About Hong Kong Noodle House
Welcome to Hong Kong Noodle House, a Chinese restaurant located at 100 N Beretania St #172, Honolulu, HI 96817, USA. Situated within the Chinese Cultural Plaza on Beretania and River Street, Hong Kong Noodle House offers a selection of noodle-based dishes and other Chinese fare. As part of the Chinese Restaurant category, it aims to provide a taste of Hong Kong cuisine to the local Honolulu community and visitors alike. Based on recent customer feedback, the dining experience at Hong Kong Noodle House appears to be a mix of unique flavors and practical considerations.
The environment of Hong Kong Noodle House is described by one reviewer as a "hole in the wall," and another noted that it is "quite hard to find and hidden." This suggests a more unassuming and perhaps less spacious setting, possibly emphasizing the authenticity of the food over elaborate ambiance. Its location within the Chinese Cultural Plaza places it in a potentially vibrant and culturally rich area of Honolulu. However, the challenge in finding the restaurant might be a factor for first-time visitors. One reviewer also humorously mentioned that parking is "terrible," with another echoing this sentiment, stating that it's "basically street parking" and requires patience and circling to find a spot. This is an important practical consideration for those planning to drive to the restaurant.
Service at Hong Kong Noodle House seems to be efficient, with one reviewer noting that their food came out quickly. However, this same reviewer also pointed out some unusual aspects, such as water being served in paper cups and the food being presented on paper plates, with the accompanying soup for tossed noodles served in a shallow plastic container typically used for poke. This led them to speculate about potential staffing constraints, suggesting it might be a small operation, possibly with just two people running it. Another reviewer described the service as friendly, particularly noting the owner's reaction to their knowledge of authentic Hong Kong wonton noodles.
A significant feature of Hong Kong Noodle House is its variety of noodle dishes. The menu is described as "extensive for a small restaurant," offering options like tossed noodles with beef tendon, and tossed noodles with beef tendon and pig's feet. One group who tried these dishes found the noodles to be salty, and while dipping them in the accompanying (also salty) soup helped with the saltiness, it altered the texture, making them softer and, in the opinion of some, overcooked. Conversely, the beef tendon and pig's feet were found to be satisfactory. Another reviewer specifically enjoyed the wonton soup, describing the wontons as having a "bouncy texture" to both the meat and shrimp, with an "authentic flavor" derived from the use of dry fish powder. They also commented on the texture of the skinny noodles in their dish, noting that while they weren't the "bouncy slippery texture" they preferred, they appreciated the effort put into making them.
A standout element mentioned by one reviewer was the "amazing" hot chili oil, which they found to have a "nice kick" and a good level of spiciness, complementing everything they tried. They also appreciated the variety of condiments available on the table, including hot mustard, white peppers, and chili paste. This suggests that the condiments, particularly the hot chili oil, are a noteworthy aspect of the dining experience at Hong Kong Noodle House.
In terms of customization and ordering, one reviewer shared an experience of wanting to mix and match ingredients, such as beef tendon, pig's feet, skinny noodles, and wontons. They found that the restaurant was accommodating to such requests, indicating a willingness to tailor dishes to customer preferences, provided they have the ingredients on hand. This flexibility in ordering could be a significant draw for those with specific tastes or dietary needs.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Hong Kong Noodle House based on the provided reviews. The primary draw seems to be the authentic Hong Kong-style noodle dishes, the potential for customization, and the availability of condiments like the praised hot chili oil. The affordable pricing is implied by the fact that a meal for three with tossed noodles and extra toppings cost $50. Local users looking for a genuine taste of Hong Kong noodles in a no-frills setting might find the offerings at Hong Kong Noodle House appealing, despite the reported challenges with parking and the somewhat unconventional serving style.
For local users in Honolulu seeking a Hong Kong-style noodle experience, Hong Kong Noodle House in the Chinese Cultural Plaza offers a menu with a variety of noodle dishes, including options with beef tendon and pig's feet, as well as wonton soup. While some customers have noted issues with the saltiness and texture of certain noodle preparations, the wontons and the hot chili oil have received positive feedback. The restaurant's willingness to accommodate custom orders is also a plus. Potential diners should be aware of the reported difficulties with parking and the basic, "hole in the wall" environment. However, for those prioritizing authentic flavors and a local experience, Hong Kong Noodle House might be worth a visit.
