About Hong's Kitchen
Located at 3917 Noriega Street in San Francisco, Hong's Kitchen operates within the platform category of Chinese Restaurants, providing a range of Chinese cuisine options for local diners. This establishment presents itself as a quiet, no-frills restaurant situated near the beach, offering a more laid-back dining atmosphere. It features a simple setup with a few booths and larger round tables capable of comfortably seating up to eight people.
Based on the available customer reviews, the experience at Hong's Kitchen appears to be somewhat mixed. One reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction, citing "indifferent service" and a lack of care in food preparation. This customer detailed an unpleasant experience with a pork chop that contained excessive gristle and bone fragments, culminating in the discovery of a small piece of wire on their plate. The reviewer also noted a perceived lack of concern from the staff regarding this issue and described the atmosphere as having "zero atmosphere." Additionally, it was mentioned that Hong's Kitchen operates on a "cash only" basis. This negative feedback suggests that some diners may find the service and food quality to be inconsistent or below expectations.
In contrast, another reviewer offered a different perspective, suggesting that those who enjoy "saucy" Chinese food might find Hong's Kitchen appealing. This customer described the restaurant as having one waitress and a small kitchen. A surprising feature highlighted in this review was the presence of a "lamb section" on the menu, which was considered unusual for a restaurant of its size. The two lamb dishes sampled were described as "delicisioso," indicating a potential strength in this particular area of their offerings. The reviewer also recommended ordering white rice by the serving to accompany the saucier dishes. Similar to the other review, this customer also noted the "cash only" policy.
Considering these contrasting experiences, it's difficult to form a definitive overall picture of Hong's Kitchen. The negative review raises concerns about food quality control and customer service, particularly regarding the preparation of certain dishes and the handling of issues. The positive review, on the other hand, points to a specific culinary strength, the lamb dishes, and suggests that the restaurant might cater to a particular preference for saucy Chinese cuisine. The mention of a quiet, no-frills environment could be seen as either a drawback (as per the first review's "zero atmosphere" comment) or a neutral characteristic, depending on individual preferences for dining ambiance.
The fact that Hong's Kitchen is a "cash only" establishment is a crucial piece of information for potential customers. This limitation might be inconvenient for some and is worth noting before deciding to dine there.
In summary, Hong's Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant located on Noriega Street in San Francisco, offering a casual, no-frills dining setting. While one customer experienced significant issues with food quality and service, another found the saucy dishes and particularly the lamb offerings to be enjoyable. The restaurant operates on a cash-only basis. For local users considering Hong's Kitchen, it would be prudent to weigh these contrasting reviews. If you have a preference for saucy Chinese food and are interested in trying their lamb specialties, and are prepared for a potentially basic environment and the cash-only payment policy, Hong's Kitchen might be an option. However, the negative feedback regarding food preparation and service should also be taken into consideration.

I wouldn't go back. Indifferent service. No care was taken to trim my porkchop. I was constantly removing gristle and bits of bone after most bites. Towards the end of my meal, I found a small piece of wire on my plate. The woman couldn't care less. Zero atmosphere. Cash only. In one of the Chinese food capitals of the world, why go back?
If you like your Chinese food like you like your telenovelas (saucy) then you would like Hong’s Kitchen. Quiet no frills restaurant with one waitress and a small kitchen near the beach with a few booths and a few larger round tables that can easily seat 8 people comfortably. Was surprised they have a lamb section for such a small restaurant and the two lamb dishes were delicisioso. Order white rice by the serving to go with all your sauciness. Cash only, your credit card is unworthy here.
The porridge w/ meatballs was the highlight. Meatballs had nice texture & flavor. The beef chow fun was good. Some enjoyed the squab. The preserved egg & pork porridge was completely bland.
I ordered a plate of lunch special Sweet and Sour Pork. The flavor is great, very sweet and sour. The portion is huge for a lunch portion, definitely had a food coma after that. The decor is definitely old school and a little dirty, but this is the kind of place it is, no frills with fairly cheap prices for good quality food.
Hong's Kitchen is like eating in SF in the 1980's. Not very romantic inside but the food can be excellent. If you take the time to order in advance there are many great dishes. Crab with rice cakes, Fried Chicken stuffed with sticky rice and Winter Mellon Soup (just to name a few). These are special and worth planning around. If you go in last minute there are some Cantonese dishes that are fine but not any better or worse than any other old school Chinese restaurant in SF. Also byob!
