About Hong Kong Cafe

Located at 17850 Hesperian Blvd in San Lorenzo, CA, Hong Kong Cafe presents itself as a noteworthy establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category. Despite initial impressions from the exterior, which one reviewer described as having "cluttered and unclean" windows and entrance area, the interior of Hong Kong Cafe offers a surprising contrast. Customers have found the inside to be "modern, clean, and well-designed," creating an unexpectedly pleasant dining environment. This positive revelation about the interior suggests that local users who might have been hesitant due to the outside appearance could be pleasantly surprised by the welcoming ambiance within.

Hong Kong Cafe distinguishes itself through its extensive menu, which goes beyond traditional Chinese fare. According to customer feedback, the menu features a wide variety of dishes, including "fusion options similar to what you’d find at a leisure café" alongside authentic "traditional Hong Kong-style dishes." This diverse offering means that diners can explore a range of culinary styles, potentially catering to different preferences within a group. However, one reviewer noted that the sheer variety might lead to inconsistencies in quality across all dishes, suggesting that some items are exceptionally well-executed while others might not meet the same standards. This is an important point for local users to consider when making their menu selections.

Based on customer experiences, some of the standout dishes at Hong Kong Cafe include the Stir-fried Beef with Ginger, Onion, and Green Onion, which was described as "excellent." The Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs also received high praise, being referred to as "delicious." These positive reviews highlight the restaurant's ability to deliver flavorful and well-prepared versions of popular dishes. For those looking for lighter options or accompaniments, the Garlic Romaine was noted as a good choice, and the Salted Egg Fried Mushroom was particularly commended as "especially good and tasty." Another interesting and well-received item was the Omelette Fried Rice, suggesting a creative and satisfying take on a classic dish.

However, not all dishes received the same level of enthusiasm. One reviewer found the Seafood Soup to be "far too watery" and the Baked Meat Sauce Spaghetti to be "disappointing." This feedback suggests that while Hong Kong Cafe excels in certain areas, there might be some inconsistencies in the quality of their more fusion-oriented or perhaps less traditional offerings. The reviewer's suggestion that the restaurant should "focus on their specialties and narrow down the menu a bit to refine what they’re best at" could be valuable insight for potential diners.

In terms of service, customer feedback indicates a generally positive experience. One reviewer who typically opts for takeout decided to dine in for a quick lunch and found the service to be "prompt and friendly." This suggests that whether you choose to eat at the restaurant or take your food to go, you can expect efficient and courteous service. The fact that the place was "quite busy during a weekday" indicates its popularity among locals, further reinforcing its position as a notable Chinese restaurant in the area.

Regarding the practical aspects of visiting Hong Kong Cafe, one reviewer mentioned that despite the weekday crowd, "parking was not too bad in the lot in front." This is a significant convenience for local users who plan to drive to the restaurant. The bright and clean interior, as noted by a customer who dined in, adds to the overall positive experience, especially contrasting with the initial concerns about the exterior.

For local users in San Lorenzo and the surrounding areas, Hong Kong Cafe offers a diverse culinary experience with a blend of traditional Hong Kong-style dishes and fusion options. While some dishes have received exceptional praise, others have been less impressive, suggesting that diners might want to focus on the more traditional Hong Kong fare based on the positive reviews. The modern and clean interior provides a welcoming atmosphere for dining in, and the prompt and friendly service enhances the overall experience. The availability of takeout further adds to its convenience for those who prefer to enjoy their meals at home.

To explore the menu and experience Hong Kong Cafe for themselves, local users can visit the restaurant at its Hesperian Boulevard location. I’ve often visited Vietnamese restaurants around this area but never tried this one before. The main reason was that, from the outside, the windows and the area around the entrance looked cluttered and unclean. However, today, I found out my usual Vietnamese spot was closed, and since I was already hungry, I decided to give this place a shot. To my surprise, the interior was modern, clean, and well-designed, which was quite unexpected. Once I got the menu, I was amazed by the sheer variety of dishes. It featured not only fusion options similar to what you’d find at a leisure café but also traditional Hong Kong-style dishes. There were so many choices that I spent a long time deciding what to order. I ended up trying the stir-fried beef with ginger, onion, and green onion, which was excellent, as were the sweet and sour spare ribs. However, the seafood soup was far too watery, and the baked meat sauce spaghetti was disappointing. It seems like they’re trying to offer too many options, which might be diluting their quality. I think they should focus on their specialties and narrow down the menu a bit to refine what they’re best at. Still, the sweet and sour pork spare ribs and the stir-fried beef were so delicious that I’ll definitely come back again.

Always loved taking food to go from here but this time stopped in for a quick lunch. Place was quite busy during a weekday but parking was not too bad in the lot in front. Got the omelette fried rice, garlic romaine, and the salted egg fried mushroom. The latter was especially good and tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. And the place was bright and clean. Will come back again when I’m in the area.

Service was very attentive as soon as we walked in. They have a great happy hour menu from 2:30pm-6pm. We got a bowl of brisket noodle soup for $4.25. You can't beat that price. The meat was super tender and tasty. The noodle was really nice. The broth was really clear. Also got the brocolli and oyster sauce for $4.65. It came out quite nice and crunchy and the amount was quite substantial eventhough it was the happy hour amount. Since I was really hungry, I also order the salt and pepper chicken wings for $4.25. It was not oily and the spices were just perfect. It tasted so good. Next time I will need to order two plates of the wings...The chef here really knows his stuff. Plus, the place is really clean. Would definitely go back next time I am in the area.

Not bad overall. Parking maybe an issue. There are a lot of varieties to choose from. Food is ok, but the quantity is good.
