I purchased some food 1/3/2025 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon chicken lo mein and veggie egg-rolls. I have been sick for 24 hours. It was the worst food I ever tasted. My stomach is still hurting right now while I’m writing this text.

I ordered food through Uber eats and was totally disappointed. Not with Uber but with this restaurant. The Mongolian beef had jalapeño pepper slices added instead of the traditional small red peppers. The dish was Horrible. The sweet and sour shrimp had so much breading on them which was over cooked. After peeling off the breading, all of the shrimp was shriveled, dried out small pieces. The combination fried rice I had to tolerate because I was hungry and needed to eat something after a hard day’s work. I’d rate it a 2/10. The only thing that was good was the crab Rangoon and the bottle of sweet and sour sauce I ordered to keep in my house. Terribly disappointing. Would never eat or order from there ever nor will I recommend this place.

They are a neighborhood Icon. I've been a customer since 1976. I placed an order for vegetable fried rice with tomatoes. At that time, they didn't have vegetarian dishes on their menu and didn't want to fix the order. They did accommodate me and fixed the rice with NO MEAT or MSG. It was So Good. They have a new management and cooks. Their food is not as good , but it is okay that why I give the 3 star rating

The whole chicken wings are delicious. Shrimp egg rolls are so good. I didn't like the "scallops" that were really imitation. Overall it's a go to place. Revised review!! I hate to say anything negative about Hoe Toy but something is not right. They gave out some extremely gross "food" today. First time I ever received a nasty meal from here. Hopefully they can correct themselves soon.

Has been my family and I go to since inception. Back some years ago they went under new management and the culture of Hoe Toy changed. The old management including the front line order takers and cooks in the back, all knew the customers. Truthfully what made Hoe Toy special was that it was all community members. And on a Friday and Saturday night, the line would be out the door and you could smell delicious Chinese food all along Stony Island. In preset day, Hoe Toy is only memories as I no longer reside in the state. The food remains consistent, especially the fried rice. Service is questionable. The guy at the front is hit or miss, which again, most of the customers have been coming here for decades you know who we are!
