About Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant
Welcome to Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, situated at 310 Oyster Point Rd, Newport News, VA 23602, USA. As a Chinese restaurant in the heart of Newport News, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant aims to provide a variety of classic and contemporary Chinese dishes to the local community. While specific details about the restaurant's ambiance and comprehensive service offerings are not extensively detailed in the available online reviews, we can compile an objective introduction based on the experiences shared by recent customers.
Based on the customer feedback, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant appears to offer both dine-in and takeout services. One long-term customer mentions having "enjoyed the food and customer service" over the years, implying that there is a physical location where one can dine. Additionally, the negative review pertains to a specific order of "Shrimp Egg Foo Young combo," suggesting that takeout is also a service provided. To confirm the current availability of dine-in options, hours of operation, and any specific service protocols, it is recommended that local users contact the restaurant directly at (757) 882-8777 or their mobile number +1 757-882-8777.
In terms of the environment, the provided reviews do not offer much insight into the décor or atmosphere of Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant. The positive review focuses on the enjoyment of food and customer service, suggesting a potentially pleasant setting. However, without more specific details, it is difficult to paint a comprehensive picture of the dining environment. Local users might consider visiting the location or looking for additional online reviews or photos to get a better sense of the restaurant's ambiance.
Regarding the features and the quality of food, the customer reviews present a mixed perspective. One long-time patron expresses overall satisfaction, stating, "I’ve been going for years and have enjoyed the food and customer service!" This positive feedback indicates that many customers have had positive experiences with the food quality and the way they were treated. The reviewer specifically highlights the "beef and broccoli" as a dish they "really like" and offers a general recommendation for the restaurant.
However, a more critical review details significant issues with a recent order. This customer ordered the "Shrimp Egg Foo Young combo" and reported finding "bits and pieces of egg shells" in the patties. They also mentioned experiencing this issue in previous orders of the same dish, leading to a negative impact on their overall meal experience. Furthermore, this reviewer found the "shrimp egg roll was soaked in grease," indicating a potential problem with the preparation of this particular item. Consequently, this customer stated they would not be ordering these items again.
These contrasting reviews highlight the importance of considering individual experiences when evaluating a restaurant. While one customer has enjoyed years of positive experiences, another encountered significant quality issues with specific dishes. This suggests that the consistency of food preparation might be an area where experiences can vary.
Promotional information is not available in the provided text. Local users interested in any special offers, discounts, or new menu items at Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant should contact the restaurant directly. Inquiring about daily specials or any ongoing promotions when placing an order or visiting the restaurant might provide information on how to get the best value.
For local users in Newport News seeking a Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant at 310 Oyster Point Rd offers a convenient location and a menu of Chinese dishes. The feedback from customers suggests that while some have had consistently positive experiences with the food and service over the years, others have encountered issues with the quality and preparation of specific items. It is advisable for potential customers to consider these varying perspectives.
In conclusion, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant has served the Newport News community for a number of years, with some customers expressing long-term satisfaction with their food and service. However, recent feedback indicates potential inconsistencies in food preparation, particularly concerning the presence of eggshells in the Shrimp Egg Foo Young and excessive grease in the shrimp egg roll. Local users may want to weigh these experiences when deciding whether to patronize this establishment. Contacting the restaurant directly for more information about their menu and current quality control measures might be beneficial before placing an order or visiting.
For those in the Oyster Point Road area of Newport News looking for Chinese cuisine, Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant is an option to consider. However, given the mixed reviews regarding food quality, particularly the recent negative experience, it may be prudent to inquire about the preparation of specific dishes when ordering. The positive long-term review suggests that satisfying meals are indeed possible, but the more recent negative feedback warrants caution and perhaps direct communication with the restaurant to ensure a positive dining experience.

I ordered the Shrimp Egg Foo Young combo and as I starting eating the patty's I bit into bits and pieces of egg shells. I've ordered this before and I have experienced the same thing. It ruined the whole entire combo. Also, the shrimp egg roll was soaked in grease. I won't be ordering this again....smh.
I’ve been going for years and have enjoyed the food and customer service! The dishes come out in a timely manner and I’ve really like the meals I’ve had here, specifically the beef and broccoli. I recommend!!
good food and service! will definitely come back, it’s rare to see Chinese restaurants like these around nowadays. i know their food is authentic! i always get the shrimp and broccoli, so good.
OMG, I used to love chinese food but not after today. We dined in this evening, the food was good until I saw a baby cockroach in my lo mein. It made me feel sick to my stomach since I ate 3/4 of the way. My wife took the food back to the cashier/manager and said their a bug in our food. He took the lo mein and dump it away fast without asking us nor appologizing. I felt gross and ran to the restroom then puked. My wife ran after and checked on me to see that I was ok, but the cashier/manager didn't seem to care. After a while, I came out of the restroom, faced the manager and said all I want is to have some good food, what you have done there was not sanitary. All he replied back was "It was never happen before." I can refund you $12.50, but we spend about $40 of food. Not even a formal APPOLOGY nor saying my bad or say sorry about what happen. What more important to me, it is all about respect the customers, he should have responsed back to me with an appology, not about the stupid refunding the money and tried to keep it it cool. If I was not calm at that moment, I could have taken picture of the baby cockroach in my lo mein, and post it all over the internet, then reported them already to the environmental health department (EHD). I am not upset, I just felt disappointed that how the cashier/manager of this place responsed to me just so normal like nothing happen, no shock nor surprise to him. I am writting this message just hope the message could reach out to owner, and hope the owner could look into his or her restaurant. This Hong Kong Chinese restaurant on Oyter Point, in Newport News, needs improve the cleanliness and carefully prep the food safe for everyone to eat, and most important, to re-train the staffs treat customer with care and respect. I have fath in you, change it, improve it, treat customer with respect, don't give it a bad name or bad reputation. B.K.
Most of the time this place is decent. This time it was horrible. We usually don't come here later in the day and I won't ever again. The food was horrible. The orange chicken tasted like it was cooked earlier in the day. The chicken fried rice was rubbery and flavorless. My cheese wontons were old like they were cooked yesterday. It will be a long time before I tried them again. I'll probably come around lunch time.
