About Hong Kong Island Restaurant

Hong Kong Island Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at 880 West Boylston Street in Worcester, Massachusetts, serving the local community. Based on recent customer reviews, experiences may vary.

One long-term customer, who had been ordering from the restaurant for two years, reported a decline in quality. Their recent order of kung pao chicken, with a specific request to omit celery, arrived with an unexpected and large quantity of mushrooms (which are not typically included in the dish), along with a few pieces of chicken, a small amount of peanuts, and large pieces of peppers. This customer found the dish "disgusting" and not worth the price.

Another customer expressed disappointment with their order of pork chow mein and general tso chicken. They were surprised to receive a small bag of short crispy noodles with bean sprouts and pork, instructed to mix them, as they expected the traditional long fried noodles. Despite the restaurant's quick and courteous phone response, they insisted this was normal chow mein. Additionally, the general tso chicken was described as looking and tasting like orange chicken, with the restaurant claiming to use orange peels in its preparation, contrary to the customer's expectations and research indicating chili as a standard ingredient. While this customer found the pupu platter to be good and appreciated the phone courtesy, they were ultimately "bummed" at not receiving what they anticipated.

I have been ordering from here for 2 years and it has rapidly gone down-hill. I just ordered kung pau chicken and I asked for no celery - what I got was a few pieces of weird looking chicken, a tablespoon of peanuts, huge chunks of a few peppers, and 2 cups of mushrooms - which aren't even supposed to be in this dish! I had to pick out all the mushrooms, and it was pitiful what was left. It was disgusting - not worth what I paid at all

Not what I expected. We ordered pork chow mein and general tso chicken. I am used to the long fried noodles as chow mein (just google chow mein) What we got instead was a small back of short crispy noodles and a box of bean sprouts and some pork. We were instructed to mix them. (See picture below) I had called them right away and they were very quick to respond which is good. But they insisted that is normal chow mein. When I brought up the general tso chicken looking and tasting like orange chicken she insisted they make general tso chicken with orange peels. Remembering all other previous orders at other restaurants and again googling to ensure I wasn't crazy, supposedly general tsos chicken is made with chili, not orange. I would have given this place one star but the pupu platter was good and they were courteous enough over the phone. In general though, little bummed at not getting what we expected.

We ordered through Grubhub and were very disappointed. The food was quite expensive ($17.95 for Gen Gao's Chicken!), and the portions were small given the price charged. We had three meat dishes and they all had very little meat in them and what meat there was had a thick layer of batter on it. So, basically, there was no meat. It was a very poor value and I suspect because it was a Grubhub order and knowing they wouldn't have to face an angry customer, they thought they could get away with ripping us off. Also, the food quality was well below average. Very disappointed...won't order from here again.

The place looks dirty, the rice was old and hard and they messed my order up. #never again. This is the 2nd time I’ve tried it 1 year apart and I was highly disappointed both times

It was meh. The food wasn't bad but it also wasn't good. The food seemed to be lacking in salt and slightly bland which is surprising.
