About Hong Kong Snack House
Hong Kong Snack House, located at 3288 Pierce St #111 in Richmond, California, presents a unique culinary experience that goes beyond the traditional Chinese restaurant. While categorized as a Chinese restaurant, customer reviews reveal that this establishment offers a delightful fusion of Asian street food, with a strong emphasis on authentically yummy Vietnamese cuisine alongside other popular Asian snacks and beverages. This makes it a noteworthy spot for local users seeking a diverse and flavorful quick bite.
The environment of Hong Kong Snack House is described as a "little hole in the wall Cafe," suggesting a cozy and perhaps somewhat compact space. One reviewer humorously noted that the entire shop "looks like someone just crammed lots of signage and decorations in the tiny space to make it look busier and fuller," even wondering "how the people that work there get behind the counter." This description paints a picture of a bustling, albeit small, establishment with a vibrant and perhaps slightly cluttered aesthetic, indicative of a busy and popular spot. Adding to the lively atmosphere is the "loud techno/club/dance music" that is often played, making it easily identifiable. While the ambiance might not be for those seeking a quiet or spacious dining experience, it contributes to the unique and energetic vibe of the snack house.
The service at Hong Kong Snack House is consistently praised for its friendliness. The owner is described as "super sweet," and the workers are noted to be "really nice" and willing to "explain what they have to offer and what it is if you don't know." This helpful and approachable service is a significant positive aspect, especially given the diverse menu that might be unfamiliar to some customers. The staff's willingness to guide patrons through the offerings enhances the overall experience and makes it more accessible to newcomers. Despite the potential for the shop to get "a bit overwhelming if there are lots of people waiting" due to the menu's diversity, the friendly and informative service helps to mitigate this.
A key feature of Hong Kong Snack House is its diverse menu, which spans beyond typical Chinese fare to include a variety of Asian street food favorites. The strong Vietnamese influence is evident in offerings like "banh mi" (Vietnamese sandwiches) and "fresh spring rolls." Additionally, they serve a range of popular Asian beverages, including "boba tea" (bubble tea). The menu also features sweet and savory items such as "crepes," "sweet ginger tofu," and "egg bubble waffle" (also known as eggette or gai dan zai), showcasing a broad selection of Asian snacks and light meals.
Customer reviews highlight the quality and appeal of several specific items. The crepes, in particular, seem to be a popular choice, with fillings like fresh mango pieces, ice cream, and whip cream receiving positive feedback for being "delicious and not too sweet." However, a strawberry crepe with strawberry jam was noted as being "too sweet," indicating some variability in the sweetness levels depending on the fillings. The Thai iced tea with boba was also ordered, although one reviewer found it necessary to eat something salty beforehand to fully appreciate its flavor due to the sweetness of the crepes. The warm silken tofu with ginger syrup is another intriguing offering, though one reviewer did not try it due to the other sweet items they had ordered.
The "bubble egg waffles" are described as "hot with a good vanilla flavor," featuring a desirable combination of a "crunchy on the outside with a chewy mochi like interior." This textural contrast makes them a unique and enjoyable treat. The "fish curry balls" were also well-received, noted for being "pretty flavorful and firm with a bit of chewiness." However, one reviewer found it necessary to remove them from the stick to better coat them in the curry sauce.
Hong Kong Snack House celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023, and at the time of one review in October 2023, they had a "buy 2 get 1 free deal" advertised. This promotion was still ongoing as of a review in March 2024, specifically mentioned for the crepes ("We ordered three crepes, and the third was free"). This indicates that the "buy two get one free" offer might be a recurring or long-lasting promotion, at least on certain items like crepes. Local users should inquire about the specifics of this deal and whether it applies to other items on the menu.
In summary, Hong Kong Snack House offers a unique and diverse culinary experience in Richmond, blending the flavors of Vietnamese street food with other popular Asian snacks. The friendly owner and staff contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, despite the small and bustling environment. The menu features a variety of tasty options, including banh mi, spring rolls, boba tea, delicious crepes, bubble egg waffles, and more. The ongoing "buy two get one free" promotion on at least some items adds to the value. While the loud music and cramped space might not appeal to everyone, those looking for a quick, flavorful, and diverse selection of Asian street food will likely find Hong Kong Snack House a worthwhile stop in the Ranch 99 complex.
Local users in Richmond and the surrounding areas looking for a departure from traditional Chinese cuisine and a taste of authentic Vietnamese street food alongside other Asian favorites should definitely consider visiting Hong Kong Snack House at 3288 Pierce St #111. The owner is super sweet! Did you know they've been here 20 years? I know what their secret is. It's authentically yummy Vietnamese street style food! Everything from banh mi, fresh spring rolls, boba tea, to crepes. This is my favorite quick stop when I'm in the neighborhood.
Little hole in the wall Cafe that serves what essentially is asian street food. They have vietnamese sandwiches, Boba drinks, sweet ginger tofu, crepes, egg buble waffle, and some other sweet and savory offerings. You can easily find this shop by following the loud techno/club/dance music they play on the speakers. The workers are really nice and explain what they have to offer and what it is if you don't know. It can get a bit overwhelming if there are lots of people waiting since the menu is so diverse. The entire shop looks like someone just crammed lots of signage and decorations in the tiny space to make it look busier and fuller. I don't even know how the people that work there get behind the counter. Haha. When we came for a weekend late night snack/dessert run at close to 8:40pm there wasn't too many people but within 5 to 10 minutes more people started to come by to buy stuff. We ordered a crepe that had fresh mango pieces, ice cream and whip cream; a crepe with fresh strawberry pieces, ice cream and whip cream; thai iced tea with Boba; and a warm silken tofu with ginger syrup. The mango crepe was delicious and not too sweet. The strawberry crepe was too sweet since they used strawberry jam while the mango crepe had a drizzle of mango syrup. I couldn't taste the Thai ice tea until we got home and ate something salty to counter all that sweet stuff we ate. I didn't even attempt to try the warm silken tofu since I was eating the crepe and I wouldn't have tasted anything anyways. We will be back to try the other stuff they have. Everything looks delicious. Update 10/15/23. Came here for a little treat because of my son's birthday. We noticed that they had signs advertising 20th anniversary buy 2 get 1 free deal. Honestly I don't remember them being there for 20 years but whatever... We ordered Thai teas, fish curry balls, and bubble egg waffles. The Thai teas were good, the curry balls were pretty flavorful and firm with a bit of chewiness but I had to take them off the stick in order to coat them in the curry sauce at the bottom of the tray. The waffles were hot with a good vanilla flavor. They were crunchy on the outside with a chewy mochi like interior. Update 3/9/24. Came here for an after dinner treat and got ourselves some crepes. Super yummy as always and friendly owner. They still have a special buy two get one free deal. We ordered three crepes, and the third was free.

Too expensive for what you pay for. Although all the snacks and desserts here are delicious! I ordered the eggpuff waffle with ice cream as shown in the photo and the total came out to about $13. There's no filling where the cardboard holder is so it looks a bit misleading. I thought it cost a little too much, but great for a quick snack.
They were super nice and now accept card! I got a little passion fruit boba and the person working gave me a red straw for new year and it was very cute vibes. Google says theyโre closed but they were open today (Monday 1/21)
