For inquiries or orders, they can be reached via phone at (618) 465-8638 or mobile at +1 618-465-8638. As a Chinese Restaurant, Hong Kong House aims to provide a selection of Chinese cuisine for residents and visitors in Alton, IL.
Regarding the environment of Hong Kong House, the provided customer reviews do not offer extensive details about the interior decor, seating arrangements, or overall ambiance. However, the nature of the reviews, which focus heavily on the food itself and the timing of orders (e.g., "Called a hour before closing"), suggests that it functions primarily as a casual dining establishment, potentially with a strong emphasis on takeout service, which is common for many local Chinese restaurants. The absence of specific complaints or praises about the physical space implies that the environment is likely functional and unassuming, serving its purpose without being a standout feature. Customers' experiences are more closely tied to the culinary offerings rather than the dining setting itself, which is a common characteristic of local eateries prioritizing efficiency and food quality over elaborate decor.
The service at Hong Kong House appears to be efficient and capable of handling orders even close to closing time, as evidenced by a customer who "Called a hour before closing food tasted really fresh." This indicates a willingness to accommodate late orders and maintain food quality, which can be a significant positive for customers looking for convenient dining options. While direct comments on staff demeanor or speed of service beyond this instance are not explicitly provided, the overall impression is that the operational aspects of service are competently managed, at least in terms of order fulfillment and freshness, even during potentially busy or winding-down periods. This level of responsiveness contributes positively to customer satisfaction and encourages repeat visits from those who value convenience and fresh food.
Hong Kong House distinguishes itself with certain menu features that have garnered strong positive reactions from some patrons. A standout item highlighted by a customer is the "Chicken St. Paul" sandwich, which was described with enthusiastic praise: "WOW!!! That’s a beautiful sandwich really, it was so good." This indicates a unique and highly satisfying offering that sets the restaurant apart. Additionally, the "pork egg rolls" and "Crab Rangoon" also received positive mentions, suggesting they are well-executed and popular appetizers. Another notable feature is the quality of their rice, which was appreciated for being "good without adding soy sauce or sweet and sour," appealing to those who prefer their rice seasoned adequately on its own. These specific dishes contribute to a favorable impression for some customers, pointing to areas of culinary strength. However, it's also important to note that not all experiences are uniformly positive. Another review stated that "The food was okay. Everything lacked flavor and was over cooked," specifically mentioning "chicken fried rice, general tzo’s, wong tong’s, chow main." This contrasting feedback suggests that the quality and consistency can vary across different dishes, and some may find certain items to be less flavorful or overcooked compared to their expectations. This highlights that while there are definite highlights on the menu, diners may encounter a range of culinary experiences depending on their choice of dish.
As for promotional information, the provided reviews do not detail any explicit promotions, discounts, or special offers from Hong Kong House. The restaurant's primary draw and implicit promotion come from word-of-mouth recommendations, particularly for its standout dishes like the Chicken St. Paul sandwich. A customer's enthusiastic endorsement, "My first time coming here and I will be back!!," serves as a strong informal promotion, indicating a highly positive initial experience that encourages repeat business. For local users, the appeal would be the availability of a Chinese restaurant offering both classic and unique items, with the potential for genuinely fresh and delicious food, even close to closing time. The varied customer feedback, however, suggests that while some dishes are exceptional, others might not meet every diner's expectations regarding flavor and preparation. Therefore, potential new customers might be encouraged to try the highly-rated items, but should also manage their expectations for the broader menu based on the mixed reviews. In the absence of formal promotions, Hong Kong House relies on the quality of its best-received dishes and efficient service to attract and retain its customer base in Alton, IL.

My first time coming here and I will be back!! Called a hour before closing food tasted really fresh. I tried the Chicken St. Paul and WOW!!! That’s a beautiful sandwich really, it was so good. I loved the pork egg rolls as well as the Crab Rangoon. The rice is good without adding soy sauce or sweet and sour which I love. Great place to give a try.
The food was okay. Everything lacked flavor and was over cooked. We had chicken fried rice, general tzo’s, wong tong’s, chow main.
Got takeout recently since I heard they re-opened. You can order online so that's really convenient. The food was super tasty (love that deep color on the fried rice) and good portions. Downsides: very long wait. The online order said 1 hour until pickup, which is pretty long, but then we waited at the restaurant for an additional half an hour to get the food. When we got home, we were missing a few things so that was a bummer. Overall though good food. I will wait a few weeks and try again to see if the wait is better, after all they did just re-open. I'm happy they're back!
The food is decent, except rice was a little dry this last time. I tried their egg rolls for the first time, and they were really good better than their crab ragoon, which is my usual go-to. And I think they should dress up the dine in area a little to make it more desirable to sit in and eat. So many chinese restaurants sadly don't even have a dine in area at all, they do but it could use some decorative something or rather to lighten it up and make it look like less of bore of an experience to sit down and eat their.
Lady was very nice, no problems ordering in the restaurant. Ordered hot braised chicken, it was not spicy and the skin was just falling off. Pork fried rice was bland but cooked perfectly! Overall not bad, I have had worse. May or may not go back.
