authentic Chinese food. Liked I said earlier... Hunan Gardens might have changed owners, but they kept the same ingredients and cooking style from way back. Don't knock this place down...come in...sit down...enjoy the meal..and stop complaining. Oh, and if you do...tell the owners directly, they're present every time I come in. It's better you tell them in person so they can accommodate you rather than complaining about the dish you compare to a hawker stall you're used to buying " authentic" Chinese food. Stay classy!
