About Hong Kong Cafe

Welcome to Hong Kong Cafe, a Chinese restaurant located at 7200 Regional St in Dublin, California, at the heart of the Tri-Valley area. This establishment aims to bring the flavors and ambiance of a traditional Hong Kong cafe to the local community. Based on recent customer reviews, Hong Kong Cafe offers a generally positive dining experience, characterized by a pleasant atmosphere, attentive service, and a diverse menu of Hong Kong-style cuisine. However, potential diners should also be aware of certain aspects, such as the absence of specials and potentially higher prices compared to typical Hong Kong cafes.

As a Chinese restaurant specializing in the Hong Kong cafe style, Hong Kong Cafe offers a menu that extends beyond typical Chinese restaurant fare, often incorporating influences from Western cuisine and featuring unique Hong Kong-style dishes and beverages. One reviewer who visited for lunch on a Saturday noted the extensive nature of the menu and praised the quality of several dishes, including shrimp chow fun, baked pork chop rice, milk tea, and chicken wings, describing them as "delicious." This suggests that the kitchen at Hong Kong Cafe is capable of producing well-received versions of popular Hong Kong-style favorites.

The environment of Hong Kong Cafe is described positively by multiple reviewers. One first-time visitor found the "atmosphere was lovely" and the "decor was cute." Another patron who visited during tea time/happy hour mentioned that the interior is "very roomy and clean" with a "modern / old classic" aesthetic, creating a "nice place to hang out" when it's not too busy. These descriptions suggest that Hong Kong Cafe provides a comfortable and visually appealing setting for its customers, whether they are visiting for a meal or a casual get-together.

The service at Hong Kong Cafe has also been commended. The first-time visitor described the waiters as "very friendly and attentive," contributing to a positive overall experience. While the second reviewer did not explicitly comment on the service during their quieter visit, the positive mention of friendly and attentive waiters indicates a focus on customer care at Hong Kong Cafe.

A notable feature of Hong Kong Cafe, as highlighted by one reviewer, is its convenient location "in the heart of the tri-valley area." This accessibility makes it a potentially attractive dining option for residents and visitors in the region. The same reviewer also mentioned that the prices are "fair," although a subsequent reviewer noted that their prices are "on the higher side" compared to typical Hong Kong cafes. This discrepancy suggests that while the initial experience found the pricing reasonable for the quality and location, others might perceive it as slightly more expensive.

Another point to consider is the potential for wait times, especially during peak hours. The first reviewer who visited for lunch on a Saturday at around 12:30 pm had to wait for about 20-25 minutes, indicating that Hong Kong Cafe can get busy, particularly during weekend lunch periods. This popularity likely reflects the positive experiences of other diners and the appeal of its offerings.

One reviewer who visited during tea time/happy hour specifically noted that Hong Kong Cafe does not offer any specials during these times, with only the "straight up standard menu items" being available. This is in contrast to many traditional Hong Kong cafes that often feature lunch specials and tea time specials. This lack of specials might contribute to the perception of higher prices, as customers may not have access to discounted options during off-peak hours.

Despite the absence of specials, the second reviewer found the food to be "not bad" and the milk tea to be "on par with other HK cafe types." They also mentioned that the dish they had was "not bad and is on par," suggesting a decent quality of food that aligns with typical Hong Kong cafe standards. This reviewer also expressed a willingness to return to "try out other dishes on their menu," indicating a belief in the potential of Hong Kong Cafe's culinary offerings.

The menu at Hong Kong Cafe is described by one reviewer as leaning "more of a restaurant items than cafe items," suggesting a broader range of dishes that might go beyond the typical quick bites and drinks found in some Hong Kong cafes. The reviewer suggested that the restaurant could explore and tailor its menu further to match the expectations of a Hong Kong cafe, potentially by incorporating more of the classic, lighter fare often associated with this style of eatery.

The food was of good quality, and the menu was extensive. We ordered shrimp chow fun, baked pork chop rice, milk tea, and chicken wings, and everything was delicious. I came in on tea time / happy hour. They don't have specials at all. Straight up standard menu items. Food is not bad and their milk tea is on par with other HK cafe types. The interior is very roomy and clean. It's modern / old classic and is nice place to hang out if it doesn't get busy. It was pretty quiet when I was there. Surprised there aren't any customers which they should and probably no one knows about this place yet. Would suggest they do one lunch specials and tea time specials menu like how HK cafes are. The dish I had is not bad and is on par. It's worth going back to try out other dishes on their menu. Looking at their menu, it's more of a restaurant items than cafe items. Perhaps they can explore and see what other HK cafes menus servers and taylor more towards those items to match what they are trying to be. Their prices are on the higher side. Overall, it's worth trying it out.

We have been there around 10 times and the quality is pretty consistent. They have a lot of vegetarian dishes and can actually customize some veggie dishes. We even order party trays for some events. Would highly recommend.

Would have given an extra star if service was more attentive. We could never get their attention, always looking down and not walking around to check on tables. For the 5 of us, we ordered popcorn chicken, Peking pork ribs, fish and tofu claypot, bittermelon and spareribs, mapo tofu, and tomato beef crispy noodles. All dishes were very tasty and flavorful. We had a fair amount leftovers to take home. Might come back if they are more staffed, otherwise I’ll likely do takeout.

This is a Sunday afternoon, we came to this restaurant after shopping nearby. The atmosphere is pretty full of different places names in Hong Kong. The rainbow wall reminds me the days back in Hong Kong while waiting at MTR stations. For the food, I ordered French toast and pork bun. Cold milk tea for sure match the bun just like a classic afternoon tea set. Milk tea tasted original, not too good nor too bad. If the cellphone and TV signals were better in this restaurant, I will come and eat more often. Recommend this restaurant for Hong Kong food!
