About Harbor Bay Village Seafood-Chinese Food-Take Out

Welcome to Harbor Bay Village Seafood-Chinese Food-Take Out, a Chinese restaurant located at 35219-A Newark Blvd in Newark, California. Operating under the platform category of Chinese Restaurant, Harbor Bay Village Seafood aims to provide local users with a diverse menu encompassing seafood and traditional Chinese cuisine, with a focus on both dine-in and take-out services. Situated in Newark, within the broader Bay Area, it seeks to cater to individuals and families looking for a variety of Chinese culinary options.

According to some customer feedback, Harbor Bay Village Seafood offers a positive dim sum experience. One reviewer noted that they provide "good dim sum, with cart service during peak hours." Cart service is a traditional and often enjoyable way to experience dim sum, allowing diners to select dishes directly from passing carts. This suggests that during busier times, customers can expect a more interactive and perhaps quicker way to enjoy a variety of small dishes. The same reviewer also praised the staff as "very friendly, accommodating, and kid friendly," highlighting a welcoming atmosphere for families with young children. They concluded by expressing enjoyment of their dim sum visit and an intention to return, indicating a positive initial experience.

However, a more detailed and concerning review paints a significantly different picture of the service experienced at Harbor Bay Village Seafood. This customer recounted a series of negative interactions, beginning with a delay in having their order taken. They observed one particular service staff member seemingly prioritizing conversations with other customers over attending to their table. After ordering six dishes, only five were initially served. Upon requesting bowls, the service lady reportedly reacted with visible annoyance and spoke rudely to another worker. A subsequent request for water was met with similar unprofessional behavior, as the same staff member allegedly huffed and puffed and asked another worker to fulfill the request, while moments later being observed interacting cheerfully with a neighboring table.

Further issues arose with the arrival of the final dish, a half order of chicken, which did not appear until 35 minutes after the other five plates. By this time, the customers had finished eating and were requesting their check. The same service lady then brought the late chicken and reportedly began to argue with the elderly parents in the party, insisting that the chicken had already been cut and that they had not yet paid, even though the check had been requested and a credit card was ready. The argument continued until another member of the party intervened, pointing out the impracticality of eating the chicken so long after the rest of the meal was finished and the rice was gone.

Following this, the serving staff apparently realized that the delayed chicken dish had been mistakenly served to and consumed by another table, who had already paid. The staff then reportedly debated how to handle the error with the original customers. The rude service lady then allegedly yelled that the original customers didn't want the chicken, to which the customer's father replied that they did want it when they ordered it, but not 35 minutes after finishing the rest of their meal.

Ultimately, the chicken dish was removed from the bill, and the customers paid in cash. However, even the process of receiving change was problematic. After waiting, they had to inquire about their change, and they overheard the cashier stating that there wasn't even enough change to leave a tip. The cashier then allegedly came to their table to point out the amount of change and imply it was too small for a tip, leading to a confrontation with the customer's father, who asserted his right to decide on the tip amount.

This detailed negative review resulted in the customers vowing not to return to Harbor Bay Village Seafood for either dinner or dim sum, despite having been frequent patrons in the past. The reviewer awarded very low ratings: one star for the food (noting that most of it arrived lukewarm or cold), one star for the service due to the rudeness of the service lady and cashier, and two stars for the atmosphere (citing quietness and the availability of a high chair as the only positives).

Considering these contrasting reviews, it is evident that while Harbor Bay Village Seafood may offer good dim sum and a kid-friendly environment according to one account, there are serious concerns regarding the quality and professionalism of the service, as highlighted by another customer's experience. Issues such as slow order taking, rude behavior from staff, significant delays in food service, incorrect order delivery to other tables, arguments with customers, and unprofessional handling of payment and change are all red flags that potential customers should be aware of.

Information regarding the environment of Harbor Bay Village Seafood is limited. One review mentions a quiet atmosphere, which could be seen as either a positive or a negative depending on individual preferences. The presence of a high chair indicates some accommodation for families with young children. However, without further details, it is difficult to provide a comprehensive description of the restaurant's ambiance and decor.

In terms of services, Harbor Bay Village Seafood offers dine-in and take-out options, as indicated by its name. The availability of cart service for dim sum during peak hours is a notable feature. Phone orders can likely be placed using the provided numbers ((510) 793-1388 and +1 510-793-1388). However, the starkly negative service experience detailed in one review raises significant concerns about the overall quality and reliability of the service provided.

Features of Harbor Bay Village Seafood include its offering of both seafood and Chinese cuisine, with a specific mention of dim sum and cart service. Its potential kid-friendly environment, as noted by one reviewer, could be a draw for families. However, these potential positives are heavily overshadowed by the serious allegations of rude and unprofessional service, as well as issues with food quality and order accuracy.

There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any specials or discounts should contact the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, Harbor Bay Village Seafood-Chinese Food-Take Out in Newark presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While it may offer good dim sum with cart service and a welcoming environment for children, significant concerns have been raised regarding slow and rude service, as well as issues with order accuracy and billing. Potential customers should weigh these contrasting experiences when considering dining at or ordering from this establishment. It is advisable to consider recent feedback carefully and perhaps seek more up-to-date reviews before making a decision.

Harbor Bay offers good dim sum, with cart service during peak hours. The staff are very friendly, accommodating, and kid friendly. We enjoyed our little dim sum stop today and will come back.

