About Hunan Bistro (Dallas)

Hunan Bistro (Dallas) is a Hunan Chinese restaurant located at 2220 Coit Rd Ste 420, Plano, TX 75075, USA. They can be contacted at (972) 599-9996 or +1 972-599-9996. Despite having 'Dallas' in its name, this restaurant is located in Plano.

A first-time visitor, based on a friend's recommendation, found the "family style stir-fried pork and eggplant" to be "delicious, perfectly match to my taste, and great with rice." While their friend enjoyed the fish, this reviewer personally "wouldn’t highly recommend it." Overall, they found the experience "excellent" with "good service" and "reasonable prices."

A returning customer, in an update on November 8, 2024, specifically craved the "Hot Tango Fish Filet" and returned with their mother right after lunch opening. They described it as "Delicious and perfectly balanced with a hint of spice," recommending it with "steamed white rice and some chrysanthemum tea." They noted having "more than enough to box up the remainder and take home for another two meals" and found the "Service was prompt and efficient," stating they "Will return here frequently."

Another reviewer, led by a Yelp suggestion for Pickled Fish Filets, visited with their mother and were the first lunch patrons. They were "greeted by Li and given a choice of where to sit." The ambiance is described as "traditional with beautiful elements as evidenced by the numerous Chinese Lanterns hanging in the intimate dining space." They found Li to be "very attentive, friendly, and cordial." They ordered Chrysanthemum Tea, Sautéed Asparagus Lettuce with Garlic, and the Hot Tango Fish Filet. The tea was "delicate and refreshing, with a mildly and subtly sweet flavor profile," with rock sugar provided. The food arrived quickly and looked "exactly like the pictures from the website." This reviewer found the "Presentation and Taste, Food Quality, and Service were right on point" with "Portions ideal and reasonably priced." They "enjoyed every bite" and had leftovers. They praised the "fragrant spices, savory, satisfying, mouth-watering, and pickled taste" of the fish, along with the "mildly tingling/numbing sensation" and "depth of flavor," which "truly exceeded my expectations." The rice was an "ideal accompaniment," and the sautéed asparagus lettuce had "just the right texture" with a "nice touch" of minced garlic. Importantly, this reviewer "wasn’t left with an uncomfortably full feeling" and noted no MSG symptoms. They concluded, "We will return to try other Menu Items."

Based on these reviews, Hunan Bistro (Dallas) in Plano, TX, offers a pleasant dining experience with delicious and flavorful Hunan cuisine at reasonable prices. The ambiance is traditional and intimate, with attentive and friendly service. Standout dishes include the family-style stir-fried pork and eggplant, and particularly the Hot Tango Fish Filet, which is highly recommended and comes in generous portions. The chrysanthemum tea is a nice beverage pairing. The restaurant appears to be a good choice for those seeking authentic Hunan flavors without the discomfort sometimes associated with MSG. Many customers express intentions to return frequently to try more of the menu.

My friend has been to this restaurant a few times and recommended it to me, so we came together today. The family style stir-fried pork and eggplant were both delicious, perfectly match to my taste, and great with rice. The fish was my friend’s favorite, but personally, I wouldn’t highly recommend it. Overall, the experience was excellent—the service was good, and the prices were reasonable.

UPDATE 11/8/24: Second visit here! Had a hankering for the Hot Tango Fish Filet, so Mom and I returned here this past Friday(11/8) - right after they opened for lunch. Delicious and perfectly balanced with a hint of spice. Pair it with steamed white rice and some chrysanthemum tea and that’s all you really need. We had more than enough to box up the remainder and take home for another two meals. Service was prompt and efficient. Will return here frequently. ———————————————————————— A Yelp! suggestion led us here after a hankering for Pickled Fish Filets. Mom and I were the first patrons after opening for Lunch. We were greeted by Li and given a choice of where to sit. The ambiance is traditional with beautiful elements as evidenced by the numerous Chinese Lanterns hanging in the intimate dining space. He gave us a few minutes to look at the Menu and was very attentive, friendly, and cordial. We ordered: 1.) Chrysanthemum Tea 2.) Sautéed Asparagus Lettuce with Garlic 3.)Hot Tango Fish Filet The Chrysanthemum Tea arrived first and can best be described as delicate and refreshing, with a mildly and subtly sweet flavor profile. Rock sugar was provided on the side to control and enhance the intensity. Our Food was out of the kitchen and delivered to our table within ten minutes. I was especially impressed to find that what we ordered was exactly like the pictures from the website. Presentation and Taste, Food Quality, and Service were right on point. Portions ideal and reasonably priced. Mom and I enjoyed every bite and had more than enough to box up the remainder and take home. The fragrant spices, savory, satisfying, mouth-watering, and pickled taste imparted by the garlic, red chilis, scallions, and delicately tender fish, followed by the mildly tingling/numbing sensation on the palate and depth of flavor truly exceeded my expectations. The rice was the ideal accompaniment and complemented the Hot Tango Fish Filet. The Sautéed Asparagus Lettuce had just the right texture. The minced garlic was a nice touch. It truly enhanced and gave it a contrast of flavor. Moreover, I wasn’t left with an uncomfortably full feeling like some other Chinese Restaurants. MSG doesn’t appear to have been used as I did not get a headache or migraine. This was my experience; yours may be different. We will return to try other Menu Items.

Very impressive menu of genuine Hunan and other Chinese cuisine including impressive dishes like burning bang bang pots and steamed shrimp/scallops. Great experience with an excellent menu allowing anyone to browse and order what looks great for them. Classical dish preparation and taste is excellent. Had the steamed spicy fish, cilantro spicy beef / offal, pork haucks, and a few other staples.

Pretty decent place for very spicy chinese food. If you like spicy then youll like it here. I thought I could put up with some heat since I like Sichuan food, but this place definitely takes up a notch. Super spicy and more on the salty side, but flavorful food. Large very open area type of restaurant.

October 2024 Human Bistro and next door Chen Garden served similar food. We haven’t been here for a long time. Previously, they were too spicy on their dishes even though we request light spice. Today the food is pretty good. Kung Pao Chicken usually is our go to dish for a Hunan style cooking. The fish and lamb soup is also our family favorite dish. The kitchen did a good job preparing our meals today. Sadly, the service is bear minimum. Taking order, bringing our orders and presenting our check. Other than that, the servers hide behind the counter. Frankly, I don’t think they will even review this comments. Come here if you like this style of cooking as for service… don’t come with high expectations.
