About Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant

Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, located at 2904 Turner Rd in Richmond, Virginia, offers both takeout and delivery services, with a limited dine-in capacity. They can be contacted by phone at (804) 675-1328 or +1 804-675-1328.

Customer reviews for Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant present a somewhat mixed but generally positive picture, with specific highlights and areas for potential improvement. One customer who ordered delivery on Super Bowl Sunday reported a quick delivery, well-packed and well-portioned food. Their order included chicken egg rolls, egg drop soup, sesame chicken, and beef with mushrooms (with a special request for no other vegetables). While they found the chicken egg rolls and egg drop soup to be "good" but "nothing special," the sesame chicken was described as "pretty bad" – bland, dry, hard, and chewy. However, the mushroom beef received high praise for its rich and good brown sauce, and the restaurant was commended for accurately following the special request regarding vegetables. This customer concluded that the overall meal was "not awful" and noted a positive experience with a BOGO deal on a subsequent order. They indicated that while it wouldn't be their top choice for all items, it was a fine option "in a pinch," especially for the mushroom beef and egg rolls. They also mentioned the existence of other local Chinese restaurants offering potentially better quality and lower prices for the same amount of food but appreciated Hong Kong's respectful handling of their order and special instructions, leading to a 4-star rating.

Another customer had an overwhelmingly positive experience, describing the food as "delicious!" They particularly enjoyed the stir-fried udon, which had a "very particular asian hot pot taste" that elevated the dish. The appetizers, including crab Rangoon, fried shrimp, and beef fried dumplings, were also praised, leading them to order a second helping to go. Their family enjoyed the lo mein, chicken broccoli, and sweet and sour soup (which had a spicy kick they loved). This reviewer highlighted the "hefty" portion sizes and stated they left "absolutely stuffed" and would "definitely go back soon!"

Regarding the environment, one reviewer noted that there is "not a huge indoor seating," suggesting that the primary focus might be on takeout and delivery. Customers planning to dine in, especially with larger groups, should be aware of this potential limitation. However, this same reviewer was "very impressed" with the staff's speed in getting food out, despite there being only a two-person team at the time of their visit, indicating efficient service despite limited staffing.

The services offered by Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant include takeout and delivery, as mentioned by multiple reviewers. The positive comments about quick delivery and efficient order processing, even with limited staff, suggest a focus on timely service. The willingness to accommodate special requests, as highlighted by the customer who asked for no vegetables with their beef and mushrooms, indicates a degree of flexibility and attention to customer preferences. While dine-in is an option, the limited seating capacity suggests it might be best suited for individuals or smaller groups.

The features of Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant appear to be a mix of well-received and less impressive dishes. Standouts include the beef with mushrooms (praised for its sauce and accurate preparation of special requests) and the stir-fried udon (noted for its unique hot pot flavor). The appetizers, such as crab Rangoon, fried shrimp, and beef fried dumplings, also received positive feedback. However, the sesame chicken was described as bland and of poor texture, and the egg drop soup and chicken egg rolls were considered average. The restaurant's ability to handle special requests accurately seems to be a notable positive feature. The efficient service, even with a small staff, is also commendable. The "hefty" portion sizes offer good value for the amount of food received.

One reviewer mentioned a "special bogo deal" which prompted a repeat order, indicating that Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant does offer promotions. Local users are encouraged to inquire about any current specials or discounts when placing their orders, as this could provide added value to their meal.

For local users in the Turner Road area of Richmond, VA, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant presents a somewhat varied experience based on recent feedback. While some dishes, like the beef with mushrooms and stir-fried udon, have received high praise, others, such as the sesame chicken, were considered disappointing. The appetizers seem to be generally well-received. The restaurant is noted for its quick service and willingness to accommodate special requests, which are significant positives.

The limited indoor seating suggests that takeout and delivery might be the more common ways to enjoy their food, especially for families or larger groups. However, the efficient service for those dining in or picking up orders is a plus. The portion sizes are generally generous, offering good value.

Potential customers might want to consider trying dishes that have received specific positive mentions, such as the beef with mushrooms and the stir-fried udon, and perhaps be more cautious with items like the sesame chicken based on the feedback. Inquiring about any daily specials or promotions could also be beneficial.

In conclusion, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in Richmond, VA, offers a mix of well-received and less impressive dishes, coupled with generally good service and generous portions. Their willingness to accommodate special requests is a notable strength. The limited seating suggests a focus on takeout and delivery. Local users might find success by focusing on dishes that have garnered positive reviews and by inquiring about any ongoing promotions. While not consistently excellent across the board, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant appears to be a reliable option, especially for takeout and delivery, with some standout menu items.

I ordered food delivered on Superbowl Sunday. It arrived quickly, well packed, and well portioned. I got egg rolls, egg drop soup, sesame chicken, and beef with mushrooms, (requested only mushrooms, no other veggies). The chicken egg rolls were good. Nothing special, but good. Same with the egg drop soup. The sesame chicken was actualky pretty bad. Super bland, dry, hard and chewy. But... The mushroom beef was really good though. They followed my request for no other veggies. The brown sauce was really rich and good! So overall it's not an awful meal. I ordered from here tonight because they had a special bogo deal. This won't be my "go to" place for these items, but in a pinch I think it's fine (the mushroom w/beef, and egg rolls at least!). However, there are other Chinese restaurants in the area with better quality and lower prices for same amount of food. I gave 4 stars in spite of the sesame chicken and egg drop soup being pretty bad because they did following the additional request I made about mushrooms only, no veggies on the beef w/mushrooms dish. A lot of restrictions either won't do that or just ignore the notes. So I think overall the restaurant handled my order with respect and I appreciate that.

The food was delicious! I got their stir fired udon that has a very particular asian hot pot taste, and it just elevated the entire dish for me! The appetizers were all yummy from crab Rangoon, fried shrimp, and to beef fried dumplings - i had to grab another order to go! My family got some lo mein, chicken broccoli, and sweet and soup (which has a spicy kick to it that i loved!) The portion sizes were hefty, and I absolutely left stuffed!! I will definitely go back soon! I will say there is not a huge indoor seating so don't expect to bring a HUGE family in but the staff was very quick to get food out for just a 2 person staff so I was very impressed

Basic no frills Chinese delivery food. Delivered in an hour. Lo mein was really good, fried rice was a very fake yellow-orange color with a few peas and carrots. Egg rolls were kind of soggy. Vegetables in the dishes were fresh. Hunan chicken and orange chicken both listed as spicy, but not really. Family meal was a decent value.

This is a really nice independent Chinese restaurant with a HUGE menu. While not the prettiest restaurant, just understand that this is a small place meant for takeout. The food was terrific! The next time you need Chinese take out, give this place a try!

First time ordering and I picked it up. Food was delicious, hot, and fresh. The spices they used are amazing and give it a wonderful flavor. We ordered the family meal (we got four different meats: chicken w broccoli, moo goo gai pan, lemon chicken, and general tso) also we ordered the crab ragoons, and extra shrimp egg roll. I also got a combination platter of beef fried rice with general tso chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious. I recommend this place highly. Staff is extremely nice. Please ignore the negative reviews and try for yourself but for my family (4 kids) who are picky, they loved everything and so did we. 5/5.
