As a Chinese Restaurant specializing in Hong Kong style dishes, House of Bowls is noted by patrons for serving mostly authentic flavors. The portions are described as really large, offering a home-style taste without being overly salty.

The restaurant's atmosphere is frequently mentioned as "old China stylish," creating a comfortable and "homie" feel for diners.

Based on customer reviews, some of the popular items include the Salt Pepper Fried Chicken, which is highly rated as "GREAT!", and the Deep Fried Chicken Wing with green onion, which one reviewer personally enjoyed.

While the majority of the food is considered authentic, some feedback suggests that the deep-fried tofu could be improved with a longer cooking time to achieve a more golden color. Additionally, one reviewer noted that the 乾炒牛河 (dry-fried beef noodles) lacked the characteristic "鍋氣味道" (wok hei) due to insufficient heat during the cooking process.

In summary, House of Bowls offers a wide selection of Hong Kong style dishes in a uniquely styled, welcoming environment. Known for generous portions and authentic flavors, it's a place where you can enjoy a taste of home-style Chinese cooking. Be sure to try the highly recommended Salt Pepper Fried Chicken and the flavorful Deep Fried Chicken Wing with green onion when you visit.

Most food are pretty authentic Hong Kong style dishes. With exception of deep fried tofu which is lack of golden color due to short cooking time. Also the乾炒牛河, they did not put enough heat before dumping the noodle into the Hot wok so there is lack of 鍋氣味道. I personally like that deep fry chicken wing with green onion.

We order bbq pork and shrimp fried rice, spicy shrimp crispy noodles and fried chicken. The noodles had a good kick to it. The fried rice was on the bland side and the fried chicken was OK. Service was FAST. We got within about 5 minutes but the fried chicken took 15-20. Portions were great and the price was fair. There are so many other restaurants to try in Houston so we’ll probably not be back.

Set your expectations down a little and think of this place as old school Cantonese restaurant and then you will be content 😄 This restaurant offers plenty of old school favorites like mince beef with raw egg over rice, salted fish and chicken fried rice, peapod leaves with garlic, beef stir fried with flat rice noodles and bean sprouts. The portions were generous, just wish they use a little less salt. The waiter and waitress were friendly enough for a Chinese restaurant 🤣

Expected a little more flavor from the dishes. They look great in the photos that everyone is taking on Google Maps, but just disappointing flavor. My meal was made better because I put Chin-Su on the dry noodles with beef. My spouse got the fried rice with BBQ pork and added duck. That was not bad. We also got the 6 egg rolls, not the greatest sauce to dip them in but serviceable. Will not return to try other items. Better places in Chinatown.
