About Hot Spot Nabe

Step into the world of Hot Spot Nabe, an exceptional Chinese restaurant located at 1395 S Diamond Bar Blvd, Diamond Bar, CA 91765, USA. Unlike typical Asian restaurants, Hot Spot Nabe presents a unique dining concept that blends the interactive experience of hot pot with the comforting flavors of home-style Chinese cooking. This gem, run by a welcoming and friendly couple, offers a refreshing departure from the ordinary, focusing on fresh, simple ingredients prepared without excessive oiliness or overpowering savory tastes often found elsewhere. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (909) 861-3295 or their mobile number +1 909-861-3295.

While the restaurant itself might be situated in a modest strip mall and boasts a cozy, intimate setting – as one reviewer noted, a group of nine could occupy the entire dining area – the culinary experience it offers is far from ordinary. Hot Spot Nabe prides itself on serving home-style dishes crafted with care and creativity. Customers consistently praise the quality of the food, especially considering the reasonable prices, which are particularly noteworthy given the high cost of living in the area and the generous portions served.

The menu at Hot Spot Nabe might be concise, but it is thoughtfully curated, and the chef's recommendations are highly encouraged. In fact, some of the most lauded dishes are not even listed on the regular menu, showcasing the chef's willingness to offer unique and seasonal specialties. The dining experience here is intentionally paced, with dishes arriving one by one, allowing diners to savor each creation at their leisure without the concern of subsequent dishes becoming cold – a testament to the personalized attention provided by this family-run establishment.

A delightful way to begin your culinary journey at Hot Spot Nabe is with their selection of appetizers. The handmade fried shrimp cake is a standout, praised for its fresh flavors and satisfying texture. The cold cut pig ears offer a more adventurous and traditional taste, while the free-range style chicken is another highly recommended starter. This chicken dish is poached to perfection, boasting a fresh taste and pleasing texture, and is served with a variety of dipping sauces to enhance its flavor profile.

It's worth noting that Hot Spot Nabe leans towards the spicier side of the flavor spectrum. If you prefer milder dishes, it is advisable to inform the chef, who will likely be accommodating. A particularly popular and comforting soup is the pepper pork belly chicken soup. This hearty and flavorful concoction features a good kick of pepper, a characteristic that aligns with the Asian belief that such a soup helps to warm the body. The soup's robust flavor and generous ingredients make it a must-try for those who enjoy a bit of spice and a deeply satisfying broth.

Another dish that receives high praise is the fried quail. Customers rave about its excellent preparation, noting its appealing glistening color and the fact that it is cooked to perfection without being dry. This exemplifies the chef's skill in handling different types of protein with precision.

The Salt and Pepper Shrimp at Hot Spot Nabe offers a unique twist on a classic. While it retains the good taste of the traditional dish, it reportedly incorporates both regular peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, adding a distinctive numbing sensation that sets it apart. This non-traditional approach showcases the restaurant's willingness to experiment with flavors while still delivering a delicious outcome.

For a more staple and comforting option, the Tofu and BBQ pork comes highly recommended, especially when paired with rice. This dish evokes memories of quick yet hearty meals, making it a satisfying choice for those seeking familiar and comforting flavors. It’s a testament to the restaurant’s ability to cater to both adventurous palates and those seeking classic Chinese comfort food.

The seafood casserole presents another intriguing option. Served in a large bowl with a variety of vegetables and a flavorful broth, it has a hearty, casserole-like consistency, offering a substantial and nourishing meal. This dish highlights the restaurant's versatility in creating diverse and satisfying main courses.

When it comes to dessert, Hot Spot Nabe offers a departure from the usual mango pudding often found in Chinese restaurants. Instead, they feature unique and traditional sweet treats such as purple glutinous rice with coconut milk and peach gum with coconut milk. According to one reviewer, the purple glutinous rice with coconut milk was particularly enjoyable, providing a delightful and authentic way to conclude the meal.

The mention of a "nice set menu" further suggests that Hot Spot Nabe offers thoughtfully curated meal options that provide a comprehensive taste of their culinary offerings. The repeated praise for the freshness and deliciousness of their chicken underscores the restaurant's commitment to using high-quality ingredients. One reviewer expressed anticipation for trying the hot pot on a future visit, indicating that this aspect of their menu is also a significant draw.

In conclusion, Hot Spot Nabe in Diamond Bar offers a unique and memorable dining experience that goes beyond the typical Chinese restaurant. With its blend of interactive hot pot and flavorful home-style dishes, prepared with fresh ingredients and a personal touch by a friendly couple, it stands out as a true hidden gem. Whether you're looking for comforting classics or more adventurous flavors, Hot Spot Nabe is sure to impress with its quality food, reasonable prices, and warm atmosphere. Nice gem hidden away in a small strip mall. Restaurant is not your typical Asian restaurant, but more of a hybrid hot pot style with special home style dishes run by a nice friendly couple. Restaurant is not that big and our group of 9 took up the entire dining area. Their food is home style cooking with simple creative ingredients without the excessive oil or savory taste found in a typical restaurant. Prices are cheap considering the high cost of living and the amount of food you get. The menu options are minimal, but so we went with the Chef’s recommendations (some were not on the menu) for most of our selection and the Chef did not disappoint. Unlike a typical big restaurant with multiple Chef’s, the dish came out one by one allowing you to enjoy dishes slowly without the next one getting cold. We started off with a few apetizers to include a hand made fried shrimp cake, cold cut pig ears, and their free range style chicken that came with some dipping sauces. Chicken was poached just right with good fresh taste and texture. Restaurant is more towards the spicy side so if spice it not your thing, inform the Chef. The pepper pork belly chicken soup is hearty and flavorful with a good dash of pepper (Asians believe this type of soup keeps the body warm). Their fried quail was excellent with good glistening color and not too dry. Salt and Pepper shrimp had good taste but instead of using peppers, it appears they use peppers and Sichuan pepper (numbing) for a non traditional taste. The Tofu and BBQ pork is a stable that goes well with rice and reminded us of the days where we had to quickly eat a hearty rice dish and get back to work. The fish came in a big bowl with some vegetables and had some soup (felt more like a casserole) For dessert, you won’t find any mango putting. We opted for the purple glutinous rice with coconut milk, and the peach gum with coconut milk. We found the purple glutinous rice more to our liking to round out this meal.
