This restaurant is very spacious and the servers were attentive. I liked the two dishes before service a lot. I got the crab roe tofu which was very delicious! It’s light and perfect in texture so I recommend. I like the string bean dish as well and would recommend it. However, the two fish dishes I tried left much to be desired. The peppercorn fish dish was just difficult to eat because there are just so many peppercorns floating around. It would be much better if they could strain it or add the spice in a mesh bag so that it doesn’t get in the way of eating. The fish head dish was better but not crazy amazing (would still recommend). Overall this was pretty good but I can see them being better with small improvements.

this place was a staple and a favorite when my wife and I started dating years ago. For a period of time, both the food and the service fell off. I’m glad to see it under new management and doing well. All the dishes we got were amazing again! The golden pig trotters and the smoked bamboo with tripe are a must get combination. The light smokey flavor of the latter will complement the rich decadence of the former. Both need to be eaten with rice and a beer for full enjoyment!

We used to go to Hunan Cafe often pre-covid but stopped when the quality dropped. We went again on a Friday night to see if it was better after the renovations. We were pleasantly surprised at the food, portions, service and spaciousness of the new design! Our girls loved the chicken rice noodle soup (incredibly flavorful broth), tripe with bamboo shoots, spicy pig trotter, and spicy cauliflower. Everything was delicious, not too salty and good sized portions so we had a lot doggy bagged. My husband dropped a chopstick and one of the staff quickly ran over to give him a new pair without asking. They also had ikea utensils for kids which was a nice touch. Glad their quality is back, and can’t wait to try other dishes.

I honestly don’t understand how this place is still in business. It’s probably just the busy location pulling in hungry people who don’t realize they’re about to get scammed. The food is mediocre at best and ridiculously overpriced. Look, I already expect to pay a premium when ordering fish at a restaurant, but $48 as the base price? That’s straight-up highway robbery. To make it worse, we got slapped with an extra $12 charge because the waiter recommended a "different type of fish," which wasn’t even mentioned on the menu. What I ended up with was basically a $15 supermarket fish drowned in hot oil. Charging $48 is already insane, but adding that extra $12 on top? Absolutely disgusting. Our small group of three ordered four dishes, and the total came to over $160 before tip. In Flushing—a hub for incredible Asian cuisine offering top quality at fair prices—mediocrity doesn’t last long in such a competitive market. The fact that this place was nearly empty on a Sunday evening should have been the first red flag. Save your money and your time. DO NOT COME HERE.
