Based on customer reviews, the environment at Hsiang Yuen Restaurant is described as reminiscent of "NYC Chinatown vibe." While this description might evoke a sense of traditional, perhaps unmodernized, and bustling atmosphere, it's important to note that one reviewer found the overall experience "OK but not worth a drive." However, another reviewer who grew up with Korean Chinese food found the ambiance to be exactly as they remembered from the past, appreciating that the restaurant has maintained its traditional style without attempting to modernize. This suggests that the environment might appeal particularly to those familiar with and fond of a more classic, unpretentious Chinese restaurant setting. The focus appears to be more on the authenticity of the food rather than a contemporary or upscale decor.
The services offered at Hsiang Yuen Restaurant include both dine-in and takeout options, as indicated by customer reviews. One reviewer mentioned ordering "to go," and their food (Sweet & Sour pork and Fried Shrimp with hot garlic sauce) remained crunchy despite the transit. This suggests that the restaurant is capable of preparing takeout orders that maintain their quality. The initial confusion reported by a customer who arrived near closing time (9:05 PM with a 9:30 PM closing) indicates that it's advisable to check their operating hours to ensure a comfortable dining experience. The willingness of the staff to serve despite the late hour is a point to note, though it's always best to arrive with ample time to enjoy your meal.
A key feature of Hsiang Yuen Restaurant is its specialization in Korean-Chinese cuisine. For those familiar with this style, one reviewer noted that the food is "just like what you remember from back in the day," emphasizing the authenticity and lack of modernization in their approach. This focus on traditional flavors is a significant draw for those seeking a genuine taste of this culinary blend. The menu includes dishes like Noodles with Black Bean Sauce (Jajangmyeon), which received mixed reviews – liked by one but not considered "great," while the reviewer's family found it excellent. This highlights the subjective nature of taste and the importance of trying dishes to form your own opinion. Another notable dish mentioned was the Mongolian beef, which the reviewer typically avoids due to chewiness elsewhere but found to be tender and nicely flavored at Hsiang Yuen. The Sweet & Sour pork and the Fried Shrimp with hot garlic sauce were also praised for their crunchiness, even when ordered for takeout.
Another significant feature highlighted by a customer is the generous portion sizes. In a time when many restaurants are increasing prices and reducing portions, Hsiang Yuen Restaurant, despite price increases, has maintained good portion sizes. This is considered a major positive point by at least one reviewer, suggesting good value for money. This commitment to providing ample servings alongside quality food is a notable aspect of Hsiang Yuen Restaurant's offerings.

Customer Reviews
The family was in the mood for some Korean Chinese food and the place closer to my house was closed so we found this place. With good reviews we decided to try it. For those that grew up with Korean Chinese food, this place is just like what you remember from back in the day. They didn't try to modernize anything and just kept it as is, just like it's supposed to be. Everything was good and it tasted fresh. I usually don't order Mongolian beef as most times, the meat is very chewy, but it wasn't here. It was tender and flavored very nicely. We also ordered the Noodles with Black Bean Sauce Noodle aka Jajangmyeon. I liked it but it wasn't great. My family on the other hand thought that it was great. The Sweet & Sour pork and the Fried Shrimp with hot garlic sauce were crunchy despite us ordering to go. Their portion size was also good. I find most places charge more AND reduce the portion size but here, although the prices did increase, the portion size is still good. That's a big plus in my book. Overall, I would come back here again and would recommend it to others.
NYC Chinatown vibe. Food was OK but not worth a drive, not sure what Eater was smoking when they say it cannot be missed.
Craving for black bean noodle (jajangmyeon). This place has a very good rating and based on friend’s recommendation, we ordered jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork to go. Quick service, they kept the package opened until we arrived (to keep the food from getting soggy) and the taste…… super delicious. The go to place for black bean noodle.
A hole-in-the-wall comfort Chinese-Korean restaurant. There is no atmosphere to speak of.. but I do go out of my way to come here for Chachang-mein or Champoong. A staple I grew up with as a child. Don't expect any gourmet delicacy here. Just Korean Chinese comfort food - mostly noodles. If you are ok with that, I highly recommend the noodles here!
This is the spot to pick up a mean bowl of the jjajangmyeon (black bean noodle) for around $10. Thick sauce and best to mix it up with the noodles right away before the noodles bloat up. Plenty of pork pieces too! The meal Includes the traditional kimchi, sliced onion, and sauce packets as the condiments. Great price and the order is ready really quick. So delicious and plenty of food!
