About Hengry
Hengry, a Chinese restaurant located at 2718 W Valley Blvd in Alhambra, California, offers a distinctive culinary experience by specializing in the unique and flavorful cuisine of the Guizhou province in China. For local users in Alhambra seeking to explore beyond the more common styles of Chinese cooking, Hengry presents an opportunity to discover new and exciting tastes. Based on recent customer reviews, Hengry is characterized by its unique dishes, attentive service, and a vibrant atmosphere.
One of the standout dishes at Hengry, highly recommended by the manager and praised by a customer, is the "House fried rice." This dish is described as a best seller and is noted for being both hearty and unique, unlike typical stir-fried rice. The reviewer likened it to a "comfort stew," highlighting its rich, savory, and slightly sweet flavors. This positive feedback suggests that the House fried rice is a must-try item for those visiting Hengry, offering a flavorful and substantial meal.
Another notable dish mentioned in the reviews is the "miao soup fish fillets." This dish features tender fish and a naturally tangy broth, which is appreciated for its fresh taste. However, the reviewer also pointed out that the "mujiangzi oil" used in the dish was somewhat overpowering and masked some of the broth's freshness. Additionally, the sour flavor of the soup was considered too light to be distinctly tasted. This feedback provides a nuanced perspective, highlighting both the positive aspects of the dish, such as the tender fish and tangy broth, and areas for potential improvement, like the intensity of the mujiangzi oil and the sourness of the soup.
Beyond these specific dishes, Hengry offers a broader exploration of Guizhou cuisine, as indicated by another reviewer who enjoyed the "miao sour soup," "mushroom dry pot," "braised pork belly," "egg foo yong," and "Chinese lettuce." This suggests a diverse menu with a range of flavorful options. A key characteristic of the food at Hengry, according to this reviewer, is the presence of "unique spice in every dish," indicating that the restaurant offers a distinctive flavor profile that sets it apart from more conventional Chinese restaurants.
The service at Hengry is described as "attentive" by one reviewer, suggesting that the staff is responsive and takes good care of the customers. This positive feedback on service contributes to a pleasant dining experience, ensuring that guests feel well-attended to during their visit.
The environment of Hengry is noted for being "clean and comfortable" by one reviewer, which is essential for a positive dining experience. Additionally, another reviewer describes the interior design as "funky and vibrant," envisioning the restaurant as a potentially "lit hang out spot." This suggests that Hengry offers a visually interesting and energetic atmosphere, which could appeal to a younger demographic or those looking for a more lively dining setting.

House fried rice definitely is my favorite! The manager recommends it as one of the best seller, and it’s was hearty and unique — like a cross between stir-fried rice and a comfort stew, full of rich, savory, and slightly sweet flavors. The miao soup fish fillets with tender fish and a naturally tangy broth. That said, the mujiangzi oil was overpowering and masked a bit of the broth’s freshness, also the sour flavor is too light to taste. The service was attentive, and the space was clean and comfortable.
Unique and yummy guizhou cuisine! We had the miao sour soup, mushroom dry pot, braised pork belly, egg foo yong, and Chinese lettuce. There’s unique spice in every dishes. Interior design is funky and vibrant, I can see it being a lit hang out spot.
