About Hong Nien Chinese Restaurant
Hong Nien Chinese Restaurant, located at 2153 N King St #111 in Honolulu, Hawaii, falls under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," serving the local community with a range of Chinese dishes. Based on the limited but insightful customer reviews available, Hong Nien appears to be a straightforward, no-frills establishment that prioritizes good food and quick service at reasonable prices.
One reviewer described Hong Nien as a "nice little spot," further characterizing it as a "dive joint," implying a casual and unpretentious environment. This suggests that customers looking for a fancy or highly decorated dining experience might find Hong Nien to be more focused on the food and efficiency rather than elaborate ambiance. This reviewer tried the sweet and sour chicken and noted that it had better flavor compared to their coworker's Kung Pao chicken, which was described as "not very spicy." Despite the Kung Pao not meeting expectations for spiciness, both reviewers agreed that the sweet and sour chicken was flavorful. The restaurant was also noted to be "reasonably priced," making it an attractive option for budget-conscious diners seeking Chinese cuisine in Honolulu.
Another customer highlighted the "limited dining" aspect, suggesting that the restaurant might have a smaller seating capacity or primarily focus on takeout orders. Despite this, they praised the "good food and quick service." This reviewer specifically ordered the Peking duck (half portion) and rice. Interestingly, the Peking duck was served as a bao (a steamed bun filled with the duck) in addition to being presented on its own plate. The reviewer "completely enjoyed it," indicating satisfaction with this particular dish and the unique way it was served. This suggests that Hong Nien might offer some dishes with a creative or less traditional presentation while still delivering on taste.
Based on these reviews, Hong Nien Chinese Restaurant seems to be a local eatery that prioritizes the quality and taste of its food and the efficiency of its service. The environment is described as simple and unpretentious, possibly with limited seating, making it a potentially good option for a quick meal or takeout. The sweet and sour chicken appears to be a popular and flavorful choice, and the Peking duck bao is a noteworthy item that was well-received.
Given the description as a "dive joint," the environment at Hong Nien is likely to be casual and functional, focusing on providing a space to eat rather than a specific ambiance. Customers might expect basic décor and a laid-back atmosphere. The "limited dining" suggests that the space might be small, or that the setup favors quick turnover or takeout customers. Those looking for an intimate or formal dining setting might need to consider other options.
The services offered seem to emphasize speed and efficiency. The "quick service" mentioned by one reviewer indicates that Hong Nien is likely a good choice for those who are short on time or prefer a fast turnaround. While dine-in is available (albeit potentially limited), takeout is also likely a significant part of their service model, catering to customers who prefer to eat elsewhere. The friendly or welcoming nature of the staff is not explicitly mentioned, but the focus on quick and reasonably priced food suggests a practical approach to service.
Features of Hong Nien Chinese Restaurant include its reasonably priced menu, making it an accessible option for many. The sweet and sour chicken stands out as a flavorful dish according to one review. The unique presentation of the Peking duck as a bao, in addition to a plate, suggests a willingness to offer dishes with a slight twist or different format. The "good food" in general, as mentioned by both reviewers, is a primary feature that attracts and satisfies customers.
Currently, there is no information available regarding any specific promotional offers or special deals at Hong Nien Chinese Restaurant. Local users interested in dining here might want to inquire directly about any daily specials, lunch menus, or combination deals that could be available. Given its nature as a smaller, local establishment, promotions might be less advertised online and more visible in-store or through word of mouth.
In conclusion, Hong Nien Chinese Restaurant in Honolulu offers a no-frills dining experience with a focus on good, reasonably priced food and quick service. The sweet and sour chicken is recommended for its flavor, and the Peking duck bao is a unique and enjoyable dish. The environment is casual, possibly with limited seating, suggesting it might be well-suited for those seeking a quick meal or takeout. Nice little spot. No frills. Probably consider a dive joint. I had the sweet and sour chicken. My coworker had the kung pao. His was not very spicy. Overall we both agreed that mine had better flavor. Reasonably priced.
Limited dining. Good food and quick service. I ordered Peking duck (half) and rice. It came as a bao and its own plate. Completely enjoyed it.
Chicken chop suey. All cabbage and bean sprouts. Tastes like microwavable chicken and very chewy. I wouldn’t go back or recommend it.
Aloha; this spot has been around for years but this was my first time enjoying thier establishment with my family. The service was quiet but instant, food was served the quickest I have ever seen in a Chinese spot. The food was perfect, cake noodles were perfect, Mongolian beef tender, Egg Blossom soup was unreal good and Peking duck was perfectly tender and moist. There are only about 32 seats available but most people do take out. It's super old school look made me feel like it was the 80 again enjoying it with family...I loved it. You have to try it. This is how I remember traditional Chinese food.
My wife and I have been coming to this place for years. They have a great selection and we've enjoyed anything we've ordered. We usually order take out and get enough to re-heat over the weekend. Staff has always been friendly, fast, and they've never made a mistake yet.
