About Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a Chinese restaurant located at 455 South Street in Holyoke, Massachusetts, that has become a favorite among local residents for years. Known for its consistently good food and generous portions, Hibiscus is now piloting an exciting new buffet option.

A standout feature currently being tested is a takeout buffet. This innovative concept allows customers to fill a takeout box to the top for a set price, reportedly around $9 for lunch and $12 for dinner. Despite the initial impression of being limited, customers have found that the boxes can hold a significant amount of food, often providing enough for leftovers. The buffet includes a variety of options, such as seafood and well-cooked meats, with particularly high praise for the juicy chicken wings that have a Korean fried chicken-style coating. Classic Chinese dishes like rice, crab rangoons, and lo mein are also available. The restaurant emphasizes freshness by keeping the buffet batches small and refilling them frequently.

Customers have the choice to eat their meal at the restaurant or take their filled box to go. One reviewer and their partner found the buffet to be a great deal, even comparing the price favorably to the cost of raw ingredients. They expressed hope that the buffet would become a permanent offering due to its positive reception.

Beyond the new buffet, Hibiscus also offers daily specials that are described as being packed full and providing excellent value for money. For those driving, Hibiscus has a small parking lot with free off-street parking, which customers have found to have ample space. The restaurant accepts both cash and card payments, although they do not accept Discover cards.

While described as a "small little place," Hibiscus is noted for its quick service, hot food, and overall good quality. One customer who ordered takeout and waited in their car reported a wait time of about 15 minutes. While they did not try the sushi, they had a very positive experience otherwise. If you're in the Holyoke area and looking for a reliable Chinese restaurant with generous portions, daily specials, and now a unique buffet option, Hibiscus is worth a visit. I've lived Hibiscus for years. When I first moved to Holyoke, I tried all the local places before I landed on this as my favorite. Their daily specials are packed full and have a lot of bang for buck. Most excitingly though is that they're piloting a buffet! The prices were really good. You pay for a take out box that you can fill to the top, which is an interesting concept. I think it was $9 for lunch, $12 for dinner? I was at first bummed about being limited but you can fit a ton - I got dinner and still had enough for leftovers. There was a lot of seafood and really well cooked meats (the chicken wings were so juicy and had that kind of Korean fried chicken coating). They had classics too - rice, crab ragoons, lo mien. They had small batches out which tbh I think is great so they can replace and refill more often to keep it fresh. You can eat there or make your box to go. My partner and I loved it and thought it was a really good deal! You can't even get raw ingredients that cheap! I hope it gains enough traction that it can stay. For those who haven't gone, there's a small parking lot with free off street parking. I've always been able to find a spot with ease. They take cash and card, but note that they don't take Discover.

Just a small little place, but service was quick, food was hot, very good. Didn't make me sick like most do. Got a menu, ordered and waited in the car. Maybe 15 minutes. Not bad at all. I don't do sushi so I can't comment on that.. Otherwise very good.

No to be rude, but it's literally the worst sushi I've ever had. The Chinese food is probably good but you can really tell they put sushi on the menu solely for more business, not because they are good at it. Just don't do it.

GF brought food home from there, teriyaki, house fried rice, chicken fingers, some weird pancake thing and an egg roll, with Duck sauce, every thing was bad, I can't say anything was good not even the Duck sauce, terrible, terrible, terrible!

Definitely better Chinese restaurants in the area. I did try calling the restaurant as requested on 6/24 at 6:50pm, the person I spoke with asked me to call back in 30 min. he did not offer to take down my name or number and put it on me to call back. I do give the owner credit for reaching and offering to make it right, I wish you luck with your business but we will not be returning. The General Tso’s Chicken was dry and tasted like you boxed up leftovers from your buffet, same with the Orange Chicken and the Boneless Spare ribs were completely inedible, they were sour and the meat was tough.
