About Hong Kong Restaurant

Welcome to Hong Kong Restaurant, a local Chinese restaurant situated at 3871 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, USA. As a Chinese restaurant located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, Hong Kong Restaurant distinguishes itself by offering late-night dining options, catering to those seeking a meal in the early hours. Located on Fourth Avenue, it provides a convenient solution for late-night cravings in the city. For inquiries or to place an order, you can contact them by phone at (619) 291-9449 or via mobile at +1 619-291-9449.

Based on customer reviews, a notable feature of Hong Kong Restaurant is its extended operating hours, with one satisfied customer highlighting it as a "gem of a place" for late-night eats. This reviewer mentioned that Hong Kong Restaurant stays open exceptionally late, with 3 am being the latest they had ever seen a restaurant open in San Diego. This makes it a valuable option for individuals working late, enjoying the nightlife, or simply seeking a meal outside of typical dining hours. The fact that it is open late is a significant aspect of its service to the local community.

Hong Kong Restaurant primarily serves its food in to-go boxes, regardless of whether customers intend to eat on-site or take their meal elsewhere. This service model offers flexibility, allowing patrons to eat some of their food at the restaurant and easily take the rest home. This approach suggests a focus on convenience and efficiency. While the reviews do not extensively describe the dine-in environment, the provision of to-go boxes for all orders implies a casual setting where the emphasis is on the food and the late-night availability rather than a formal dining ambiance.

A key feature of Hong Kong Restaurant is the positive feedback regarding the quality and temperature of the food. One reviewer specifically mentioned that the food was "good and hot," indicating that the kitchen prioritizes serving freshly prepared meals. This is particularly important for late-night service, where food might sometimes be perceived as less fresh. The same reviewer also appreciated the convenience of everything being served in to-go boxes. Another customer highlighted specific dishes as being particularly good, recommending the "egg drop soup" and the "broccoli beef." This suggests that these items are popular and well-prepared, making them potential highlights of the menu for new customers.

However, not all aspects of the menu received unanimous praise. One reviewer noted that the "egg rolls are basically spring rolls" and were "not the best." This suggests that the traditional expectation of a thicker, more substantial egg roll might not be met, and customers expecting this type of egg roll might be disappointed. It's important to note this distinction for those familiar with different styles of egg rolls versus spring rolls. On a positive note, the same reviewer mentioned that the food was "wrapped up really well so nothing spilled," indicating attention to detail in packaging, which is particularly important for takeout orders.

As a Chinese restaurant with a focus on late-night service, Hong Kong Restaurant caters to a specific need in the San Diego community. The positive feedback regarding the freshness and quality of the food, particularly the recommended dishes, suggests a reliable option for a late meal. I was looking for late night eats and came across this gem of a place. Food was good and hot! I appreciate a spot that is open late not many are in San Diego, 3am is the latest I’ve ever seen a place open! Everything is served in to go boxes so if you wanna eat some there and take the rest home they make that easy for you to do so.

Everything was really good except the egg rolls are basically spring rolls, not the best. Definitely recommend the egg drop soup and broccoli beef. Food was also wrapped up really well so nothing spilled.

It's not what I ordered, the noodles are not cooked and the meat came empty with few vegetables. They didn't want to return my money. Don't buy here i pay 23.00 dollars bad place.

The food was good but not the best I’ve had. We got our food to go. We were unsure if maybe there was some culture difference happening but the lady who originally took our order was a bit abrasive. Just not as friendly as I was in trying to interact with her. Maybe it was an off day 🤷🏻‍♀️. The atmosphere was mediocre. Large comfortable booths but the place had gnats and was “sticky”. It was cute visually. The price was kind of hefty but you get good portions.

I ordered multiple times from here. In March 2025 I found vermin feces in my white rice. I tried talking to the restaurant manager, never answered. Reaching out to the owner, he claimed I was a fake person. I got e-coli that was harmful to me and needing medication to treat. They have failed so many times for health code violations. I have seen 5 times they have been shut down at least. All the reviews on Yelp and others sources cite that there are mice and roaches there. I believe it to be true because of my experience and the amount of people who complain about the same thing. The building itself is very old and I believe that maybe an issue to all this.
