About Harborview Restaurant & Bar
Located at Street Level Drumm & Four Embarcadero Center, Sacramento St, San Francisco, CA 94111, USA, Harborview Restaurant & Bar falls under the platform category of Chinese Restaurants, providing a wide array of authentic Chinese culinary experiences to local residents and visitors. This establishment appears to be a notable destination for those seeking genuine Asian flavors, particularly highlighting specialties from both Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Based on the available customer reviews, Harborview Restaurant & Bar stands out for its diverse menu and the quality of its dishes. One reviewer expressed delight in finding both Hong Kong and Shanghai style dumplings in one place, specifically praising the Xiao long bao and Siu Mai. The Xiao long bao, a Shanghainese steamed dumpling traditionally filled with broth and meat, was noted for its wonderful taste and the thoughtful presentation of being served with its own "cookie container," likely referring to a steamer basket or similar serving vessel that makes it easy to enjoy. The Siu Mai, a type of traditional Chinese dumpling, also received high marks, reinforcing the restaurant's proficiency in dim sum.
Another highly recommended dish is the Siu Yak, or roasted pork belly. Customers raved about its "ultra crispy" skin and the accompanying sharp mustard, which was said to enhance the overall flavor profile of the dish. The inclusion of beans with pork mince was also described as "absolutely delightful," with the reviewer particularly enjoying the crispness and saltiness of the beans, suggesting this side dish is a standout on its own.
While most dishes received positive feedback, the signature beef was noted as being tender but "too sweet" for one reviewer's personal preference. This indicates that some dishes might lean towards a sweeter flavor profile, which could be a consideration for diners with specific taste preferences. On the other hand, the seafood fried rice was described as being substantial enough to be a "whole meal" and not needing any additional accompaniments, highlighting its generous portion size and flavor.
The ambiance of Harborview Restaurant & Bar is described as large and potentially noisy, but this was also seen as contributing to the overall atmosphere by one reviewer. This suggests a bustling and lively dining environment, which might be appealing to those who enjoy a vibrant setting. The reviewer also regretted not visiting with a larger group to sample more of the extensive menu, indicating a desire to explore the variety of dishes offered.
Overall, the customer experiences suggest that Harborview Restaurant & Bar offers "superb" food and "great and authentic service." One reviewer, who mentioned having eaten similar food in China, found the dishes to be remarkably authentic and expressed a clear intention to return. A party of four who sampled a large variety of dishes reported a total cost of around $110 per couple, including tax and tip, which suggests a mid-to-upper price range for the dining experience.
It is also important to note that the restaurant is mentioned to be "crowded in the evenings." This indicates its popularity and suggests that reservations might be advisable, especially for dinner service, to avoid potential wait times.
In summary, Harborview Restaurant & Bar appears to be a highly regarded Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, particularly known for its authentic Hong Kong and Shanghai style dumplings, crispy pork belly, and flavorful seafood fried rice. While the signature beef might be on the sweeter side, the overall quality of the food and service seems to be excellent. The lively and potentially noisy atmosphere might appeal to some, while others should be prepared for a bustling environment. Given its popularity, especially in the evenings, it is recommended to consider making a reservation. Customer Reviews
Was happy to find both Hong Kong and Shanghai style dumplings in one restaurant. The Xiao long bao and the Siu Mai were wonderful and reminded me why I like Asian flavours. The Xiao long bao came with its own cookie container making it easy to enjoy. The Siu Yak (pork Belly) was wonderful. The skin was ultra crispy. The mustard with it was sharp and added to the wholeness of the dish. The beans with the pork mince were absolutely delightful. The beans were crisp, salty and yum. Could survive on them. The signature beef was tender but too sweet for my liking. The seafood fried rice could be a whole meal and didn’t need anything else with it. The restaurant is large and can be a bit noisy, but that added to the atmosphere. Should have gone with a larger group so that could have sampled more of the menu. Will be back.
In one word, Awesome. superb restaurant, great and authentic service, extremely tasty food, resemble to the food I ate in China. will clearly come back. We were party of four and tasted from large variety. ended up with $110 per couple including tax and tip. Be aware that the restau is crowded in the evenings
Visited this restaurant today for dim sum, and it was a solid experience. The food was delicious, fresh, and flavorful. The service was just okay—nothing exceptional, but it got the job done. The atmosphere was incredibly busy, with a packed restaurant and a lively crowd. A nice bonus was the unexpected $50 voucher for the next visit, which made the experience even better. Overall, a good spot for dim sum, but be prepared for the hustle and bustle!
I am a vegetarian and not much for a strict vegetarian. But my friends had a very nice time and according to them, this is one of the best Chinese restaurants. The restaurant is huge and the service was outstanding. We had to park on one of the parking lots and the restaurant gave us some free parking pass. Food was excellent and I had vegetable fried rice and some desserts.
We dined here a couple of times back in 2021, during the pandemic, and we loved it. We came back at the end of 2024 and had a good time. We definitely remembered the food being tastier, but the service and the atmosphere is great. We loved watching the sunset from the terrace. We LOVE the baked BBQ pork buns. We still dream of going back to eat them.