In conclusion, Hong Kong Noodle House provides a taste of Hong Kong-style noodles in Honolulu's Chinatown. While the environment is unassuming and parking can be challenging, the restaurant offers a diverse menu with customizable options. The wonton soup and the house-made hot chili oil are notable highlights. Local users looking for an authentic, albeit perhaps imperfect, Hong Kong noodle experience may find something to appreciate at this hidden gem within the Chinese Cultural Plaza.

Two co-workers and I walked up to the Chinese Cultural Plaza on Beretania and River Street to try a new Taiwanese restaurant. Alas, it was packed so we walked around looking for an alternative. On the River Street side, we stumbled onto Hong Kong Noodle House. We used to come here for duck noodle every now and then a long time ago. Our server brought us water in paper cups (??) and menus. It was an extensive menu for a small restaurant; two of us ordered the tossed noodles ($15) with beef tendon while the third member of our group asked for the tossed noodles with beef tendon and pig’s feet ($18). Our food came out quickly, on paper plates. The soup that accompanies tossed noodles came in a shallow plastic container, like you would get when you buy a quarter pound of poke. We wondered why paper plates and cups; that must increase their costs. The only thing I could think of was staffing. It seemed to be a two-person operation. I tried the noodles first … they were salty. My tablemate suggested dipping the noodles into the soup. I thought that wouldn’t work because the soup was also salty. However, that did work, but it made the noodles softer. My tablemates thought the noodles were overcooked; mine were okay until I dipped them to “rinse off the salt”. Conversely, the tendon was fine as was the pigs feet. Our tab was $50, we left $60 and walked out feeling unsatisfied. My co-workers ended up buying a croissant at Ocean Side Bakery on the way back to our office. We can safely drop Hong Kong Noodle House off our list of places to eat.
I love how it is hole in the wall. And it's quite hard to find and hidden. As well parking is terrible lol. . Parking basically street parking. I found parking across the street with a handicap spot. The parking is terrible and have to make a few circles to find one. . How to order? Basically order anything you see on the menu. If they have it they can mix and match to your liking. The problem is I wanted beef tendon, mom wanted the pig feet, and we both want noodles skinny kind and won ton. But we don't want to order too much as we are doing back to back food experiences. Mind you not we already went to 3 back to back foodie spots lol. At this point we just trying out a new spot. . So we got a plate of skinny noodle tossed with beef tendon and pig feet. Also a plain won ton soup. . Won ton - just a dozen of won ton and plain broth. The Won ton has a bouncy texture to the meat. The shrimp was bouncy too. The flavor was authentic with the dry fish powder in it. . Beef tendon and pigs feet is nothing special with flavor more just for the texture. . Noodles - as soon my chop sticks end touches it I knew it didn't pass my authentic bougie chinese texture for bouncy. The noodle was clumped together and was not bouncy slippery texture. It wasn't bad or good just meh like still missing the texture. The love and sweat is put into making it tho. I really appreciate that. The Chef did a great job just my personal preference. . Hot chili oil is amazing tho. It has a nice kick and was spicy. It went well with everything. I loved it and it was memorable. I love the condiments on the table with the hot muster and white peppers and chili paste and etc. . Overall I had a wonderful experience. It was great to take mama to her own food when she grew up in hkg. I know the authentic of hkg won ton noodles and when I mentioned the dry fish powder in the won ton, the owner knew I know how to eat and no further questions asked lol. It was funny to everyone that a ABC knows his won ton seriously. Thanks for reading and hope this helps. Have a yelptastic day.
It's a small restaurant, but they accommodate for bigger parties. Ee had the roast duck with rice, tossed noodles, and soup! It was amazing. Our girls loved everything they had. Excellent customer service and lovely people.
I have loved this place since I was a child, nothing has changed, just the owners, but still the best people! I eat here at least 3 times while I'm home!
Wonton and beef stew noodle soup, I’m from Hong Kong and I can say the Wonton is on point, it mimicked the texture and flavors successfully, tho the noodle could be cooked better because it’s kinda soft, the al dente of traditional egg noodles should be firmer. The staff are super nice, she also speaks Cantonese !!
