Hong Li Intro

Hong Li is a Chinese restaurant located at 1821 Pitkin Ave in Brooklyn, New York. As a local Chinese restaurant, it offers a variety of Chinese dishes for takeout, and potentially delivery, to the surrounding area.

Recent customer reviews present mixed but concerning feedback. Several reviews from the past few months indicate a significant issue with the saltiness of the food. Customers have reported that familiar dishes, including Wonton Soup, Lo Mein (pork, chicken, and vegetables), Fried Rice (pork, chicken), Egg Rolls, and Fried Chicken wings, were excessively salty. One reviewer also noted that the fried chicken wings tasted as if they were fried in old oil, causing an uncomfortable sensation.

In addition to the food quality concerns, there are serious hygiene issues raised in customer reviews. Multiple instances of hearing someone coughing and hacking with mucus while waiting for orders have been reported, leading one customer to feel disgusted and wanting to vomit. Another reviewer explicitly stated that they would not return due to this and the observation of no masks being worn in the kitchen. A further review from November 2024 reiterates the issue of hearing "HACKING MUCUS sound" while waiting for food, prompting the customer to only order fries on that occasion and vowing not to buy food from the restaurant again.

However, one more recent review offers a contrasting perspective, stating that the staff was "110% response, respectful," and efficient in taking orders. This reviewer also mentioned receiving fortune cookies and found the food to be hot and of regular Chinese restaurant taste. This reviewer suggested that negative experiences might stem from rude customer behavior.

Overall, the recent feedback for Hong Li reveals significant concerns regarding the excessive saltiness of the food and potential hygiene issues, particularly concerning coughing and the absence of mask-wearing in the kitchen. While one customer reported a positive experience with the staff and the taste of the food, the repeated negative comments regarding food quality and hygiene are important for potential customers to consider. I decided to come here myself and see why all the negative reviews. The staff here was 110% response, respectful, and took orders perfectly fine. Even gave fortune cookies to several individuals that walked in and asked. To add. The food was hot and your regular tasting Chinese restaurant. On the other hand it's more the customers placing their orders in a rude way with no reason.
