Hometown Restaurant

This restaurant has a good variety of authentic Chinese dishes. We got the braised pork ($14.95), lamb casserole ($14.95), and eggplant ($9.95). For the price, I have to say I was impressed! The braised pork had mostly really tender pieces and great flavor. The lamb casserole had a strong lamb flavor and delicious noodles in it! I thought the lamb pieces were kind of tough. The eggplant was delicious. We asked for less spicy, and it was perfect.

Quick service. Food came almost immediately after the server took the order. All the dishes were very delicious!

This place must be popular among the locals. We went around 545 pm on a Tuesday. ppl started packing in the place around 6. Waitress didn't speak much English. But got all our orders right. Prompt service. Not rude like how ppl mentioned in other reviews. Each main dish is about 11-15 dollars, which is WAYYY cheaper than other equivalent Chinese places in irvine. Good portion size as well. Food tasted great. We ordered spicy fried chicken, sesame pancake, and beef noodle soup. Beef noodles soup was average (slightly below A&J). But fried chicken and sesame pancakes were GREAT. Would definitely come back. >>>>>> I went back 4 weeks after my first visit. It was definitely still really good. We ordered Mapa tofu, sesame bread, and seschuwan fish filet soup, and they were all amazing. It's a shame that they only have 3.some stars on yelp. I'd give this place 5 stars any day.

Update 2024/07: still our absolute favorite Chinese restaurant in Irvine, consistent and never a miss. This is one of the better authentic Chinese restaurant in Irvine, we love the food, service and environment. If you were looking for some down to the earth regular people authentic Chinese food, this is the place to go. Environment is surprisingly clean and quite consider they located in one of the “older” plaza. We order three entrees and one soup, amazing portion at the given price point! And you can even get some exotic dish like fried pork bun (a Shanghai tradition).

1st Time at This Restaurant; Invited by My BMWMBZ-Mechanic, & WE Ordered 7-Different Dishes, Soup, Vegetables, Several-Pork, Lamb, Steamed-Fish, & ALL Were VERY Tasty ! I Highly Recommend for YOU to Try it !
