One of the things I noticed about restaurants in the US was how they blend perfectly into the decor of the building. The interiors are the ones that make a difference. The other is the way in which the menu is presented and explained. All the cocktails had exotic names and it was clear that the ones conceiving the concoctions were having good fun - even to the extent of mildly embarrassing the customers ordering them There was one lamb dish which I did not eat and the report was that it went down well. The Singapore Noodles, the ginger rice and the accompaniments were great. Different from the Indian version of Chinese food but hitting the right notes. The dessert was a revelation. The sweet bit came out on top but the textures and the interplay of the other elements in the dish, including the floral flavours were amazing. It's not for everyone, so be warned before you're tempted to order it. There was striking graffiti on the walls leading up to the hotel, so I have included a picture of that, even though it should not be in the review if I was being strict. Hop Alley comes from hip hop and that influence is apparent in the overall decor and music as well as the atmosphere. Makes for an interesting combination and they seem to have found their niche
We arrived around 5:30pm prior to it gets busy and noisy. Great service and good. It’s definitely fusion cuisine, and had its own twist. Some dishes may be on the saltier side, especially on vegetables, but they are till very good and highly recommended.
Great food and atmosphere The fried chicken dish and the steak (not the ribeye, but the other one) was the standout. Oh and the duck egg roll was very good too! The eggplant and the broccoli were just okay. The broccoli was too many stalks for what I like. The bone marrow fried rice was just okay too. I would go back for the fried chicken and the steak dish and the duck egg roll for sure. The ambiance (hip hop music) and the service was wonderful. Make sure to make a reservation
Hop Alley was great from when we entered to when we left! Everyone was very inviting and we never felt like we needed more assistance. The food was amazing and the recommendations were spot on. Every aspect about the experience was perfect and we will definitely be back!
Fantastic experience sitting at the bar and being waited on by Meg! This was our first time and we’ll definitely be back. We gave her complete freedom to come up with cocktails for us and she nailed them. We split four dishes between the two of us; the chilled tofu with bang bang and peanut sauce topped w cilantro and peanuts (comes with rice), three chile fried chicken thighs (sooo spicy, would love a dipping sauce w this to cool it off), duck wraps w cabbage, and steak w soy sauce and egg yolk for dipping. I would definitely order the tofu again (my favorite) and the steak/yolk dish (my husbands favorite) again next time visiting. Besides that I’d probably try new dishes on the menu. So good! Very worth it.
