About Hong Kong King Buffet

Welcome to Hong Kong King Buffet, a Chinese restaurant located at 10334 Midlothian Tpke in Richmond, Virginia (zip code 23235, USA). As a buffet-style establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Hong Kong King Buffet aims to offer a wide selection of Chinese dishes in an all-you-can-eat format. They can be contacted at (804) 272-8808 or via their mobile number, +1 804-272-8808.

When considering a buffet restaurant, it is particularly important to take into account the experiences of other diners, as the format involves a wide array of food items and service interactions. Recent online reviews for Hong Kong King Buffet present some significant concerns that potential customers should be aware of.

One reviewer states emphatically that they "will definitely NOT be returning here," citing several issues. Their first point of concern was a requirement to pay before eating, which they found unusual. More significantly, they reported that "most of the food bar looked like it had been sitting there for a few hrs." Specific examples included dry and hard rice, undercooked chicken, and the absence of crab legs despite perceived advertising to the contrary (instead, they found small, dry-looking crabs). Additionally, some other food items were described as cold. This reviewer indicated that they would have left immediately were it not for their mother's hunger. They also described the staff as "not very inviting" and noted a negative overall atmosphere, advising others to "CHOOSE ANOTHER BUFFET."

Another review raises serious allegations regarding billing and tipping practices. This customer claims that staff members approach diners while they are serving themselves food to demand extra payment and pressure them for additional tips beyond what was already paid at the entrance. Disturbingly, they allege that this behavior is particularly directed towards the Hispanic community, especially when clients are not fluent in English. This reviewer strongly advises future patrons to "check out ur receipt don't get scammed."

These reviews paint a concerning picture of Hong Kong King Buffet, particularly regarding food quality, potential discrepancies in advertised offerings (like crab legs), and questionable billing and service practices. The feedback suggests potential issues with food freshness and temperature, as well as an unwelcoming atmosphere and aggressive upselling or additional payment demands.

As a Chinese buffet, Hong Kong King Buffet would typically feature a wide variety of Chinese dishes, often including popular items such as fried rice, noodles, various chicken, beef, and seafood preparations, as well as appetizers, soups, and desserts. Buffets generally aim to provide a broad selection to cater to different tastes. However, the negative reviews raise serious questions about the quality and freshness of the food offered at Hong Kong King Buffet.

The environment of a buffet restaurant is usually characterized by a large dining area with multiple food stations. The decor can vary from simple and functional to more elaborate, depending on the establishment. The negative review mentioning an unwelcoming vibe suggests that the atmosphere at Hong Kong King Buffet may not be conducive to a pleasant dining experience. Factors such as cleanliness, organization of the buffet stations, and the general ambiance contribute to the overall environment, and the feedback suggests potential shortcomings in this area.

In terms of services, a buffet typically involves self-service for the food, with staff primarily responsible for seating guests, clearing tables, and handling payments. The reviews indicate potential issues with staff interactions, both in terms of their general demeanor and their alleged aggressive billing and tipping practices. The requirement to pay before eating, as mentioned by one reviewer, is a less common practice for buffet restaurants and might be indicative of management concerns about payment.

Features that might typically attract customers to a Chinese buffet include a wide variety of dishes at a fixed price, allowing diners to sample different items and eat as much as they like. However, the negative reviews for Hong Kong King Buffet suggest that these potential benefits may be overshadowed by concerns about food quality, missing advertised items, and problematic service and billing. Any unique features that might have set Hong Kong King Buffet apart are not highlighted in the negative feedback, which focuses instead on significant drawbacks.

Promotional information is absent from the provided reviews. Buffets sometimes offer discounts for certain groups (e.g., seniors, children), special pricing on certain days, or combination deals. However, given the serious concerns raised in the existing feedback, potential customers might prioritize addressing these issues before considering any promotional offers. It would be prudent to inquire directly with the restaurant about any current promotions, but also to proceed with caution based on the experiences shared by other diners.

In conclusion, the recent online reviews for Hong Kong King Buffet in Richmond, VA, raise significant concerns regarding food quality, potential false advertising about crab legs, an unwelcoming staff, and questionable billing and tipping practices. Potential customers should carefully consider this feedback before deciding to dine at this establishment. The reviews suggest that the actual experience may fall considerably short of the typical expectations for a Chinese buffet regarding food freshness, variety of advertised items, and customer service. It would be advisable to seek more recent and potentially contrasting reviews or to inquire directly with the management about the issues raised before making a decision. Given the severity of the allegations, proceeding with caution and perhaps considering alternative Chinese dining options in the Richmond area might be prudent.

I will definitely NOT be returning here. First problem that didnt make since was that you gotta pay before u eat. Most of the food bar looked like it had been sitting there for a few hrs. Rice was dry and hard, chicken cuts were not fully done, NO CRAB LEGS (false advertising) but there were some small dry looking crabs, and some other foods were cold. If it wasnt for my mother saying she was HUNGRY i was leaving this place. Also the staff was not very inviting. Sometimes you can feel the vibe and there definitely wasnt one here. CHOOSE ANOTHER BUFFET.

They come up to you when you are serving your food to tell you that you have to pay extra, and they demand more tip when it has already been paid at the entrance. They especially approach the Hispanic community when clients do not know the language. If u come here check out ur receipt don't get scammed.

You pay before you eat and prices are unreasonably high for the quality of the food, which was either cold, flavorless, dry or both. The receptionist was very sweet and friendly, but the one guy with the notepad who told me to eat the 5 pieces of old, very dried out sushi that were left out when I requested a fresh roll can go suck on his toes.

Great food. Great selection. All u can eat snow crabs, clams, shrimp, fish, Chinese, can whatever you want. $16.99 for all u can eat is a fair price. The place was really hot inside though. Service was great as well. Give it a 9.0.
