Ho Wah Intro
Ho Wah is a Chinese restaurant located at 551 Gates Ave in Brooklyn, New York, specializing in takeout meals for the local community. Based on customer reviews, Ho Wah is considered a reliable option for Chinese takeout, with many consistently ordering from here, particularly on game nights.
A frequently mentioned positive aspect is the generous portion sizes, especially for dishes like the beef chow mei fun. The scallion pancake is highlighted as a standout item, praised for its perfect frying technique that results in a crunchy exterior and a chewy, soft interior.
Another highly recommended dish is the Chinese Vegetables Stir Fry with Tofu, described as both delicious and nutritious. One reviewer suggests that Ho Wah's food may contain less sodium compared to other Chinese takeout options they have tried, as they do not feel the need to drink a lot of water after eating it. The reviewer found this to be a significant positive.
The lady who takes orders is noted to be really hard working. For local users seeking a dependable Chinese takeout with generous portions and flavorful dishes, including a noteworthy scallion pancake and a potentially lower-sodium vegetable and tofu option, Ho Wah is a place to consider. They can be contacted at (718) 399-0110 or +1 718-399-0110 to place an order.

Reliable Chinese takeout. We always order here on game nights. The lady who takes the orders seems really hard working and they pack the beef chow mei fun. The standout for us is the scallion pancake. Fried really nicely so the outside is crunchy but the inside is still chewy and soft
Chinese Vegetables Stir Fry with Tofu. Just get it. It’s delicious and nutritious. My take is that food prepared by Ho Wah has the least sodium of all the other Chinese take out venues I have come across. I do not need to sink a glass of water after eating food prepared by Ho Wah. That good. Enjoy!
It's just good takeout. I can't recommend the dumplings as they were really wet (?) but everything else on the menu was really good. If you order pickup expect to wait a minute but the wait is worth it. I really enjoyed the seafood fry and I think that the overall experience was really good. Just practice a little patience and the result will be good!
All the chow fun pieces were melted together like an msg pancake of mush.
Terrible. We ordered take out for 12. The beef and vegetables were bland, mushy and overcooked (beef was grey). The moo shu was equally bland (thank god for extra plum sauce) and the pancakes were old and stiff. The potstickers were cakey and undercooked. The lo mein was tasteless, lacked any substantive additions of the chicken or vegetables we ordered and looked like they used vermicelli noodles not lo mein noodles. With the exception of the white rice and egg rolls - we ended up throwing out the majority of the food. It’s difficult to understand how this restaurant could garner 4 & 5 star ratings for its food. There was truly nothing flattering that can be said of their cuisine which is unfortunate.
