Hunan Cafe - King Street (Halal)

We went there because they offer halal food. Everything on the menu is halal. we liked their general Tso' chicken and crab Rangoon. Everything else was bad. The combo lo mein we ordered was old. The beef and shrimp in it was smelling and tasted bad. Could not eat this dish at all and left it on the table. We suspect the lo mein was at least a day old. The sweet and sour chicken tasted weird and the sauce was watery. We didn't even bother taking this home.Will not returning here again.such a waste of money and time.

After waiting and watching for this restaurant to open, my wife and I are glad that the anticipation was worth it. The friendly staff are more than happy to explain anything on the menu, as well as tell you about the history of the restaurant and owner. The menu isn't vast by design, which assures the customer the freshest ingredients in a fast prep time. The restaurant is not huge, but is very clean and well maintained. The restaurant is handicapped accessible and has high chairs available for those bringing children to dine in. With tip, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees totalled $52. This seemed reasonable for the amount of food we received. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients and the care taken to prepare the food. This restaurant will for sure be a neighborhood staple.

Hands down the BEST Chinese food I’ve ever had. I found this place during Ramadan and I’ve been obsessed ever since. The food is flavorful, fresh, and made with care—you can actually taste the quality in every bite. The meat is cooked perfectly—it’s not weird or overly squishy like a lot of other places where you’re not even sure what you’re eating. If you’ve had those mystery-texture experiences, you know exactly what I mean. This place uses real, high-quality ingredients and you can feel the difference. I’ve tried almost the whole menu at this point—beef lo mein, crispy beef, orange chicken (with real orange zest), and more. Everything has been fire. Even my picky family was raving about it, and my dad said he’s so glad we finally have a go-to Chinese spot. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality. The staff is incredibly kind and thoughtful, and they clearly care about what they serve. They even condensed the menu to keep everything fresh—major respect. Also, I never leave Google reviews. This is probably my second or third one ever—and if I’m being honest, the others were just for a free mochi donut or a discount on a wax. This is the first time I’ve felt strongly enough to write a review purely from the heart, no strings attached. That’s how good this place is. As much as I want to gatekeep this gem, they truly deserve all the love and business they can get. I just hope as they grow, the quality and heart they put into every dish stays exactly the same—because it’s that special. If you’re thinking about trying it, do it. You won’t regret it.

GOLD STAR STANDARD FOR CHINESE TAKEOUT!!!!! - Best Chinese Takeout ever had In an unassuming hole in the wall in an Alexandria plaza lies a Chinese takeout restaurant that tastes like a high quality Chinese restaurant. Usually Chinese takeout can be too greasy and salty, with mediocre quality ingredients. Everything we got served at Hunan Cafe was fresh and high quality and not at all too salty or oily! This mom and pop restaurant deserves all the customers, would highly recommend

Ordered delivery from this location. They use Doordash. They even sent me an image when they picked up. Ordered General Tso's Checken, an Arizona tea, and crab Rangoon. Delivery was okay but very expensive. Next time, dining in or getting take out. Update - ordered take out and it was great. One, it is cheaper. Two, you don't have to wait for a driver to pick it up and that means when you get the food home it is still fresh and warm. Three, staff was very friendly. Four, nice day to go outside. In the high 50s! Five out of five.
