They have the best lunch deal in the city. For $17 you get an appetizer, an entree and a drink. I'd recommend the hay hay deluxe trio - the cha siu (roasted pork) was delicious and the portions were generous. For appetizers, I was happy they offered the fried mini buns and they were very authentic. The fried dumplings were good too and the cucumber dish was refreshing if you want something lighter. Hay hay roasted is a great addition to east village.

Came here for dinner with my bestie and the portions were perfect for solo dining or to eat with your friends/family. The service was 10/10 - our server was so friendly and nice. Food came out in a timely matter. We loved everything we got. Our favorite were the fried mini milk buns (must get!!!) the wonton soup was so tasty and meaty. we loved the two selections where we chose scallion chicken & roast duck, and then other plate for the brine cuttlefish and crispy pork. The cold appetizers were so good especially the pig trotters (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!) We tried the sesame and coconut puddings which were so good and not too sweet but perfect to end your meal. It’s even better when you mix them together! Definitely recommend coming here!!

TLDR: Pass! Most things were mediocre here. I can see why they needed the Instagram hype. I keep seeing this place show up on Instagram. So my friend and I decided to give it a try. We were lured in by the free birthday meal promotion. The space was cute with the red lantern lights and our server was so sweet. FYI 2 steps at the entrance so not accessible for mobility challenged folks. The Good: Garlic lover chicken wings 5/5- best item we tried. It was crispy and flavorful, could've used more garlic. Spicy brisket with bok choy with white rice 3.5/5- flavorful and not too bad. I didn't think it was spicy though. Hong Kong style milk tea 4/5- good and too sweet, though I could tell it was from a powder mix. The Bad: Hay Hay spicy wontons 1/5- my friend and I both did not like this at all. I found this inedible and rubbery. Roasted duck (dark meat) with white rice, bok choy, and dipping sauce 2/5- duck and sauce were extremely salty. The duck wasn't roasted well so it was still had a huge layer of fat, skin wasn't crispy, and my biggest gripe was it wasn't much meat. Also all duck is dark meat so not sure why they make a big deal out of white vs dark meat. I ended up giving my leftovers to a homeless person. I really didn't want any more of the wontons or duck meal. There was only 1-2 other tables of customers when we were here around 6pm on Thursday. The 2 single unisex bathrooms were clean. Not coming back. I will be sticking to Chinatown for my roasted meats.

Hay Hay Roasted is one of the best places to get roast meats in Chinatown, and now they've just opened a new sit-down location in East Village. In addition to their traditional roast meats that they've perfected, they now offer new noodle dishes, rice dishes, and a whole load of small plates. My favorite small plates on their menu are the taro duck spring rolls, hay hay spicy wontons, fried mini milk buns, hay hay trio buns, and the flat dumplings. I love every noodle dish here, especially the dan dan braised pork and wonton tossed noodles. One of my absolute favorites to order is their pork knuckles over rice - sooo tender, so good, with eggs cooked to perfection. You really can't go wrong with their whole menu honestly. Love the beautiful decor here, and you can even watch the chefs chop up the roast meats if you opt for a seat at their bar area. The service here from the super friendly staff is also immaculate. 10/10 vibes, I'll definitely be back again and again!

First time trying out HHR and it was phenomenal. The spicy wontons were plump and juicy. The brisket noodle soup was loaded, you almost need some extra noodles. For me the star was the 3 meat combo over rice. Loved the roast duck, char sui and honey pork rib combo and the steamed bok choi was the perfect complement. You will leave there quite satisfied without breaking the bank. Our hostess, Belle, provided excellent service throughout our meal! 2024.01.26