After we were sat, it took a while for someone to take our order. It seemed that one particular service lady would rather gossip with customers instead of take our order. We ordered 6 dishes and 5 of them came out. As the lady was placing the food on our table, we asked for a few bowls. Instead of acknowledging us, she looked very disgruntled as if we were disturbing her and yelled at another worker for bowls. The other worker said "bowls" which she then proceeded to say, "I didn't ask, they asked for bowls". Then I attempted to ask for a glass of water, and again, she was huffing and puffing to get another worker to do it for her. But seconds later, she was at the table next to us, smiling and laughing with all the gossip from other guests. Our 1/2 order of chicken still didn't come out as we were eating, and we figured it was just a little late. We finished eating, trying not to ask for any other service because the lady was very rude, and we asked for the check. The rude service lady then brought out our 1/2 chicken. It was 35 minutes after all the other 5 plates of food came out. We told the lady we were done eating and she began to argue with my elderly parents saying "we already cut the chicken", followed by "you haven't paid yet" even though we asked for the check and the credit card was already in our hands. She wouldn't stop arguing so I had to interject and tell her that, what are we going to eat the chicken with, all the rice is gone and you came over 30 minutes late with the food. She had nothing to say back to me. The servers got together and realized that the lady that was gossiping, and angry, placed the chicken dish at a different table where those guests ate the chicken. They said that the other table had "already paid and ate all the meat off the bones of the chicken". So that means the other table got a free plate of chicken, and they were debating on what they would do with us. The rude server lady then yelled "they don't want it", and my dad had to say, "no if we didn't want it we wouldn't have ordered it. We don't want it 35 mins after we have started our meal and finished it." Ultimately they took off the chicken plate from our check and we paid in cash. As we were waiting for our change, it never came! We had to ask if there was change coming, and one of the servers went to ask the cashier "where is the change" and you can hear the cashier say "what change, there isn't even enough for a tip" Absolutely ridiculous! Now, I'm always for tipping at restaurants, but after having rude customer service for bowls and a water, having the same lady argue and yell at my elderly parents, and the cashier not giving back change; I did not leave a tip at all. Especially after the cashier rudely came to the table to say "hey it was 9 dollars change right? it's not even enough for a tip" where my father proceeded to say "it's my right to leave whatever tip I want to leave and that's not your decision" Needless to say, we won't be back for dinner or dimsum. We used to go there often for dimsum, but we won't return. 1 star for the food, most of it came our warm or cold. 1 star for the service, because the service lady and cashier were rude. 2 star for atmosphere because it was quiet (probably because others have been chased away from the terrible service) and also because they had a high chair for my 9 month old. DO NOT COME HERE. TERRIBLE

4/21/2024 Every time when my daughter came home from school, she must go to this restaurant for dimsum, to her it’s much better than any restaurant in NY. The food here has been always excellent, and the prices are quite reasonable. Our favorite dishes are chicken feet, beef tripes, meatballs, xiu mai, beef rice crepes, taro crispy cake, tofu wraps. All the dishes seasoning and cooked just right and tasty. The service is quick and attentive as always. Now the service charge of 15% is added automatically, so no need to add more. 5/17/2023 This place has been renamed a few time. This is our favorite dimsum restaurant since forever. The kids love this place and we come here on the weekends for special occasions or just to eat out. We came back here on mother’s day, the place was packed, we had to wait for a while, but the food is worth the wait. The service has always been quick and attentive. The food carts come just in time for us to satisfy our hunger. The food is hot and tasty as always. There are plenty of parking spaces front and back. The prices are competitive although getting more expensive than before, but what hasn’t? Actually we come here at least once a month whenever we feel like dimsum. We love the chicken feet, the kids love xiu mai, shrimp dumplings, tripes, meat balls, tofu wraps, rice pancakes. We do spend money here LOL. Update 2/4/2023 This place is where my family wants to have dimsum, it’s been a while since we’ve been here. The owner had been changed as I heard but the food is still excellent and the prices are not bad. The important thing is the food is tasty and the service is great. We’re hungry at lunch and the carts came out quickly, my kids had all the dishes they craved for and I had my chicken feet, I’m happy. Not sure why the ratings is low. For us, good food, good price, good service, clean restaurant, we’re happy and this one to us, has it all. Although the parking lot is big but sometimes we have to go around the back to park. This used to be Saigon Harbor seafood restaurant that we used to come for dimsum in Newark. The kids wanted to eat dimsum again. Since the COVID rules had been relaxed, we came to have sitting dimsum. My wife was skeptical about the name changed, she was afraid that the food wasn’t as good as before. We’re surprised that the foods were better than before. The service was great as ever and we noticed most of the people were the same. All the food were tasty and the portions were big, although the prices are higher due to inflation. We came in late and the waiter wrote down all the dishes that we wanted and they came out quite quickly. The service was actually better than before the name changed. Yes, we will be coming back here for dimsum whenever we have the urge for it.

I am Dasher. I have been to this restaurant twice to order but the staff made fun of me (with their small brains) and took me for an idiot. Even though the address was correct, they told me no, it wasn't here. My rating is constantly dropping because of them. So what I will say is that they do not value the customer and they also make them suffer. even one star is too much…

Service was a little bit slow and they got the order wrong (order egg puff and they ordered egg tart). Fried rice took some time to come out. The food, when it did come out , was delicious. Ordered shu mai, bbq pork bun, egg custard bun (which I have not been able to find a proper place that does this correctly, but this place does it perfectly!), salted fish fried rice and shrimp balls. The food was seriously perfection. I have a picky teenager and she just really enjoyed everything that was prepared. The service, tho slo, was very friendly. Dim sum every day until 3!
