Customer reviews for Hunan East Restaurants present a somewhat mixed perspective. Some long-term customers mention ordering frequently and finding certain dishes, like the wings and fries (described as crispy and flavorful) and the Sesame Chicken (noted as good and including broccoli), to be satisfactory. Service is often described as fast.

However, more recent reviews express significant concerns about the food quality. One customer who tried the Chicken Chow Mein Combination Platter was "awfully disappointed" with the chow mein and the Mumbo sauce, which they described negatively. Another detailed a very negative experience with a $50 order that included chicken chow mein, shrimp egg foo young, sweet and sour pork, dumplings, and fries, stating that none of it was appetizing. They reported the chow mein lacked noodles and vegetables, consisting mainly of rice, chicken, and onions in gravy. The egg foo young and sweet and sour pork were described as bland and oily, and even the fries were hard and old. This reviewer was particularly disappointed with the dumplings, which they claimed had changed from authentic handmade ones to flavorless, frozen grocery store versions. Due to distance and weather, these dissatisfied customers did not return to correct their orders.

Overall, while some customers have found satisfactory options at Hunan East Restaurants, recent feedback suggests a potential decline in food quality across various dishes. Customers may want to consider these recent experiences when deciding to order from this establishment.

We order here often. The food is decent you just have to find what you like. The wings and fries were crispy and flavorful. The Sesame Chicken was good and I like that it came with broccoli. We decided to try the Chicken Chow Mein Combination Platter and was awfully disappointed. The chow mein is pictured on the far right of the photo. The Mumbo sauce just tasted like oiled jello with food coloring; not good at all. We didn’t return to correct the order due to distance and weather. Service here is always fast in our experience.

This past Friday will be my last time ordering from this place, unfortunately. The food quality has gone down within just the last six months or so. We ordered $50 worth of food (chicken chow mein, shrimp egg foo young, sweet and sour pork , dumplings and fries) and NONE OF IT was even close to appetizing. Literally. First, the chow mein was something they must have not had the ingredients for, and made up something randomly, and gave us some small, (EXTREMELY small), cut up strips of chicken, rice, and a TON of slivered onions, with some sort of gravy on top. That’s it. No noodles, no veggies, just rice, chicken and onions. The egg foo young was BLAND, zero seasoning, as well as the sweet and sour pork. It all tasted like vegetable oil, and that’s it. Even the dang on fries were hard and old! The biggest disappointment, believe it or not was the dumplings. This was my go to for authentic, handmade dumplings, which were ALWAYS the highlight of the meal. Not any longer. 😢 They now offer you six teeny, weeny, GROCERY STORE FROZEN “dumplings” which were flavorless as well, and arguably the worst I’ve ever tasted. Sorry this is so long, but this is my only recourse, being that most take out restaurants tend to reply to a complaint very defensively, argue with you, about THEIR mistake, and THEIR lack of quality food, and I just wasn’t in the mood for confrontation, and felt in my spirit that it’d go left that particular night, so we just let it ride. But I will say this, food LITERALLY costs TOO damn much these days, which leads to little room for error, but I digress. This restaurant is scratched off the list, for good, unfortunately. 😔

My daughter bought me food last night. The fried rice just looks like they added some carrots, mushrooms and nasty tasing baby corn that are full of water. The bean curd was chewy and no seasoning in it and not enough sauce. The taste was awful!!!

Disgusting! Drive to Lucky Star instead. Chow mein has chunks of gelatin and crunchy chicken cartilage. Shrimp chow mein also has stiff gelatin blobs. Wings are good. Egg rolls are undercooked, powdery, floury, but have good shrimp and mystery meat (pork? beef? dog?). Not the normal fried then soggy. They are underfried then soggy. We ordered on their website; took longer than door dash. They got the chow mein wrong, but quickly corrected the mistake and sent another.
