As a fixture in the Chinese Restaurant category, Hong Kong Restaurant has been serving the Tacoma community for many years, earning a reputation for its consistently good food, excellent service, and classic American Chinese dining experience. If you're looking for a reliable spot with familiar flavors and a welcoming atmosphere, Hong Kong Restaurant is a tried-and-true local favorite.

The environment of Hong Kong Restaurant is described by a recent visitor as having "amazing service and decor," characterizing it as a "classic American Chinese restaurant." This suggests a traditional and comfortable setting, likely with familiar decorative elements often associated with Chinese-American eateries. The fact that a long-time customer, who frequented the restaurant in the late 1990s and early 2000s, noted that the enjoyable experience and quality remain consistent even after moving back to the area in 2025, speaks volumes about the enduring nature of the restaurant's ambiance and appeal. The presence of "plenty of food" with the lunch special also implies that the restaurant is generous with its portions, contributing to a satisfying dining experience.

The services at Hong Kong Restaurant consistently receive high praise. The staff members are described as "awesome" and "very kind." The long-time patron specifically recalled "great service" from years past and confirmed that it "still is now." This consistency over a significant period indicates a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and a well-trained, dedicated team. The staff's kindness was also highlighted in their interaction with a "six-month-old," suggesting a family-friendly and accommodating approach. The attentive and friendly service appears to be a cornerstone of the Hong Kong Restaurant experience, contributing significantly to its positive reputation and repeat business.

A key feature of Hong Kong Restaurant is its menu of classic American Chinese dishes, which have stood the test of time and continue to please customers. One reviewer specifically enjoyed the lunch special, which on April 10, 2025, was a combination plate featuring sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, and almond chicken. The reviewer found it "delicious with plenty of food," even taking some home for dinner. This positive feedback on a lunch special suggests that Hong Kong Restaurant offers good value and satisfying portions, particularly during their lunch service. Another standout dish, according to a different customer, was the General Tso chicken, which was described as "very crisp" and customizable in spiciness (they opted for an 8 out of 10). This indicates that the kitchen pays attention to texture and flavor profiles, catering to individual preferences for spice levels.

Other dishes sampled by reviewers include the hot and sour soup, which was considered "pretty good" and noted for having "lots of veggies" in a "tasty though different" preparation. This suggests a willingness to include a generous amount of fresh ingredients in their soups, even if the flavor profile might have a unique twist. The crab rangoon was also deemed "pretty good," indicating a satisfactory version of this popular appetizer. However, one dish, the Mongolian beef, was found to be "too sweet" by one customer, highlighting that individual taste preferences can vary. Despite this, the reviewer expressed interest in returning to try more menu items, suggesting that the overall experience was positive enough to warrant further exploration of the menu.

The mention of a "Sue Kidd sticker" by one reviewer adds a touch of local history and nostalgia, perhaps hinting at the restaurant's long-standing presence in the Tacoma area. This small detail further reinforces the idea of Hong Kong Restaurant as a well-established and familiar part of the community.

I use to work in Tacoma in late 1990s and early 2000s and came here for lunch frequently. It was good food and great service then and still is now. I moved to Oregon in 2005 and have since moved back to Pierce County. Today, April 10, 2025, I came by for the lunch special - combination plate of sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice and almond chicken. It was delicious with plenty of food...I am taking some of it home for my dinner tonight. The staff members are awesome! It was the same enjoyable experience that I remember way back when! I will - for sure - be back! :)

The service and decor is amazing. It’s classic American Chinese restaurant. They were very kind to our Sox month old. Of what we ordered my favorite was the general tso chicken. It was very crisp. We got 8/10 spicy which I liked. Hot and sour soup was pretty good. Lots of veggies in it which was tasty though different. Crab Rangoon were pretty good. My wife got Mongolian beef which was too sweet for her. We also noticed an old Sue Kidd sticker. I’m curious to see her review. We’ll be back to try more menu items.

I went here because it had a high rating. The restaurant looked cool. Service was on point and extremely friendly. The food was awful. The Szechuan chicken was inedible. There is too much sauce. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was the worst I have ever had. There is so much batter and no shrimp. On the other hand. The Hot and Sour soup was the best I have ever had.

Wasn't impressed with the almond fried chicken, sweet and sour pork, or the bbq pork fried rice. The chow mein was decent though. Torn between 2 and 3 stars.

Absolutely not. We ordered 2 Dinner D's and the amount of food for the price was INSANE, the website said $23 something per person for dinner D, and the only thing extra we ordered was a side of crab Rangoons, and it came out to like $67, and I didn't think much of it until I saw the amount of food, it seriously looked like we only got 1 dinner, not both. I even called to ask and she said it's correct, there was 1 small container of orange chicken, a small thing of rice, everything was so tiny and such a little amount it's absolutely blowing my mind. Almost $70 for barely enough food for 2 people, more like 1. Extremely irritating, and I would like to point out that every other restaurant or fast food place I've been to in tacoma has a "Great" from the health inspection, this place has an "okay" as of July 2024, definitely wouldn't recommend, I didn't eat, there wasn't enough food for the 3 people we had, my partner said it was bland and the egg roll was funky
