About Hibachi Buffet

Welcome to Hibachi Buffet, a Chinese restaurant located at 111 E Lake St in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a Chinese buffet, Hibachi Buffet offers an all-you-can-eat dining experience with a focus on providing a wide variety of dishes at an affordable price point. While the name suggests the potential presence of hibachi-style cooking, the reviews primarily focus on the buffet aspect and the overall dining experience.

Based on customer feedback, the environment at Hibachi Buffet might be characterized by functionality over modern aesthetics. One reviewer noted that "the furniture may be a little worn out, but it still performs its functions." This suggests that while the restaurant might not boast the latest decor, it provides a usable and adequate space for diners to enjoy their meals. The primary emphasis seems to be on the food and the value offered.

The service at Hibachi Buffet has received mixed reviews. One long-time customer expressed recent dissatisfaction, stating that waitresses were "pushing me away" after only about 20 minutes, creating an unwelcome feeling and leading to a decision not to return. This raises concerns about the restaurant's current practices regarding table turnover and customer seating time, especially during potentially busy periods. However, another reviewer described the service as "prompt" and the waiters as "very pleasant to deal with," expressing gratitude for their service. This contrasting feedback indicates a potential inconsistency in the service experience, where some customers find it efficient and friendly, while others feel rushed.

A key feature of Hibachi Buffet appears to be its affordability. One reviewer stated that "if your goal is just to eat well for a normal price, then this is the place for you." This suggests that Hibachi Buffet offers a cost-effective option for those looking for a substantial meal without a high price tag. The reviewer also mentioned that "everything is edible" and that they had not encountered any problems during their visits, indicating a generally acceptable standard of food quality for the price.

While specific dishes are not extensively detailed in the provided reviews, Chinese buffets typically offer a wide selection of items, including various meat and vegetable dishes, fried rice, noodles, soups, and appetizers like egg rolls and spring rolls. Given the positive comment about the food being "delicious" and "edible," it can be inferred that Hibachi Buffet provides a satisfactory range of standard Chinese buffet fare. The mention of "hibachi" in the name might suggest a section where food is cooked fresh on a grill, but the reviews do not explicitly confirm this, focusing more on the pre-prepared buffet selections.

The contrasting opinions in the reviews highlight a potential dichotomy in the current state of Hibachi Buffet. While it seems to offer good value with edible and potentially delicious food, there are concerns about the service, particularly regarding the perceived pressure to leave quickly after being seated. This could significantly impact the overall dining experience for some customers, overshadowing the positive aspects of the food and price.

Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotions or special offers at Hibachi Buffet. Buffets often have different pricing for lunch and dinner, as well as potential discounts for children or seniors. To inquire about any current promotions, daily specials, or pricing information at Hibachi Buffet, it is recommended to contact them directly at (612) 825-3099 or +1 612-825-3099. Information about specials might also be available if you visit the restaurant in person.

In conclusion, Hibachi Buffet in Minneapolis offers an affordable option for those seeking a Chinese buffet with a wide variety of edible dishes. While one reviewer praised the prompt and pleasant service, another expressed concern about being rushed by the waitstaff. The restaurant's furniture is described as worn but functional. Potential customers looking for a budget-friendly, all-you-can-eat Chinese meal in the Lake Street area of Minneapolis may find Hibachi Buffet a viable option, but should be aware of the mixed feedback regarding the service and the basic nature of the environment. Contacting the restaurant directly for the most current information on pricing and any promotions is advisable.

That's my favorite buffet for years. But recently, I'm going back, I don't know quiet. The waitress are pushing me away when I've been there like 20 minutes. They want you to leave and I feel like that's not okay. I don't know if anybody else noticed this, but that's what they're doing. I plan not to go back there

if your goal is just to eat well for a normal price, then this is the place for you. They cook deliciously, everything is edible and during the time I've been going there, no problems have happened to me. The service is prompt, it's very pleasant to deal with the waiters. Thanks to them for that. Yes, the furniture may be a little worn out, but it still performs its functions. *If this is important to you, please read the first sentence of the review*.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at [Hibachi Restaurant], and I feel compelled to warn others about their shady pricing practices and terrible customer service. Yesterday, I visited this restaurant and purchased a cream puff. As is their usual process, they weighed the item and charged me $6.36. However, when I returned today to buy the exact same item, the owner suddenly tried to charge me $15—more than double what I paid the day before! When I pointed out the discrepancy and mentioned my previous charge, instead of resolving the issue professionally, the owner got rude and dismissive, blaming his employee for the incorrect pricing. I even told him I wouldn’t mind paying $10, but I wasn’t comfortable with $15 for the same item I bought at a much lower price just the day before. His response? A cold “Take it or leave it.” To make matters worse, another customer behind me was also overcharged for his food and expressed frustration. Rather than addressing the issue, the owner ignored our concerns and basically told us to leave if we didn’t like it. Instead of using the scale (which is the standard method they use to price food), he manually counted my cream puffs one by one, pulled out a calculator, and tried to justify the $15 charge by claiming each one cost $0.70—which still didn’t add up! When I refused to pay an unfair price, he outright kicked me and the other customer out of the restaurant and said we were no longer welcome. And when I mentioned that I would be leaving a review about my experience, he mockingly encouraged me to do so, as if he didn’t care. To make matters even worse, after leaving the restaurant, I went to Aldi and found a 30-piece box of cream puffs for only $5—less than what I originally paid at this restaurant for just a few! That just proves how ridiculously overpriced they are and how they’re trying to rip off customers who don’t know any better. This entire experience was beyond unprofessional. If they are willing to scam customers over something as small as a few sweets, imagine how much they could be overcharging families coming in for full meals! If you plan to eat here, check your receipt carefully and be prepared for a rude, dismissive attitude if you question their pricing. I do not recommend this place at all. Stay away unless you’re okay with being ripped off and treated poorly.

This is really a Chinese food restaurant with a small Mongolian Grill attached, not a true hibachi. That said, there was so much Asian food variety, and the sushi 🍣 was the best I've ever eaten. Lake Street is sketchy at night, but I felt very safe there during the day. I will definitely revisit this charming place!

Tl;dr stay to the fresher items, avoid oily entrees or get a big helping of vegetables, skip the dessert, and ignore the world between your car and the front door. If I were to go again, I'd stick to the fresher items as oil pervades every single fried entree available. The desert items could be colder, especially the baked items which seemed to lack pop and crisp. The atmosphere was rather nice a quiet, plan for conversation, and the service was very quick and compliant, did not ask for further refills after first denial until later requested, the part of town is questionable, I wouldn't go there for anything else, could see multiple people opening looking for jobs in the area, and two people were hanging around the front lobby who shouldn't have been there but were quickly removed when requested.
