About Heng Ji (恒记)

Welcome to Heng Ji (恒记), a Chinese restaurant located at 428 Market St, Lewisburg, PA 17837, USA. Heng Ji offers a variety of Chinese dishes, including hot pot, spring rolls, dumplings, and fried rice, as well as boba tea. Based on recent customer feedback, experiences at Heng Ji appear to be varied, with some praising the food and boba while others have raised significant concerns regarding service, cleanliness, and food quality. You can contact the restaurant at (814) 777-7166 or +1 814-777-7166.

The environment at Heng Ji (恒记) has received mixed reviews. One customer described the decor as "minimalist" and almost "hipster," noting that there isn't a lot of decoration. This suggests a simple and perhaps modern aesthetic. However, another customer reported issues with cleanliness upon arrival, stating that the tables were dirty with leftover food from previous customers. The table was only partially wiped down and not thoroughly cleaned. This discrepancy in descriptions suggests that the environment might be perceived differently by various patrons, or that cleanliness standards may vary.

Services at Heng Ji (恒记) include dine-in and potentially takeout, although takeout was not explicitly mentioned in the negative review. One positive review noted that while order-ahead service might not be available, the food is prepared quickly. However, a significant concern raised by one customer was the extremely slow service experienced during their visit. This suggests that the efficiency of the service might be inconsistent. Additionally, there was a report of a language barrier with some staff members, although they were described as kind. Another service issue reported was the unavailability of most tea options, with only canned soda available for purchase at $2 a can on a Friday night at 7:00 PM, which one customer found unprepared for a typical busy evening. The ordering process was also confusing for one customer due to a scan-to-order system followed by a menu presented entirely in Chinese.

The food quality and preparation at Heng Ji (恒记) have also received contrasting feedback. One customer expressed strong dissatisfaction with several dishes. They "strongly" did not recommend the hot pot, especially the vegetarian version, and found the spring rolls to be comparable to frozen grocery store options. The tomato base for the vegetarian hot pot was described as watery and flavorless, with an overall lack of flavor in the food. A particularly alarming issue was the handling of food by a staff member during the hot pot experience, including using bare hands to pick up noodles that had fallen onto the table and placing them back on the plate, as well as picking up customer's food and putting it into the boiling water without being asked. This raises significant hygiene concerns. In contrast, another customer "absolutely loved" the food, describing it as "super flavorful" and "very fresh" with "no fake meat." They specifically praised the pineapple fried rice with chicken and the crème brûlée boba milk tea, noting the generous portion sizes and quick preparation. This stark difference in opinions suggests a potential inconsistency in food quality or significant variations in the dishes ordered.

Features of Heng Ji (恒记) mentioned by customers include the availability of hot pot, which one reviewer strongly disliked but is still a notable offering. Spring rolls and dumplings are also on the menu. The positive reviewer highlighted the flavorful and fresh food, particularly the pineapple fried rice and boba tea. The generous portion sizes were also mentioned as a positive feature, with one meal being enough for three servings. The "minimalist" or "hipster" decor, while not a food-related feature, was noted by one customer as part of the restaurant's ambiance. However, the negative review pointed out several undesirable features, including dirty tables, slow service, potential hygiene issues with food handling, limited drink options, a confusing ordering process with a Chinese-only menu, and inconsistencies in pricing (a price increase after ordering). The discrepancy in experiences makes it difficult to pinpoint consistent positive features.

In conclusion, Heng Ji (恒记) in Lewisburg, PA, is a Chinese restaurant that offers a variety of dishes including hot pot and boba tea. However, recent customer reviews present a wide range of experiences. While one customer praised the flavorful and fresh food, generous portions, and quick service, another reported significant issues with cleanliness, extremely slow service, unhygienic food handling, incorrect orders, limited drink options, a confusing ordering process, and potential overcharging. These contrasting experiences suggest that potential customers should be aware of the reported issues and might want to inquire further about the restaurant's current standards and practices before visiting. To start when we got there the tables were dirty but we were sat at the table anyway there was food from the previous customers on the table that she quickly wiped off but by no means clean the table. And she only wiped off half the table so that left the rest of the table dirty.. We ordered the hot pot which I strongly do not recommend especially the vegetarian one. We also ordered spring rolls and dumplings. The service was ridiculously slow. When she brought out the spring rolls they were pretty much the same thing you would get by going to the freezer section at weis's. When the hot pot came out she kept playing in our food. The worst part was the noodles were overflowing the plate. They come out on these plates that are like 8-in plates. The noodles were touching the table and she was using her bare hands to pick them up and put them back on the plate. Then as we were eating and putting stuff in our boiling water she was coming back and picking up our food and throwing it in the hot pot she wouldn't stop playing with our food. There was nothing at all to drink as far as their tees they were out of everything other than cans of soda for $2 a can. This was on a Friday night at 7:00 p.m. so you would expect that a restaurant would be prepared to have everything on their menu available on a Friday evening. When we originally got there there's a scan thing to do your order that's what we were doing Then she comes to take her order and the menu that she showing us is all in Chinese so that was 100% not helpful. when she first said about the hot pot she it was $39 then after we ordered she comes back out and says it's 49. She added a tip on the bill that was not seen because you do not get any itemized tip but the bill came out more than it should have. When she asked us how the food was it was obvious I hadn't eaten any of it and I just kind of shook my head no and she said that kills me and she was her. Well the food was lousy. The tomato base for the vegetarian must have been nothing more than water with slices of tomatoes thrown into it because it definitely had no kind of base or flavor. Nothing had any flavor. We will not be going back. Not after she plays with your food while you're trying to do it yourself, overcharges I think she added her own tip, and gives you a dirty table and touches your food with her bare hands picking it up off of a dirty table. It definitely was not worth $80.

I absolutely love their food and boba! It’s super flavorful and tastes very fresh. No fake meat. Today I got a pineapple fried rice with chicken instead of shrimp and a crème brûlée boba milk tea for $21 but this will feed me for 3 meals honestly! It’s a lot of food! Both are delicious and while they may not have the ability for order ahead yet they get their food out fast. There is a bit of a language barrier with some of the staff but they are all kind. They don’t have a ton of decor yet but honestly I don’t mind the minimalist feel the place gives off. It’s almost hipster in a way. Overall definitely would recommend and I will be back for many more meals!

Found out about Heng Ji from word of mouth. Went in for drinks a few times and liked them all! Favorite is the Sparkling Peachy Strawberry Tea but ALL have been good! I highly recommend this place. I hope they put a sign out front of their business so new patrons can find it easier! Have not tried the hot pot yet, but it sounds great and I’ve been hearing good things. Will be back!

By far THE best restaurant in Lewisburg, and the only authentic Chinese restaurant in the area. The owner is very friendly and listened to our suggestion of including more vegetarian options on the menu, which we really appreciate. Prices are great, the portions are generous and have just the right amount of flavor. Our favorite dish is the fried rice - so many Chinese restaurants add a truckload of sauce to their fried rice, and it’s fantastic to finally eat at a restaurant that tastes like home - affordable, healthy, AND tasty. 100% worth the trip to Lewisburg.
