About Hong Shing Restaurant

Hong Shing Restaurant, situated at 195 Dundas St W in Toronto, offers Chinese cuisine for takeout and delivery. As a Chinese restaurant providing meal delivery services, it allows local users to enjoy a variety of dishes from the comfort of their homes. Recent customer experiences provide insights into the quality of their food for takeout.

One customer who ordered a range of dishes, including chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, snow pea leaf, General Tao chicken, sweet and sour pork, chicken balls, and deep-fried squid, found most items to be satisfactory. However, there were specific issues noted with certain dishes. The General Tao chicken was reported to have an excess of chewy batter, which may have been exacerbated by the takeout format. Similarly, the chicken balls had batter that was described as slightly overdone and dry, and the deep-fried squid was noted for its chewy texture.

Another customer had a particularly negative experience with the spicy squid, describing it as excessively chewy to the point of causing jaw discomfort. This customer also reported an issue with their order replacement and being charged for the uneaten squid, leading to a perception of the restaurant being expensive with subpar food quality in that instance.

Despite some negative feedback regarding specific dishes and textures in takeout orders, one customer mentioned enjoying the majority of their meal and expressed a desire to visit the restaurant in person, suggesting that the dine-in experience might differ. However, based on the available takeout reviews, it's advisable for local users considering Hong Shing Restaurant for delivery to be aware of potential inconsistencies in the texture and preparation of certain fried items, particularly the General Tao chicken, chicken balls, and squid.

I recently ordered takeout from Hong Shing and tried a variety of dishes including chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, snow pea leaf, General Tao chicken, sweet and sour pork, chicken balls, and deep-fried squid. While I found most of the dishes to be okay, I did have some issues with the General Tao chicken, which had a lot of chewy batter pieces, possibly because it didn’t carry well for takeout. The chicken balls also had slightly overdone and dry batter, and the deep-fried squid had a chewy texture as well. Despite these drawbacks, I enjoyed the rest of the meal and would definitely come back to try the restaurant in person.

I would give zero if I could. I ordered for this spicy squid and the squid was so chewy that my jaw is still hurting from chewing it. I asked for the order to be replaced and they replaced the order with fried shrimp but still they charged me for the squid that I didn’t eat. Expensive restaurant but bad food.

I went 45 mins before closing and they were extremely receptive of us. Service was top notch and food was delicious. Large portions and reasonably priced. The vibes were also great (mostly hip hop music playing while I was there). Will for sure be coming back.

Went here for their happy hour which is daily from 5 - 7 p.m. Sat at the bar and our server Ranger was a great server and bartender. He explained the cocktails (flavors and ingredients) and was very friendly while the restaurant was busy. I recommend the pineapple baiju. We ordered the wings which are a really good deal (half price) and tried the honey garlic, which was on the sweeter side which I liked. I would come back to try the other flavors. The dim sum options are ok, not worth it to me as you get a very small portion. Overall great service, good food and I would come back.

Had the lunch set menu which was $18 for select appetizers (three soups to choose from) and an entrée: some kind of meat dish or vegetarian dish with rice or stir-fried noodles. Great value for the amount of food you get and pretty decent quality. Service was fine - need additional prompting sometimes because they take a while, but okay if you’re not in too much of a rush.
