About Happy Dragon Restaurant
Happy Dragon Restaurant, situated at 40955 Merchants Ln # 4 in Leonardtown, MD 20650, USA, is a Chinese restaurant serving the local community. As a dining establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Happy Dragon aims to provide a range of Asian cuisine options. However, recent customer reviews present a starkly contrasting set of experiences, which potential diners may find crucial in making their decision.
One particularly detailed review recounts a deeply negative experience during a birthday dinner. The reviewer cited issues across several aspects of their visit, including the food, service, and atmosphere. Regarding the ambiance, the reviewer noted the absence of music, which they mentioned used to be present, and expressed concern about the well-being of the fish in a tank, suggesting they appeared unfed and barely alive, detracting rather than adding to the environment. The reviewer also felt that the cost of nearly $100 for four dishes, including a small soup, did not meet their expectations in terms of value.
A significant and alarming issue raised in this review was related to a severe seafood allergy. Despite explicitly informing the server about the allergy and confirming that the vegetable spring rolls did not contain shrimp (which was also stated on the menu), the reviewer discovered a baby shrimp inside the second spring roll they consumed. The reviewer was fortunate not to have had an immediate reaction, possibly due to the shrimp being "fake." This incident highlights a potentially critical failure in food handling and communication regarding allergens, which could have severe consequences for customers with allergies.
Further criticisms of the food included the wonton soup, which was described as tasting like "fish water," and the dumplings, which were deemed "okay, not great." These comments suggest inconsistencies in the quality and preparation of different menu items.
The service also came under scrutiny in this detailed review. The reviewer described an instance where drink refills were handled inefficiently, with the server taking away empty cups instead of bringing new ones or a pitcher. A later incident involved a different server who allegedly handed back a refilled drink with an "aggressive" "please," creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. The overall impression from this review was one of a "terrible experience" where the party felt "very unwelcome," leading them to decide never to return and to advise others against visiting.
In contrast to this highly negative account, another reviewer shared a more moderate perspective, having eaten at Happy Dragon Restaurant three times. Their initial visit was described as "excellent," while the subsequent two were only "ok." This suggests a potential inconsistency in food quality, possibly due to different chefs or variations in how food is prepared and held. This reviewer did note that the dining area was clean and the service had generally been good, and they indicated a willingness to eat there again. This feedback presents a more balanced view, suggesting that positive experiences are possible, but consistency might be an issue.
Considering these two reviews, there is a clear divergence in customer experiences at Happy Dragon Restaurant. One account details significant problems with food quality, a potentially dangerous mishandling of a food allergy, and poor service leading to a ruined special occasion. The other suggests that while initial experiences might be positive, the quality can fluctuate, though cleanliness and service were generally acceptable in their multiple visits.
Given this information, potential customers should be aware of the reported inconsistencies. While some may have had positive experiences, the serious allegations of allergen mishandling and poor service in another review are significant concerns. It is difficult to ascertain the typical experience at Happy Dragon Restaurant based on these limited and conflicting accounts. Customers with food allergies should exercise extreme caution and ensure thorough communication with the staff regarding ingredients and preparation methods.
Without additional information regarding the restaurant's environment beyond the fish tank and lack of music mentioned in one review, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive description of the ambiance. Similarly, promotional information is not available in the provided text. Therefore, any assessment must be based solely on the provided customer feedback.
In conclusion, Happy Dragon Restaurant in Leonardtown, MD, appears to be an establishment with a history of both positive and significantly negative customer experiences. While one reviewer found their initial visit excellent and subsequent ones acceptable, another detailed a severely disappointing experience marked by poor food quality, a dangerous incident involving a food allergy, and unwelcoming service. Potential diners should consider these contrasting views and exercise caution, particularly those with food allergies. For those wishing to inquire further or place an order, Happy Dragon Restaurant can be contacted at (301) 475-9695 or +1 301-475-9695. Given the strong negative feedback alongside more moderate experiences, it may be prudent to approach this restaurant with caution and perhaps seek more recent reviews to gain a broader understanding of the current customer satisfaction levels.

Customer Reviews
I came here today for my fiancée's daughter's birthday dinner and it was basically ruined by terrible food, terrible service and terrible atmosphere. So, first of all I'm pretty sure they abuse the few fish they have in there. They look like they don't get fed and they're barely alive. It also adds nothing to the ambiance. They used to play music and there was no music at all today or anything to create any sort of ambiance. I dropped almost $100 on 4 dishes one of which was a small soup and expect more for that if I'm being real. A major issue I had though is that I told the server specifically that I am very allergic to seafood so I asked if the spring rolls have any shrimp or anything and she said no, they're vegetable - the menu also said they're vegetable. So I ate them without worry. They weren't very good but whatever I didn't want to make an issue so I just ate them smothered in duck sauce which was okay. I'm almost done with the second spring roll when I just glance at it and realize there's literally a baby shrimp in it. So that was great. Lucky for me they seem to use fake shrimp because I haven't had a reaction yet and it's been at least a half hour since I ate it. After that I tried to have some won ton soup. It tasted like fish water. The dumplings were okay, not great. The server asked at one point if my fiancee and her daughter's friend wanted a refill on their drinks (tea and sprite) and they said yes so she took their cups to go refill them. In my opinion she should have brought either new cups, then removed the empty cups or have brought a pitcher if she didn't want to go back and forth. Then someone else asked for a refill a bit later and a different server took that person's cup, left with it then when she came she handed to her and said "please" aggressively with some type of unwarranted attitude - no idea what she meant or what the issue was, if there was even an issue. We felt very unwelcome. All in all it was a terrible experience. We will be re-doing the dinner for her daughter due to it being such a poor experience. We will never come back here again and will most definitely be letting our friends and family know about what experienced. Good luck, you're gonna need it.
We've eaten there 3 times now, the first was excellent and the next two times just ok. You can tell different chefs cook and hold items in warmers differently. The dining area is clean, the service has been good. We will eat there again.
The best Chinese dinner I’ve had in a very long time. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! I asked for my General Tso Chicken to be extra spicy and my veggie lo mein to be spicy, they did not disappoint. It was so delicious and flavorful. We also indulged in shrimp egg rolls with homemade duck sauce and wonton soup. It was all amazing and I can’t wait to order again very soon.
Food was hot and fresh and service was quick. Also had Egg Drop soup.
Delicious! The spring roles had a very good flavor and the outside was crispy and just yummy. The best beef and broccoli with pork fried rice I have ever had! Quiet atmosphere, excellent service. Top 10 in my opinion.
