About Hot Murga

Located at 140 Howe St in New Haven, CT, Hot Murga presents a unique culinary experience, specializing in a fusion of Nashville-style chicken with Indian flavors. While listed under a platform category of Chinese Restaurants, Hot Murga offers a distinct menu centered around spicy chicken and creative sides.

Environment: Customers describe the establishment as small with limited seating but note that it is really clean and has a fresh vibe. The bathroom is also mentioned as being nicer than many fast-casual restaurants. The service can be slow at times due to the volume of takeout orders.

Services: Hot Murga offers a limited but well-regarded menu, available for both dine-in and takeout. Their offerings include three varieties of sliders (with the Szechuan being a standout), masala fries, the highly recommended Badmaash's Mac & Cheese (a fusion dish with chicken, masala, and mint chutney), the Murga sandwich, and masala wings. While service can be slow due to takeout orders, customers generally express intent to return and try more items.

Features: A key feature of Hot Murga is its unique take on Nashville chicken, incorporating Indian spices and flavors into its dishes. The Badmaash's Mac & Cheese is particularly popular, praised for its fusion concept, huge portion size with ample chicken, and cheesy flavor with masala and mint chutney sauces. The use of metal trays for serving is noted. However, one customer suggested a different serving dish for the Mac & Cheese to avoid the paper liner soaking up the sauce. The Murga sandwich is considered above average, although one customer found the amount of Indian spices to be less noticeable than expected. The masala wings were described as just okay, lacking significant flavor.

Promotional Information: There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the positive feedback on items like the sliders and the Badmaash's Mac & Cheese can be seen as organic endorsements. Customers interested in learning about any current specials or new menu items are encouraged to contact Hot Murga directly at (475) 321-2153 or +1 475-321-2153.

In conclusion, Hot Murga in New Haven, CT, offers a distinctive dining experience by blending Nashville hot chicken with Indian-inspired flavors. Despite its small size and occasional slow service due to takeout orders, the restaurant has garnered positive reviews for its creative menu items, particularly the sliders and the fusion Mac & Cheese. Found this place randomly and thought of trying it. They have a limited menu but all good options. We tried all 3 slider varieties and their masala fries, everything tasted great - the Szechuan sliders were the best! The place is small and doesn’t have a lot of seating, service can be slow because of takeout orders, nonetheless we will definitely be going back to try more!

This is a unique take on Nashville chicken. The store was really clean and had a fresh vibe to it. Bathroom was also nicer than many fast casual restaurants. Now onto the fun stuff. Badmaash's Mac & Cheese is a must try and liked the fusion idea. Huge portion with a lot of chicken. Super cheesy and I liked the masala and mint chutney sauces on top. It is very heavy so I think it’s best to share as an app instead of as your main meal. I like the metal trays everything is served on but felt the Mac & Cheese could use a better serving dish. Or at least remove the paper insert it was served on because that soaked up the sauce and started to tear. I enjoyed the Murga sandwich and was above average. I did find the amount of Indian spices in it to be less than expecting though and it wasn’t extremely noticeable. That would be my main critique. I will try the masala sandwich next time to see if it has more Indian spices in it. The Masala wings were just okay and wouldn’t really recommend. Moist and crispy but didn’t have a lot of flavor on them.

First time at this place, the masala fries are very crispy and flavorful (with a hint of curry and masala). The tikka masala chicken sandwich is also good. I ordered takeout, so I asked for the sauce on the side, and it was a good decision as you can dip your fries in it!

Disappointment struck when I ordered the salad bowl at Hot Murga, expecting a generous serving of their renowned chicken. Alas, the protein portion was startlingly minute. However, the atmosphere won me over. Walking into an entirely empty restaurant can be awkward, but Hot Murga's vibes were surprisingly cozy. The decor and music created a welcoming ambiance. I'll give them another chance, as their chicken sandwich has piqued my interest. Perhaps that'll be the true test of Hot Murga's cluck-worthy reputation. *Pros:* Charming atmosphere, intriguing menu options *Cons:* Skimpy chicken serving in salad bowl *Will I return?* Absolutely - that chicken sandwich is calling my name!

I ordered Murgha Masla Sandwich, Masala Fries & Masala Wings. The Wings were too bad and Fries are too oily and over fried. Seems like they didn’t filtered or changed the oil this time. I will attach pictures with this review.
