About HK Cafe

Welcome to HK Cafe, a Chinese restaurant located at 4410 SE 82nd Ave in Portland, Oregon. As a local establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, HK Cafe offers a wide selection of authentic dim sum and Cantonese cuisine, providing a taste of Hong Kong right here in Portland. You can contact us at (503) 771-8866 or via mobile at +1 503-771-8866 for inquiries or to place an order for takeout.

Based on customer reviews, HK Cafe is a popular spot, especially on weekends. One reviewer who visited on a Sunday around lunchtime noted that there might be a wait time for a table, particularly for larger groups. Their party of nine waited between 15 to 20 minutes to be seated, while smaller parties might experience shorter wait times. This suggests that HK Cafe is well-regarded and can get busy, indicating its popularity within the local community.

A significant feature of HK Cafe that sets it apart is the presence of a balloon artist in the restaurant. According to a delighted customer, the balloon artist provides free balloons to patrons and does a "great job." This family-friendly amenity adds a unique and enjoyable element to the dining experience, especially for those with children, who can receive balloon creations like swords, shields, and even hats. While the balloons are complimentary, the reviewer wisely suggests that tipping the balloon artist for their time and effort is appropriate.

The primary offering at HK Cafe is its dim sum, which has been generally well-received by customers. One reviewer described the dim sum food as "overall, good!" and noted that the cost is comparable to other dim sum restaurants in the area. They also mentioned that the variety of food selections is similar to what one might find at other dim sum establishments, suggesting a standard yet satisfying range of classic dim sum dishes.

Another reviewer corroborated the positive feedback on the food, stating that "the dimsum and the food is generally good and authentic." This reinforces the idea that HK Cafe provides a genuine taste of Cantonese cuisine, particularly its dim sum offerings, which are a staple of this culinary tradition.

However, not all aspects of the dining experience at HK Cafe have been uniformly positive. One reviewer recounted a negative encounter with a specific waiter (an older man) during their first dine-in experience (they had previously ordered takeout). They described the service as "poor" due to this individual's behavior, which included rudely dismissing a question about a soup pictured on the menu and observed unsanitary actions such as picking his nose and teeth at the counter, followed by serving food with bare hands. This serious complaint highlights a significant issue that potential customers should be aware of and suggests that the restaurant management needs to address these service and hygiene concerns urgently.

In terms of the environment, one reviewer mentioned that parking can be "challenging" if you arrive late, suggesting that the parking lot might get crowded. However, they also clarified that parking in the lots is free. The location of HK Cafe is also convenient, with other restaurants and stores nearby, making it accessible within a commercial area.

The services at HK Cafe include both dine-in and takeout options. As mentioned, the wait times for dine-in can vary depending on the party size and the time of day, with longer waits expected for larger groups, especially during peak hours. The presence of a balloon artist is a unique service that enhances the dine-in experience, particularly for families. However, the negative service experience reported by one reviewer indicates a potential inconsistency in the staff's professionalism and hygiene practices.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews, such as discounts, special offers, or loyalty programs. To learn about any such promotions or daily specials at HK Cafe, it would be best to contact them directly at (503) 771-8866 or +1 503-771-8866. They can provide the most up-to-date information on their menu and any ongoing offers that might be of interest to local users.

In conclusion, HK Cafe in Portland, Oregon, is a Chinese restaurant that specializes in authentic dim sum and Cantonese cuisine. It is a popular spot that can get busy, especially on weekends, so expect a potential wait for a table. A unique feature is the presence of a balloon artist who provides free balloon creations, making it family-friendly. While the food, particularly the dim sum, is generally well-regarded as good and authentic, there have been significant concerns raised about the unprofessional and unsanitary behavior of at least one waiter. Potential customers should be aware of this issue. Parking can be challenging during peak times but is free in the lots. For the most current information on their menu and any promotions, please contact HK Cafe directly.

12/22/24 Sunday at 11:30 am. It was my first time at HK Cafe. Overall, I'd definitely go again 😊🀩 The wait time for the table depends on how many people are with you. I had a party of 9, so my wait time was a little longer than those who had a party of 2 or 4. I waited 15-20 mins before we were seated. The dim sum food was overall, good! The cost is about the same as other Dim Sum restaurants. The food selections, I would say... they have almost the same to similar items. There's a balloon artist at the restaurant! The balloons are free. However, for his time and efforts, he definitely deserves a tip! He did a great job! My kiddos got a ballon sword and shield and a reindeer ballon hat!πŸ₯° Parking can be challenging if you go late. You may need to park further. Parking is free on the lots. There are other restaurants and stores nearby. Overall, do expect to wait to be seated. Check in with the hostess, and they will call your number. Come with an empty stomach and be ready to eat! πŸ˜‹πŸ€€πŸ½

The dimsum and the food is generally good and authentic. The service is poor specifically because of that one person, waiter (Older man) who was serving our meal at the time. We've had take-outs here before but this was our first time for dine-in. It was a Sunday evening, it wasn't very busy. First, I asked what soup was that on the picture, it looks good and I wanted to order it. He kind of yelled at me and said, " don't look at the pictures, just look at the writings". I wanted the one in the picture, but he seemed like he was getting impatient with me, so I just had to guess which one I want. Second, when this waiter was at the counter, so visible from our table, he was picking his nose (not just once but twice, Yikes!). Then we also saw him picking at his teeth! Go to the bathroom, please! Then he came over serving our dinner with Bare hands. Geez. This inappropriate behavior needs to be addressed by his supervisor ASAP. It's too gross and unsanitary to see at a restaurant. It should not be something we expect at somewhat nice restaurant. Now I feel like IF we go back, I'll have to look around first who's going to serve us. It's so gross, and you just can't make that stuff up!

Arguably the best dim sum in the portland area - mostly the standard dishes but all done well. Expect to wait, but the food is worth it. Service is better than the standard dim sum restaurant.

Took my family here for a more casual birthday dinner, as I have been here before, and safe to say everyone loved it. Which can be hard to do with multiple people. The waiters here are incredibly attentive and kind, read the order back to make sure, are great with refilling, and give tasty complimentary tea. The food always comes out exceptionally quickly, minutes after we order, and never tastes premade, always so fresh and crispy. Every dish was delicious and portions are fair for the price, for 5 people it was 128 excluding the tip for 8 varying mainly main course dishes, with plenty left over to split between everyone. Came out to be about 25 something dollars per person, which is super reasonable compared to buffet rising prices with lower quality food. My family mentioned they would be back here again, which they rarely say. Would definitely recommend anyone to come here. For sure in the top 5 best restaurants in Portland.Thank you. :)

Freshly cook entrees are 9/10. Definitely recommended the mushroom with soft tofu if that’s your favorite things. Or anything veggies stir fried. Dim sum is 7-8/10 depending on the time you go when stuff is freshly cooked or steamed up for a while. Customer service is great and attentive. Definitely recommended for family and friends dinner so everyone can try out everything together.
