About House of China

Welcome to House of China, a Chinese Restaurant located at 2001 S 10th St in McAllen, Texas. As a Chinese restaurant serving the McAllen area, House of China aims to provide affordable Chinese cuisine with a focus on customer service. Based on recent customer feedback, the experience at this location appears to have both positive and negative aspects that potential diners may want to consider.

While a direct phone number for House of China at this specific address is not provided in the information, it is likely that they can be reached by calling local directory assistance or searching online for contact details associated with this address. Having a phone number would allow customers to inquire about services such as takeout or potential dine-in options, as well as to ask about their menu.

The environment of House of China at this location has received mixed reviews. One customer described the building as "looking rundown" and noted issues with cleanliness, specifically mentioning dirty glass by the tables and dirty walls right next to the tables. This suggests that some patrons have found the upkeep of the dining area to be below expectations, which could impact the overall dining experience for those choosing to eat on-site. In contrast, another reviewer did not comment on the cleanliness, focusing more on the food and service aspects.

In terms of food quality, opinions seem to vary. One customer stated that the food was "not the best," but acknowledged that it was "above average for the price." This suggests that while the culinary offerings might not be exceptional, they are reasonable considering the cost. This reviewer specifically recommended the wings, expressing a strong liking for their sauce. This could be a signature item worth trying for those looking for a specific dish recommendation.

However, another customer had a significantly more negative experience with the food, stating that the restaurant was "not what I expected," especially in comparison to another House of China location in the same city. They noted a considerable difference in quality and variety, expressing disappointment with the food at this particular location and indicating that they would likely not return. This stark contrast in feedback suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation or menu offerings between different branches of the same restaurant name, if they are indeed related.

One consistent positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the service. One customer described the service as "very good," specifically mentioning that it caters to the Spanish-speaking audience, which they noted made sense given the location. This suggests that the staff is attentive and accommodating, particularly to a significant portion of the local community. Good service can significantly enhance the dining experience, even if the food is perceived as average.

Given the limited information about the menu, it is difficult to provide specific details about the range of dishes offered at House of China. However, as a Chinese restaurant, it would typically be expected to serve a variety of classic Chinese-American dishes such as fried rice, lo mein, various chicken, beef, and pork entrees, as well as appetizers like spring rolls or dumplings. The specific mention of wings with a well-liked sauce suggests that they might have some unique or specialty items that are popular among their clientele.

Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any information about promotional offers or special deals at House of China. Many restaurants offer lunch specials, combination meals, or discounts on certain days. To find out if House of China has any current promotions, it would be best to contact them directly, if a phone number can be obtained, or to inquire in person at their location. Checking local advertising or online platforms might also provide information on any special offers they may be running.

In conclusion, House of China at 2001 S 10th St in McAllen, TX, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While the service is noted to be very good, particularly for Spanish-speaking customers, and the wings with their special sauce are highly recommended, opinions on the food quality vary, with some finding it average for the price and others expressing significant disappointment, especially when compared to other establishments with a similar name. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the cleanliness and condition of the building. Potential customers may want to weigh these factors when considering dining at this location. If affordability and good service are priorities, and if you are interested in trying their highly recommended wings, House of China might be worth a visit. However, those particularly sensitive to cleanliness or seeking consistently high food quality might want to consider these aspects based on the recent feedback.

Not the best food, but above average for the price. Very good service (catering for the Spanish speaking audience, which makes sense for their location). Highly recommend the wings, I love their sauce!

This restaurant is not what I expected. I have been to the one just north of Nolana on 10th and its WAY better than this one (across from the mall in McAllen.) I don't understand how the quality and variety could be so different from the other restaurant. Even the building is looking rundown. The glass inside by the tables was dirty. The walls right next to the tables was dirty. I was not impressed with the food here and I probably wont be coming back.

Average local Chinese food. Nothing really outstanding. On a negative note the area by the front doors smelled horrible. Like. Ad plumbing.

I like to order the noodles, fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. It was so good.

My lunch ruined. I ordered sweet and sour chicken, I come back to work to eat it and there's no sweet and sour sauce. I also had asked for soy sauce and instead I get 10 packages of duck sauce. I called to complain and the manager offered me an egg roll for the inconvenience. I told her she should give me a new plate of The S&S chicken but she said she couldn't since it was just the sauce that was missing. Very disappointed, will not be returning ever. If I wanted dry nuggets with no sauce, I could have gone to McDonald's and probably would have at least received better customer service.
